I might be ignorant, but is one parent, one language not quite usual in multi-lingual households? I would expect her to read with Fleur in French.The stories about Fleur starting school, in particular how she won’t read with her because she ONLY speaks to her in French really frustrated me. If you’re choosing the English school system as good enough for your child, and your English is good enough to support your child through it (which hers is), then do it and don’t act like you’re above it. She’ll show Fleur that Maman is above reading and the school books aren’t good enough for her, and Fleur will then be the same. As a teacher, that one has got to me!
I do agree, though, that with Manon there’s more than a whiff of superiority.
