Just thinking of LL’s photos in the press…I feel sorry for the parents of the baby LL is holding in one of them. I know the baby’s face is blurred out but I’m sure the parents would know it’s their baby…must be very difficult to see 😢.

I’ve not read it yet

Because so far- whether we like it or not, two weeks in to a 6 month trial we’ve not seen any firm evidence she did it. She’s not admitted to anything. Whereas this doctor has? The firm evidence against her will come later presumably, and then so will all the anger and rage towards her.

But opposite to that, what has happened today is someone has admitted to being incompetent? And failing to do their job properly? So yes, actually I will be angry at him. And I’ll be angry about the accused when/if she’s found guilty.
She literally wrote a note saying ‘I killed them on purpose because i am not good enough to care for them’ ‘I am evil I did this’. That’s far more damning than a doctor saying he should have done more when he had suspicions.

Lucy was on shift for every single one of these 17 babies that collapsed, and 7 of them died. Do you not feel any anger that at best she was also incompetent and didn’t do enough for them?

I sort of what to know but don’t want to know what sort of force is required to inject a significant amount of air into the blood stream 🙁

I wondering if she spent the holiday in Ibiza jonesing for a hit. Be telling what she googled or text in that time.

I also was wondering if her parents are there supporting her regardless. Like in we need to talk about Kevin.
I know it’s going to sound daft, but if she did this, I can’t fathom how she could do normal, everyday things like go on holiday to Ibiza, buy a house, go clubbing with her friends and then go to work and kill babies. It’s like how can you just disassociate so much and carry on like everything is normal?

Yes, I know there's 3 experts...an finite number of medical experts. I know, I said that.

Its not what you or I trust. The jury isn't working on balance of probability. Expert evidence can only be in light of other evidence, which we have also not seen yet.
So the fact that they have said 'unusual' doesn't not mean 100%. And the jury need to be 100% certain.

To be honest, I really thought my original comment was a fair thing to say. I didn't criticise anyone or claim her guilt/innocence...just a simple, 'the unusual symptom evidence is a grey area'.
The legal standard for the jury is ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ not 100% certain. I do understand what you are saying about unusual doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened elsewhere and mean something other than air embolus, but in the absence of any other medical expert evidence (appreciate this might come with the defence) then the jury are within their right to accept the prosecutions finite number of experts as true, beyond reasonable doubt.

I'm finding Professor Arthur's testimony so far to be quite interesting. Looking at his profile on GOSH's website it seems that he would know his stuff. Must be difficult for non-medics, including lawyers etc, to fully grasp and understand the situation a lot of the time. I think all the medics so far have provided interesting testimony. Inclined to believe them on the medical side of things than lawyers, anyhow.

It said he and senior colleagues raised concerns to hospital managers and that he wished he had been more courageous - that indicates it ended there when they brushed it off.

He not only had power to raise it further, he had a duty to raise it further. They at the very least, suspected that she wasn’t performing well and may be implicated in babies deteriorating some how. View attachment 1675141
Looks like he’s not the only one to be angry at then. But very, very damning for Lucy that multiple colleagues had suspicions about her. Especially if we don’t see her raise any concerns herself. And very damning that the hospital bosses ignored the concerns people were raising.

"He said such a finding is not found in cases of 'natual causes' death in babies."
"or "very occasionally" outside of hospital in 'sudden unexpected death in infants'."

This is confusing me, could be the reporting though.
Exactly. Only one other time he has seen it and it’s in this case. To me the other stuff sounds like he’s scrutinising the research this is based on. Saying that his judgment it has to be administered with force or huge amount of overwhelming sepsis is wrong because it’s not based on premature babies. To me that just goes to show that it’s extremely unlikely to happen to prem babies and considering they’re almost always hooked up to the sort of equipment that could potentially cause it then I think he should have seen more of it? Again feel like I’m never making any sense!

For anyone interested, I think this doc goes into greater detail. Also how hard it was to investigate and prove for police. Exactly like this case, BA presence alone couldn’t convict her. The medical evidence of foul play (poisoning and air), the suspicious nature of the high frequency, sudden and unexpected collapses and the recovery once out of BA care (eg their problems were not pervasive medical conditions and they had to have been sabotaged), her behaviour and response to questions combined with her presence for every unexplained event formed the picture. She also was released and rearrested again this was due to how difficult and time consuming it was to gather evidence.

The way I've read it is that the defence are claiming the long line may have caused an air embolism, which is a rare complication and would look the same as an intentional administration. So in the defences argument it doesn't matter that the long line is common and they've never seen it, as its a very rare complication.
The expert said the amount of air he seen at the spine was very unusual and would have to be introduced with force so is not indicative of longline placement errors.

I think we should just submit random fb posts by (anonymous) people as evidence in court.
I know, I’ll find somewhere to post anonymously, oh like here, and write the complete opposite and present it to the prosecution. That would be the case sealed then.
Yes, I am being a sarcastic c**t. 🙄
But it is an anonymous forum where people discuss stuff, think you might be taking it all a bit seriously to be honest. Surely people don't just have to discuss things present as evidence in court, the post isn't exactly claiming anything wild is it, whether its true or false doesn't really matter.

