Well to play devils advocate, presumably there were dozens of newborn babies that she looked after that were absolutely fine.
Sorry, what?

The vast majority of babies, even premature ones are fine. The survival rate for those up to 32 weeks and born at over 1kg is 90%.

If she was murdering every baby she came into contact with she'd have been caught and arrested within days.

Just chipping in to say I'm thrilled to hear about the arrests. Hoping that it will lead to further action (not holding my breath just yet) but it will at least have put the wind up certain individuals. They may have known it was coming but now it's landed, here's hoping the investigating authorities have good, solid grounds for charges- nobody could argue that the process has been rushed. Those doctors who spoke up under threat of losing their livelihood need vindication.

I think Myers saw the evidence , realised she was guilty and made sure she had a good defence so she couldn’t find a way to appeal. I know people disparage defence lawyers but sometimes they make sure justice is served by making sure all the loose ends are tied up and can’t be exploited

Looking at more comments, I think the issue is that many supporters have read just the headlines (shocker, I know ) and have jumped to the conclusion that this is a new development based on new evidence.

Random examples.

Good grief.
I cancelled my Private Eye subscription recently because of Hammond's continued idiocy over this.

Why would Cheshire Police want to email Hitchens about their plans to arrest anyone?
He's got a very high opinion of himself. If it was anyone else his behaviour towards the police would be characterised as vexatious. It's good to hear they ignore much of his harassment.

Since I very reluctantly took up the case of Lucy Letby on September 24, 2023
A real whiff of grandeur here. Seems to think his great mind was needed at a time of crisis. Thank you Peter what would everyone have done without you?

The last twist of evidence is a psychologist saying in a Daily mail article that writing " I killed the babies on purpose " and " I am evil, I did this" are statements pointing to innocence! The prosecution case caused them to be misconstrued by the jury! Surely the prosecution just needed to show them they are not difficult to understand.
Oh FFS. Is there anything that won't be twisted to make out she's innocent?! Imagine an ugly middle-aged bloke having stuff like that written down in his house whilst being the only suspect in deaths and attacks.

As for that Nadine Dorries article..."lost sight of the young woman at the centre of this fierce debate?!" Are you freaking kidding me? All I hear about is poor Lucy stuck in prison when she could be innocent and fantasies about her coming out but poor Lucy will "always have to look over her shoulder it's so unfair" they have lost sight of the victims and their families not that monster! As for "I've yet to meet Lucy, although I hope to one day soon" as if she's some starstruck fan of a celeb? I can't even, all the gushing. Over a BABY KILLER. Stop the world I want to get off.

Just one thing stands out for me and that’s the Mum who walked in and saw her babies mouth covered in blood, and when she asked Letby what the hell was happening she said “trust me I’m a nurse”

That’s all you need to know really, there is no way, just from that scenario and comment that she is innocent in any way shape or form.

Let alone all the other situations that were described in detail in the very thorough court case.
Yup absolutely no chance whatsoever. They tie themselves in knots over this with all sorts of BS. The mother got it wrong, the mother went with the police version of events, the mother wanted someone to blame. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, the phone records are 1 hour wrong.

It's such rubbish. The mother stated in her thirlwall statement that SHE KNEW LETBY WAS LYING when she was giving testimony.

What more is there to say. This mother is not wrong. She was so confident in her version of events that she helped to produce a police sketch showing the exact area of blood on her babies mouth. Blood which the mother says Letby told her came from NG tube irritation. Letby 100% denied saying this, and also said she would NEVER ask a parent to leave, which is again complete lies because the mother says Letby told her to leave.

How anyone can excuse and defend this behaviour. It's just astounding.

And right on cue, as I suspected, the death of Lucia De Berk is being used as a tactic to imply Letby is a MOJ.
When people invoke Lucia de Berk to try and suggest Letby might be in the same shoes, it makes me wonder if they've read anything at all about de Berk's case. The two are light years apart.

De Berk was convicted of poisoning one baby because his blood contained abnormally high levels of digoxin and de Berk happened to be working l on the day he died. She also had a key to the drugs cupboard. After her conviction, a doctor who reviewed the baby's notes discovered that he had been prescribed an abnormally high dose of the drug by his own doctor, and the explicit medical instructions were to give him extra doses if he seemed unsettled. De Berk had followed the prescription. She hadn't set out to do anything else. Other convictions hinged on very poor quality statistics provided by someone whose highest stats qualification was an undergrad degree, so hardly expert standard.

If Letby had given surplus insulin to a baby who had actually been prescribed it, at an abnormal dose written on the prescription, then this conversation would be very different. But she didn't. And none of her convictions are based on stats, let alone the statistical reasoning of someone whose highest qualification is a BSc.

It's also worth noting that Richard Gill overinflates his contribution to de Berk's exoneration. The flaws in the prosecution's case were initially identified by Dr Metta de Noo when she examined the relevant medical records, assisted by her brother, a university professor. Her brother wasn't a statistician by training and he wanted to get some professional statisticians in to check that his numbers were correct, but from the way Gill presents himself to the press you'd think he discovered it all by himself.

Is it just me or does Letby look like a completely different person in almost every photo? It's really bizarre.

Elston is really showing his stupidity, firstly thinking that sharing these emails somehow exposes Dewi Evans. Secondly, not understanding the difference between a designated nurse and having sole charge at each incident.

I find Dewi both frustrating and admirable. Sometimes I wish he would just shut up and stop giving these people any time of day. Other times I admire his strength at continuing to speak up and defend his evidence and these babies. He doesn’t actually have any need to do this as I think he’s fully retired now.
