Counsel to the inquiry Nicholas de la Poer KC asked: “Did you think Letby was a scapegoat?”
Ms Millward said: “No, there wasn’t sufficient information for me to make that comment. I generally thought that the unit was being run poorly, that was my view.
“I didn’t think she was necessarily being made a scapegoat. I was waiting for the invited (external) review to say what else is happening here.”
Mr de la Poer went on: “In a discussion with Cheshire Police in 2019 there is a record made by a police officer that you said you felt it was unjust that Letby was being investigated as a person of possible interest given the evidence presented by the consultants. Was that something you said to the police?”
Ms Millward replied: “I don’t believe so, no. Stating something is unjust is not words I would use. I don’t even remember having a conversation around my view of Lucy at all.”

Ok so as an NHS employee I do agree with her about the copying in thing, and it can be really irritating
however I’m a band 4 working in projects, NOT head of risk and patient safety this is basically her admitting she doesn’t read her emails which is the bare minimum of a job in my opinion. Yes sometimes you’re copied into a load of irrelevant nonsense, but this wasn’t irrelevant nor was it nonsense. Why can none of them hold their hands up and say yes I should have read that and done something about it??It happens in my place of work too. Yes it’s annoying but reading & processing emails is a pretty basic part of most people’s jobs now. To say you don’t think you’re obliged to read an email you’re sent when you’re a senior manager on a huge salary in a public sector role is ludicrous! I can't imagine what it must feel like for the families of the babies that came after March 2016, to have someone stand there and say "oh well, I'm jolly well not obliged to read my emails and do my job, I'm not responsible for any deaths at all because I wasn't told!"

Saying you didn't think you had to read your emails when you're responsible for risk and patient safety is bleeping unbelievable. How many more of these managers are the NHS wasting huge salaries on??
To be honest she had one of those non-jobs created to provide high-band posts for nurses - no responsibility for anything. Anyone who has worked in the NHS knows what I am talking about.
