I think he sounds firm but fair. He used the word devotion and thanked the juror that’s had to leave, I don’t get the impression he felt anything but compassion for them. Another reason I think it was a really serious reason they left. He played it all right down to the others and explained it’s not uncommon at all and isn’t significant in terms of the case. What do people think the bit where Judge Goss says ‘you’ve been operating under the false pretence you won’t be in next week’ means? That the discharged juror shared with them they needed next week off so they all thought they’d be off and decided to arrange their appointments for then?
Thought it was a strange thing to say. I definitely think there’s way more going on than Judge Goss is letting on with this jury, his comments seem quite straightforward initially but there’s an undertone of him being pissed off I think. Quite rightly.
He knows exactly what they’ve all needed time off for. Bereavements and operations are just two serious things we know of.
Perhaps it was an administrative mistake kinda thing for next week and that’s why he was generous. Thinking about his momentum comment, at least with it being Monday it means they’re not interrupted mid-flow (so to speak) again.
I still do struggle to see what other than a medical emergency (which it can’t be because they clearly anticipated it and booked it) could really warrant more time off at this stage but I trust in The Big JizzleGizzle.
