Ok I understand, it’s as we keep saying, it’s such a shame we aren’t able to get the full picture / all of what is being said in court 🙁
This to me is a big part of the issue. We never have the full picture.

From the way it has been summarised above, what JJK said and what the podcast say match up. Thats two lots of “corroborative” reporting. The prosecution statement is the odd one out of 3, from how it has been reported.

Semantics matter and make a difference. A reporter writing or say “ JJK said she was definitely facing her” or “JJK said she may have been facing her” is obviously not the same thing. This is what gets lost in translation in the live reporting etc Semantics matter in court as well as it can be the difference between guilty or not guilty for any defendant. So it may well be that in reality JJK was absolutely clear that there was no way LL had been anywhere near baby N before the collapse but it just isn’t reported that way.

Guilty or not guilty can really turn on semantics when it comes to placing someone at the scene. Juries will often consider such eye witness accounts as more important than other evidence, particularly when it’s so circumstantial. I think someone posted on the previous thread about there being pretty much no concrete medical evidence here, its just could have’s and might have’s. Unlike something like DNA evidence which is absolute.

I haven’t had time to listen tot he podcasts and figure out which episode it is yet, but I will try to tomorrow. I just remember the whole issue peaking my interest although I was distracted at the time, listening whilst working. I just immediately thought that I was surprised at what they said. I think the podcast presenter may have used words such as “nowhere near”.

Dan has more detail. No mention of original statement but she actually says, on the stand, she can’t remember where in the room Lucy was.

So this isn’t the incident where the baby screamed?

Ah so she clearly didn’t necessarily see her come in and have her eyes on her the whole time. She was in the room. I bet she wishes she could remember! Because if Letby didn’t cause baby N harm, and baby N had a developing problem so serious he stopped breathing (that would return around Letby every time) and not the absolutely instant one he seemed to have.. it’s JJK that missed it (and all the equipment too of course).
Personally I would tend to scrutinise a good friend of the defendant’s eye witness account more than others.

the incident where the baby screamed was a 1am incident two weeks earlier, when the designated nurse was on a break.

The prosecution statement isn’t the ‘odd’ one out of 3 if JJK did actually say that originally and then say something different on the stand.

It has happened with other witnesses, it’s entirely possible. Nobody here knows what was in her original statement. Nobody knows if she was questioned in court on it. All any of us can do is form opinions based on what we are hearing from the media. And that’s ok, because not one of us is going to be asked to find her guilty or not guilty.

That said, what’s your view on baby E’s mum, and nurses Sophie Ellis and Melanie Taylor for baby C?
Do you find their testimonies on the stand as strong as JJK’s?
