I work in book publishing, it’s very rare that an author would be able to make a living off royalties alone. Definitely not an option for her short or medium term.

Interesting that Mamamia is heavily pushing its staff to use AI. People working there must be miserable knowing their jobs are about to be outsourced to an LLM. Good on Clare for being so successful straight away and making a point of saying she won't be using AI to write stories.

side note - Why did Rosie Waterland leave Mamamia?

I think Rosie has spoken about it before (in vague terms, but obvious if you know she worked at a particular women’s media company) and I can’t remember the details but I also remember when the Roxane Gay ick drama happened, she was very vocal in saying that she tried to educate them a lot about people in larger bodies and they were really dismissive of her, so I imagine it was a stack of things and she probably just got sick of Mia being a snobby close minded POS about everything.

I thought it was interesting that they were so celebratory about MMOL turning 10 when all of us OGs remember it started with Rosie on it and she was iconic. I don’t know how long the holy trinity have been hosting together, but it’s definitely not the full 10 years.