Agreed. We don’t know at this point, probably due to how vague the reporting is what he raised or even massively why just that he obviously had concerns about Letby’s involvement. Just that he did. I can think that he really should have pushed it (he obviously knows this) and feel incredibly sorry for him at the same time.
I agree, I’m very angry with him that he didn’t do more, but at least he did try - it was the senior management who didn’t take action and they need to be held accountable for this. It must be a terrible thing to live with and sounds like he’s trying to do the right thing now, even though it’s very late in the day!

There’s 3 sets of twins and a set of triplets that relate to this trial and it’s puzzled me since the start.
I’m sure it can’t be coincidence that they all had issues within 24 hours of there respective sibling.

I’m wondering if the fact that twins/triplets would obviously stretch resources more than when a just a single baby came into the ward could be a significant factor to these deaths in an already struggling ward?

There’s definitely a noticeable spike in issues each time twins/the triplets are on the ward. It seems issues are very isolated when twins/triplets aren’t involved

On June 8th We see the first twins death seems be the beginning of several crashes over a 6 period in which 2 out of 3 babies sadly die as a result

then on august 04 and 05 The second set of twins suffer collapses and one of them sadly dies,

we then see several slightly more isolated incidents and then we get to the third set of twins
on the 9th of April both twins crash but thankfully survive.

And then we see only one more child crash until June 23rd which is the day one of the triplets crashed and sadly died this then begins a 3 day period in which crashes occur with 3 different babies killing 2 of them,

these incidents include 5 of the accused 7 murders to just to clarify that, and there are no other times where different babies suffer crashes on consecutive days. There’s either a twin involved or it’s the same baby who crashed the previous day

now does that strike anyone as odd or am i being too out there?

It would be interesting to know if any other twins were on the ward during this time frame.to see if the “unrelated” crashes/death correlate in any way

i also see that sometimes there are multiple days in a row where crashes occur, my answer to that would be that they only ever seem to concern 1 child at a time and that’s why I’ve described these as more isolated.

And can anyone tell me the collective term for twins/triplets?
This ...!! This is one of my biggest questions....like so many, I am "on that fence" right now....but what are the odds of events like this happening to twin/triplet siblings in a short period of time " like this" I'm a nurse of many years but an adult nurse, so a lot of medical stuff I'm working hard to get my head around....but, as I say, I.keep coming back to what are the odds of this happening in such a way....it baffles me!! As in...with no sinister reason about the occurrences!!

I’m pretty sure sepsis is the result of an untreated infection? I’m absolutely certain you cannot catch sepsis.
It is. It’s your body’s adverse response to an untreated infection. I developed it when I was in labour with my son. I didn’t know what it was until I read my notes afterwards and the obstetrician called me in for an appointment post partum to discuss it. I just remember feeling like I was going to die and my temp and heart rate were through the roof.

It could be as simple as a problem with record keeping so they can’t track exactly who was with baby before hand, doesn’t mean she wasn’t there. When you look at the detail surrounding computer log on times and medical charts that have been signed to place people in different locations, it’s entirely possible that data is missing. If she was just on shift and they can’t place her with the baby due to lack of evidence, I don’t think they would include that in the indictment as it would make the whole case too weak. Doesn’t mean she didn’t do it though.

These cases are more than just ‘being on shift’. And I always have the insulin ones in my mind. I think they will be proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Just an ‘out there’ thought.

She was arrested multiple times, interviewed. She knew what was being alleged.

In that position, if I was guilty, I think I can say with some amount of certainty that I’d kill myself. If you’re guilty, you know they’ll find evidence and you’ll be the most hated person in a prison.

If you’re innocent, and you have some ‘faith’ in the justice system, you might just stick around to try and clear your name.

I do wonder if there's any mileage in the adult nurse not being named because she potentially also has a case to answer and it would jeopardise a fair trial for her at some later date.
A criminal case? I thought we had two staff members anonymous now (I might be wrong). I just assumed it might be a request that was granted or because they may still work at COCH.

I still think it’s so strange how she is being described as showing no emotion and only confirming her name and plea. Even if a serial killer, the lack of even faked empathy is suspicious too
I'm not defending her but is it possible that she's on valium or some other sedative throughout this trial?? I am sincerely asking this btw, is it possible?

I wonder - as this is part of the evidence we haven't heard yet - if there were any other cases outwit BA that she wasn't present for, or were all her cases 'cut and dried' so to speak. I'm still not clear whether LL was present or not for other cases of collapse/deaths - this would change the landscape hugely for me.
Can I ask, why does what Lucy didn’t do mean she is somehow more likely to be innocent for the things she is alleged to have done? The point of the investigation into the charges she is up for is that they are unexplained and have evidence of foul play. I’m not sure why explained events that don’t show foul play or her lack of presence mean she wasn’t capable of the things she’s accused of 🤷🏻‍♀️ Whether there was an explained death, or a death whilst BA wasn’t at Grantham hospital didn’t mean she wasn’t guilty of what she did do and I’m not sure why it would here either. It’s proven LL is there for all of these unexplained events where there is evidence of foul play.
