So glad I found this thread! I used to love Madeleine, but she’s become so far removed from what she used to be. As soon as she released the house video, I had a feeling I knew where it was going. She’s just constantly moaning whilst also not acknowledging she’s extremely privileged, it’s just tasteless

she just wants a bigger kitchen and wants to do it all now and is just using being a food blogger as an excuse. I mean she lived in a cottage with a very old - a lot less asthestically pleasing and alot smaller kitchen for years while doing up every other part of the house. So it obviously wasn’t that important then. And the new houses kitchen is already alot bigger and nicer that her previous. If she was honest and said I wanted to do work to it, we were having the new fridge cabinets installed and the fireplace done and thought let’s do it all in one go id respect it. But the insesant “I’m a food blogger it’s necessary” “it’s a requirement if my job” is grating and false. Especially patterned with the whole “live in a place for a while to really find what’s important” “I want to show the realistic common folk reno where not everything is done and perfect straight away” “show a reno online where money isn’t endless and you have to do it slowly” - less than 6 months before you start is not slow nor is it waiting to see what really matters to you - besides actual safety risks electrics, fireplace and maybe windows

P.s. I actually would enjoy it a lot more if she worked with what she had and instead made videos about using what storage you have. How to make the most out of it, what’s essential in a kitchen when you don’t have endless space etc.

I predict a few weeks break (with a few classic influencer ‘please don’t forget about me’ pop ups of course) followed by a big return/relaunch of sorts - new kitchen, new recipes, candid mental health chat etc. With suspiciously low volume of sponsored content (relative, of course) for the next couple of months while she tries to firm up her brand. Then all back to normal for the commercially lucrative December period.

I also predict the recipes will feel a bit different for her, she’ll go for a more grown up angle and she’ll use it as a hook to try to land a cooking book deal.

I just unsubscribed on YT and unfollowed on Instagram, which is sad as I was genuinely really supportive of her but the videos just turned unbearable so quickly.

did you see when she was talking about her “industrial” bed side tables that they were gifted and then she was going to SELL them on her Instagram to one of her followers?

one of the most grim things that influencers do is sell on stuff they got for free. Do you really need the money that bad or could you give them away to someone in need or doesn’t have enough for nice stuff?!
I came here to say this!!
I’m actually baffled at how much she’s selling. I’m all for changing your ‘aesthetic’, but when you’re promoting yourself and built a brand as sustainable and minimalist, it doesn’t exactly sit right.

Honestly as someone from a working class family, her being able to just move back to her parents is one hell of a privilege. If I wanted to move back in with my mum, I’d have to take a single suitcase and live on her couch. I get that it’s not ideal to move back home as an adult, but ‘scary’? Come on.
I tried watching some of her videos again lately, I used to really enjoy them and found her relaxing, now I find her boring and even less relatable. I’m certainly no minimalist, but I’m nowhere near her level of consumer, it’s baffling that she’s not changed her branding yet.

That bullshit justification spiel about how she felt it was ok to promote that MiracleGro fertiliser really ticked me off. What a disgusting liar she is. I don't believe for a second that she did any research about the company and their ethics. A 30 second internet search provides plenty of information on how shitty that company is. It truly is just all about the money.

Any day now I am expecting her to do a u-turn on the hating gardening thing and trying to rebrand herself as a 'homesteading' channel, because that's what all the cool youtuber kids are doing these days . From there the exit from veganism will start with "just a few chickens" because it always starts with chickens and eggs. Or eggs and chickens. Next thing you know it will be lovely bacon from their own lovely pigs, and lovely roast lamb from the lovely farmer next door, and lovely milk and cheese from the lovely farm shop down the lane. Alex will probably be relieved he no longer has to snarf down sausage rolls and burgers in secret whenever he goes somewhere without Madeleine. :ROFLMAO:

I might be wrong but early on she said something about people wanting to know what was happening and he said “it’s none of their business” which I thought was a bit ungracious because sharing their lives with viewers is paying for this next house. But I kind of like Alex.
I love Maddie - she has changed so much though. I couldn’t believe my eyes when she did an ad for the bloody Function of Beauty shampoo and conditioner. She used to make her own shampoo but I guess that doesn’t pay the mortgage.

