No one is saying that these actions by Hamas are not sick, depraving and disgusting. Everyone acknowledges this. What these “feminists” are saying is that this has been happening to Palestinians for decades and the world barely registers it, including Mia Freedman who seems to think that the death of Palestinian women and children is somehow not important enough to talk about or acknowledge. This is just not true, there are people in Australia walking round who think that what Hamas did is justified and acceptable and are happy to say so. I hate how Jewish people are expected to answer for all the actions of the Israeli government or Palestinians are expected to answer for Hamas. I totally understand what you are saying about Middle East politics (there are other threads for that) and there definitely are people in Australia excusing the violence, albeit a very small group. But what I was referring to was the “feminists” that she is complaining about in her post who she feels are somehow siding with the terrorists. This is absolutely not happening, and having a balanced view of this situation, the death on both sides is not being antisemitic or anti feminist. It is about understanding the long and violent history of this conflict, not forgetting about the thousands of deaths every year, and that whilst horrific, this week is just another week of death in Israel and Palestine. Im not a Mia stan at all, I find her content frequently insufferable and I’m also not Jewish. I honestly would prefer we don’t discuss Israel/Palestine on this thread, not because im trying to tone police anyone or say what they can talk about but because there is so much misinformation, it’s so heated and this is a snark website not middle eastern geopolitics.

Definitely what I am referring to. For years Mia has said nothing of the atrocities that Palestinian women and children face daily. I do think anti-semitism is just there below the surface all over Australia and events like this give people leeway to let it out (see also racisim and the referendum) - but so is islamophobia. It's all horrific.
But Mia's piece that justifiably talks to anti-semitism and horrific Israeli deaths, but fails to even nod to the deaths and horror in Gaza of civilians, is sad.

She is someone who has never suffered discrimination or setback due to her faith actually quite the opposite. But is quick to claim to be a victim and fail to acknowledge her community’s part in systemic oppression. Why don’t you stand with women and children in Gaza, Mia, instead of excusing the 700 and rising child murders by Israel.
