I’ve not been on this thread for a while but have some vague memory of baby K trial scheduled for February gone. Am I right, and why was it not? Does this application to appeal take precedence?
No, it was always set for June. The judge said the appeal should be sorted first.

How has Crime Scene to Court Room (or whatever he is called) managed to get the transcripts from court? Is this a freedom on information thing?

I remember being violently hungover in August last year in Belfast Airport after a two day festival and someone posting about gormless Jan and her space alien looking husband and how every pot has a lid which I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever read in my sorry state. Had tears and odd looks from other airport customers.
OMG I’m pissing myself here, luckily on my own, thanks for resharing “gormless Jan and her space alien looking husband” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

“I killed them on purpose because I am not good enough”

“ I am evil, I did this”

Always a strong piece of evidence for me 🙂
For me - that's the weakest part of the case. Woman on the edge of a breakdown

A fair while back, I ended up on the edge of breakdown because of work related stress. Working for a vol organisation, funding being cut at every turn, long standing staff being made redundant and hours cut. Trying to support staff and make sure the organisation survived.

I felt everything was my fault because I wasn't good enough and ended up in a dark place.

And I wasn't dealing the deaths of small babies and the grief of their parents.

Suppose I'm letting my personal experience cloud my judgement.

I wonder what the outcome of the investigation in her previous work history will uncover. Cos i can't imagine she just suddenly started killing babies one day. She surely must have been "hurting" patients for years before escalating to murder

I might do depending on dates and how consistent they are with sitting each day. Not sure how long they expect this one to take being an isolated case.
Didn't they say 2-3 weeks when they announced it? Might be imagining it and making it up as I go along though

I wonder whether the defence was overly confident that they would be successful in requesting to have Dewi Evan's evidence excluded from the trial? When that didn't happen they tried to discredit him during cross examination but didn't really pull it off and feels like they didn't have a back up plan after that other than Letby herself and the plumber.

The main thing I still struggle with in this case is I never found Lucy to be that odd. She was a bit weird and slightly old fogeyish but compared to the background/behaviour of serial killers usually she's so different. I can't get my head around her being at the races with a big group of friends one day and then murdering babies the next 🤯

If the baby is attached to a ventilator but the chest isn't going up and down, would you not think there's a problem with the ventilator?

Off to the first preliminary hearing of the Thirlwall Inquiry tomorrow. Should be interesting, though I'm not sure how much will be able to publicised due to the current reporting restrictions
have you been to an inquiry before? Any idea what they might cover being the first one?

For starters, she must had killed before she turned up in the baby ICU. I was watching a programme recently which said that FBI profilers say that people don't suddenly start killing in their 30s. Starts well before that.
She wasn't in her 30s, all of her thirties she's been in prison. She went to Chester university, was a student midwife on the unit at the Countess of Chester with a placement at Liverpool women's and then stayed on at Chester after graduation.

Have many tattlers attendee the retrial? Or plan on going when she takes the stand? Our reporters gave such good insights last year!

Would it be an option for them to wait until the retrial in June and then consider her appeal?

as I’m assuming if they uphold her appeal, there is no need for the trial in June as surely they’ll all need to be retried? I’m not familiar with the appeals process though and whether that’s possible…

Let’s say she is granted permission to appeal because these judges agree the judge made some error(s) in law.

Would a full appeal hearing look at those errors and then what - decide if it had an impact on the outcome? Would it be a retrial or just conviction overturned?

Because even if he made any errors, it doesn’t necessarily mean the jury would have come to a different conclusion. Obvs this all depends what it is!!
I just found this…so I think that means the next stage (if the judges agree she’s allowed to appeal) is the court of appeal? And they decide whether to uphold the conviction or go to retrial. Unless I’ve read it wrong!

I’m not sure what the Delphi case is? Did that happen in this country? Probably worth me finding the thread you mentioned.
Sorry just added the link above.

It was the murders of two young girls in a small town in America but a lot of strange circumstances and will be an interesting trial. There are a couple of interesting podcasts on it which are worth a listen before the 13th if you have time!!

It’s a bit of a worry when we don’t know what arguments are! And I’ve just seen some of Harvey Weinstein’s convictions have been overturned in New York 😩 and might need to be a retrial.

These people try to get off on technicalities rather than any new evidence of innocence (because there isn’t any)
If worst case scenario happened ie successful appeal resulting in a retrial could she decide not to give evidence as she will be aware this was her absolute downfall.