Nothing wrong with a simple beautiful dress. Loved ones and a nice meal. That's sustainability and minimalist. I think Maddie is forgetting what she stands for. Shame

I agree, that they have just become utterly tone deaf to what is going on in the world for many at the moment. They are coming across as a couple of over privileged brats and it's sad because I used to find them so down to earth and likeable despite both coming from wealthy families. They were probably my favourite youtubers when they were staying in her parents cottage and then in Brighton.
Maddie posts a lot of things like that quote above and it's just tiring. I always noticed that she didn't take any kind of criticism well, but she seems to have become far worse. I feel like she's incredibly dismissive of her viewers and it isn't nice to witness. It was mentioned before that she has a victim mentality and I'm certainly seeing that a lot at the moment. Random, but I also find her to have become quite vain as well. 😄
I also agree that she's missed a huge opportunity with her garden. Other youtubers I watch that live a minimalist/sustainable lifestyle have taken time to show videos of them learning how to plant and grow seeds for fruit and vegetables and how they've learnt from their successes and failures. Maybe she just isn't interested in gardening which is fine, but like I said it would have at least made for some different content.

Absolutely not to start any arguments here, but to play the annoying devils advocate it can be argued that a vegan diet itself is disordered. She has made it clear through multiple videos that she started veganism because it was ‘healthy’ and as way to keep restricting her diet. In my own personal life I know multiple vegans who started their journey in this way, first it was no chocolate then spiralling into the disordered eating they have now (obviously this is not all vegans).

She does seem to eat a varied diet, but also does still seem somewhat restrictive to me. Like for eg eating so many mushrooms when they’re known for being very low in calories, and she doesn’t accompany them with any fat like avocado
Veganism isn't disordered eating, but people with eating disorders do use the diet to help mask their eating disorders, me included. I went vegan but still wore leather 🤡 it was about a decade before I was well enough to acknowledge that it was all a ruse. I'm pescatarian now.

Not saying this is what Mads is doing, but it's not uncommon.

I feel like I'm a horrible person for even commenting on this, but what she said in her new video shocked me a little. Maybe I misunderstood?

Maddie was complaining that they would have to save up for "one or two months" to do projects on their house, and that it was really annoying. Did I understand that correctly? I think I must live on a different planet...
I picked up on this too! It did seem like she was saying it was inconvenient they might have to wait a month to afford to continue with a big project if they didn't budget properly. Which must be a lovely problem to have.

Each video feels like it's a vlog of Maddie wandering around talking about beams and changes that need to be made to the house before wandering through the garden pointing at things, showing a closeup of the dog, laughing at herself randomly and then showing a new Seasalt dress.

I think I'm going to stop watching and maybe revisit in a few months. At the minute I don't want to give her channel the views, especially with the something exciting happening at work and maybe I'll tell you one day, but of course I'll put it in my title as clickbait. No thanks.

I also noticed this comment. If people are calling you out it doesn't automatically mean they're obsessed with you  just like how people calling you out aren't doing so because of your success.

She's deleted the comment now, but not before replying 'get back under your bridge, troll'. Truth hurts, I guess 🙄

I didn’t make it to the end of the latest video, what has happened to her. The moaning, the frumpiness, she’s turned into some idealised version of a 1950’s farmers wife. That Saltrock dress looked terrible, far too high on the neck for her. I actually like Alex, he has a dry sense of humour, he must be very patient to put up with her, she’s lost that bouncy girlie charm she once had and now resembles a menopausal middle aged women.

I just want to say I messaged her a while back, a polite message, just letting her know that it’s the law in England for your dog to have a collar and a tag when out walking (I had seen a lot of stories where Roxie only had a harness on). She gave me such a snotty response, something along the lines of, I doubt anyone is going to pull me up when I walk her in the countryside where we hardly see anyone else. I was literally just telling her the law as she was clearly new to owning a dog at the time!!

I think people are starting to see through influencer bullshit. It's all just ads for the same stuff. How can you trust their opinion on anything? I don't anymore.

I also unfollowed a lot that have shown what utter bellends they are during covid.

It kills me that with some basic googling you can find out her house was built in the very late 1890s maybe as early as 1900 so not Georgian at all. And she seems to have replaced the word house with “Georgian house”... it’s so cringe I’m not sure what she’s trying achieve. No one really cares
