This is a really interesting question- any legal minds able to let us know whether she'd have to take the stand again? Fingers crossed it doesn't reach the mistrial stage

I would imagine if there was a mistral and the trial started all over again she would absolutely have the option to not take the stand.

However I don't think it will happen, I think the judge will do everything possible to keep this going until the end.

Wow, it's like one of those social experiments.

I was listening to a true crime podcast the other day (I've tried to Google but I listen to so many, I think it was about Dominic Mckilligan) and they mentioned that after the trial finished and he was found guilty the van taking him to prison was swarmed by people attacking it and some of those people were members of the jury!

McKilligan is an evil piece of tit. He was in my friendship group at college and we all thought he was weird but had no idea about his previous convictions as it was kept secret.

You’d hope this isn’t the case but…Imagine being so football mad that you put some drinking celebrations repeatedly first above your commitment to the trial of one of the country’s worst serial killers. Absolutely pathetic if that was true. I’m speculating of course, but far too many after-bank hol after-big game absences now.

Being a teacher it doesn’t surprise me, I’m not generalising but the ‘youf’ of today are incredibly selfish!! In my head he’s a youngish fella, early 20s, no commitments, still living at home.

I know its not the main point of the posts but the solidarity from other parents of children with additional needs is amazing and makes me feel so much better just reading through.
From a mum that knows more about which toilets in my town and any I visit have hand dryers than any single person should Have climbed before now to turn the switch off

it really is so so lovely here, I agree with you it really feels good to know that we are not alone.
I hear you and all the other SEN mum
sisters, we can’t do hand dryers or lifts in public or noisy crowed environments, doesn’t like the hair dryer, hoover etc at home, as for the dishwasher, I think that one’s selective avoidance!

Mad everyone else's kids can't stand hand driers. My kids have sensory issues. My youngest has to have blinds closed most days and is ticklish even at the slightest touch but they LOVE being in noisy crowds/fairs etc. Don't ask me how that works but they do lol.

To clarify someone else agreed that she had a brother in the comments..not sure if it could be a half brother.
I have followed this trial for years since she was first arrested and have never seen this mentioned before.

OK, first of all I have issue with this. If she is found guilty we are going to get a ton of 'I was at school with her and she was' quiet and odd'. The reason I can't stand this is because her being quiet and odd, if true has no bearing on her killing babies. That is not a mandatory charisteristic of a baby killer.

How many people did you know at school that you might describe as 'a bit quiet and odd'. They are not all murderers. On the other hand we may have people who say she was complete opposite. But somebody has decided that 'quiet and odd' in their opinion is significant.

Some people don't fit in at school. For some people school was hell. And fir a lot of those people they will now be living normal lives, even successful and are definitely not serial killers.

I'm not surprised she got pounced on because it's witchy gossip. Not a defence of L!L but to be honest I couldn't give crap what she was like at school. It means nothing. She obviously did well enough to study to become a nurse? I don't like these types of stereotypes.

FWIW I do think it's one juror in particular. The judge sounded too pissed off for it to be for something really serious and I have noticed it's often after bank holidays, weekends or the football that court hasn't sat. Makes me think someone's had a few too many the day before court.



This is definitely more of an American thing and even there it's happening less due to being really expensive and the impact it could potentially have on jurors. It doesn't happen in England and I doubt it would for a trial of this length either.

Ok I can’t find specifically about whether she would have to take the stand again if there was a mistrial / incomplete trial due to jury issues.

but in the case of a retrial (so after a G / NG verdict but new significant evidence comes to light) then all evidence given orally at first trial must be given orally again, unless both parties agree but I can’t imagine BNE agreeing to that!! In the second trial witnesses can also be cross examined on evidence given at first trial too.

In that case this trial better sit until she has given all her evidence then so she can’t wriggle her way out of it in the unlikely event of a mistrial!
