Madeleine McCann #8

Im sure my posts here show i have not an ounce of liking for these two entitled arrogant and negligent parents.

But in this case I feel sorry for Sean, hes excellent at his sport and it must be already a huge burden to carry being constantly Madeleines brother. And no matter what story his parents have told him, it must go through his mind that he and his sister were literal babies and if there was an abduction it could as easily have been them. There could have been a fire, they could have fallen and cracked their heads and a gazillion other accidents.

All that said I wish him and his sister well. Lots of young people want to be on social media and it would be a shame that babies pay the price for what their selfish parents did.

Where I would draw the line is if they start to use it as a USP.

I feel for them too, it must be the weirdest thing ever growing up with the history Madeleine's loss has brought them.

Whatever they do they will be judged by some, which is unfair.

I'll never have many kind words for Kate and Gerry but the twins can't help any of the controversy that surrounds the McCann name, the media should leave them out of it. They have a right to their lives.

Absolutely, their weird parents are not their fault. Plus they must question the whole story which is an awful thing to deal with as a young person. Even if they believe the parents, I imagine they’ve done a lot of thinking on it. I wish them well in life.

Another article

The parents attention seeking and soft launching the daughter in this too. Doesn't sit well with me
They both seem to love publicity and relish the limelight. Right from the start, when Madeleine’s disappearance was reported, they’ve lapped up the attention. It’s sickening.

I hope the twins have a strong support network around them, other than their parents.

See for yourself:

As a recovered alcoholic and addict I recognise a troubled mind when I see it. Well actually, my experiences of poor mental health are irrelevant. Anyone with eyes can see for themselves how Gerry McCann is doing.
I'm not surprised the comments are turned off.

Quoting myself to say the woman was "behaving suspiciously in the early hours of 7th May".
I take it all with a pinch of salt. It's the anniversary coming so perfect time to wheel out new suspects and top up the fund.
BIB

Yep. They have had many millions from the public to "search for Madeleine". Meanwhile, many other children have gone missing, many frantic families are searching, and as far as I am aware not a penny has been offered to look for lost/ abducted children who have a much better chance of being found than a child - now a young woman if she is still alive - who disappeared nearly 20 years ago,

I'm afraid this sticks in my craw.

At least those mad people used a listening service, unlike the McCanns.
Even worse, the McCanns lied about how often the children were being checked. Which made establishing a timeline difficult. Key to finding a missing child.
There was also an implication that the group of adults were having their meal only a few yards from where the children had been left - tiny, alone and vulnerable - practically like being in their own garden - while in reality there was quite a trek back to the complex.

Even if there wasn't a risk of abduction - children can wake up and be alone and terrified; they can be sick and choke; they can have accidents and be badly injured or die. I was born in the 1950's and it was NOT common for children to be left alone.

I don’t think their story has ever added up. It was rumoured that the adults took it in turns to babysit each night and all the kids stayed in that adults apartment. Who knows. One thing is for sure the parents certainly got caught up and giddy in the attention, and money, that came in the aftermath.

Around the time. The McCann case is what shifted social norms around leaving your children, imo. ‘We did it then but we wouldn’t do it now’ attitude, so the McCanns were supposedly acting within social norms at the time.
Huh? It's never been a "social norm" on any planet I've been on to leave a toddler and infants at home and bugger off out to dinner for the night.

I agree. I was referring to how the McCanns originally framed the situation - ‘dining in your own garden’ etc. It took a long time to establish exactly how badly those children were being neglected and how little Kate and Gerry cared about their wellbeing and welfare.
I believe that the social norm now is that parents are far more cautious than ever, and the McCann case played a part in changing that.

They actually said they were dining in the equivalent of their own garden?! Weren’t they across a road and in a separate part of the hotel complex?

Yes. The lies were many and blatant and they got them out early so it dominated the narrative in the mainstream media for a long time.
There is an early interview with Kate where she says it was a max 30 second walk away. And they felt guilty but only for a few days. I don’t believe either of them have a conscience.

They weren't even the youngest, iirc the O'Briens youngest daughter was only one and had been vomiting the same day. (Interesting as could tie into the rumours about the kids being medicated as a reason for the whole groups arrogance.)
I think thats why people are suspicious of them all, it seems almost purposefully stupid for anyone, let alone doctors, when you have evening babysitters available at the resort and all of you have children. Why not hire a nanny for the holiday, if not using the resort staff? They had nannies at home. Makes you wonder if they're either in a state they didn't want strangers/employees to see, or whether they all burned through staff fairly regularly.
I think the Paynes had a baby monitor and had brought the kids grandma along, but it seems like any of the adults missing any of the nights out was unthinkable, and it does make you wonder why, when all they're doing is allegedly having tapas and a few wines.

How the hell can this woman live with herself? What a selfish witch.

Just another thought. Wasn't the door left unlocked? If Madeleine had woken previous nights crying how were they so blatant as to go out again? Why were they so sure she wouldnt wake up? She was nearly 4 so if she was able to open the door she possibly would have went looking for her parents.

In which case there was a great big pool she could have fallen into, in addition to accidents in the apartment

But they still did it...one wonders why the twins slept through all the furore, ok babies can, but didnt wake for hours and Kate checked them.

Medicated has been discussed before and their hair was never checked. So which was it?

Were they stupid niave and selfish or were they slyly medicating them?

Either scenario makes them horrors

It’s even worse when you consider Madeleine had “stay in my bed at night time” on her reward chart at home, so it must have been a challenge for her. And they left them all in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country anyway.

It took a good few days for Gerry and Kate to even admit they had left the apartment unlocked, only once their ‘jemmied window’ narrative had been ruled out. All creating a lot of confusion.

And the upstairs neighbour, Pamela Fenn, reported hearing a distressed child crying from their apartment for over an hour the night of 1st May. She remembered because it kept her up and she even called her friend and mentioned it that night and the friend confirmed, so it checks out.

So we know Kate and Gerry cared more about an evening of wine and tapas with people they only loosely knew, more than they cared for their kids safety. And they barefaced lied about checks every 20 minutes.

I don’t know why they bothered bringing the kids on holiday. They were in kids club all day and then left to sleep all on their own whilst their parents went out for the evening.
My eldest isroughly the same age as Madeleine and i was horrified at the time. It wasn’t normal then.

What makes them continually seek publicity? Is it out of guilt? God forbid but if my little girl disappeared on holiday, partly due to my negligence, I would grieve in private and not keep reminding people what a tit parent I had been.

To then use people’s kindly donated funds to pursue those brave enough to voice their opinion along the lines as above is an utter disgrace they are a despicable pair imo sue me if you like!

That's the saddest thing. I don't have children, but when I've been on holidays to resorts in Spain and Portugal, they have always had very family friendly places. It's so common for kids to be eating out with their families of an evening, and it's not unusual to see them asleep in buggies/pushchairs or having a little dance/play around even when the adults are enjoying a drink or two afterwards.
