My blood has just gone cold. Just seen that the mystery lover boy has died. Oliver Rackham also has just died and was in his 50s … could Oliver Rackham - if named in certain parts of the trial, also be the mystery dr? Just seems a bit weird to me that two Drs from the North West in their 50s have both died? He was also unwell, and also moved hospitals - probably around 2020?

Exactly this. I’ve seen a few people on X and elsewhere say “karma”. But the bloke was 53 and has two teenage kids and a wife that has already been through hell. Empathy seems to be sadly lacking in many people these days.

I felt sad for him and his family from the beginning. Yes, he made terrible mistakes but I don't think he had bad intentions. His wife must be so strong for her family. I hope Letby has been shocked though by the news.

Jesus that's awful! Are these truthers who think he "betrayed" Letby? I hope they're not from the pro-guilt side as know he wasn't popular but those comments are way too far.

Where is the evidence for this? I don't think this is true, surely not.

Dr Bohin told Liz and Caroline that she had written the reports a long time ago - while the CPS were considering charges what she called the "Juggernaut" took over and she decided to bow out - she would not have been prepared to give evidence in court.

I can't really see it happening. Women's prisons aren't nearly as violent as Bad Girls and Wentworth would have us believe. More often the child killers seem to run the wings, like Myra Hindley and Rose West.

If it's a fact that the reason charges were not brought was because of Dr Bohins refusal to appear at court because of the abuse she has recieved, then some serious questions should be asked. Mark Mcdonald, specifically turned up at Guernsey and started making allegations against Dr Bohin.

Yes and he took Sarah Knapton with him so she could smear Dr Bohin in a national newspaper. The conduct is despicable but would fall short of the standard for witness intimidation. Although looking at the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 one does wonder

Take comfort from the fact that this behaviour is not going to be rewarded in any meaningful way.

I listened to the podcast with Liz and caroline talking to Sandie Bohin and she said she provided the expert reports on these additional cases but she wouldn’t give evidence because of all the harrassment she’s received from Letby’s supporters. I wonder if that’s enough to say the evidence threshold has not been met? Her response made me think they can’t compel her to give evidence. It was quite an adamant no.

Certainly without the chief medical expert the prosecution was dead in the water

The part that isn’t “good” is people “figuring it out” and posting clues and coming very close to committing a criminal offence. The court order has been lifted and so there is absolutely no issue with newspapers reporting it. The original purpose of the order was nothing to do with his wife and children, it was (like many other medical witnesses) to encourage them to give evidence without damage to their professional reputations.

Interestingly Professor Crane said some of the injuries could have come from resuscitation and other causes not deliberate. Seems the jury did not believe this. Sounds familiar.

Any appeal for the convictions regarding Preston, unless it's some kind of technicality such as judge direction, would need to be that they discovered Preston had some kind of medical condition, unknown to the trial, which explained the death and injuries. Same for Letby - except that there are 13 babies who need previously unknown conditions.

But the sink overflowed!!! And that killed them all!!!
