She got away with it for the best part of a whole year because senior hospital staff failed to listen to the concerns of the consultants as early as June/July 2015.

If it’s easy to believe the babies died because the hospital was tit, why is it hard to believe she got away with it for so long because the hospital was tit?
The fact that nothing was done to combat this shows that even the senior staff thought the rise in deaths was due to the hospital being rit, how can the death rate triple senior staff be warned about what’s going on and still do nothing. There must have been something seriously wrong at this hospital for the seniors to think that the death rate could triple and it wasn’t something to make a fuss about

I think it's crazy for people to think LL isn't guilty of murdering babies because they can't bare to think that someone would be so evil.

Thank Christ we are all different 🙂
I guess we are all allowed our opinions! :)

Podcast… the night before the first arrest she had returned from a holiday with her parents and her father was staying with her. I presume maybe he drove her back or something? Sort of explains why he was there but not sure why her mum wasn’t there.
Sounds likely reason. Don’t think it’s unusual though. My Dad would have done the same. A lot of Dads do long distance taxiiing. My Dad did a 100mile trip for me there and back years ago when I said I’ve left something I needed in my uni room. The mum probably stayed and had peace from the Dad lol.

Whilst I know the insulin is a massive red flag in this case, I also can't get over how it wasn't absolutely raked over by the hospital at the time. If they knew the facts as they know them now, as they were still the same facts, then why was it just disregarded? What explanation was given at the time for the insulin?

I don’t believe it’s impossible for a killer to change their method. I just think given these particular circumstances it seems like the worst choice she could have possibly made. It doesn’t seem like a logical move to me is all and My opinion is based on loads of different things it’s far more than just the lack of logic in what they allege. I’ve always had doubts and having now heard the prosecution in full they just didn’t have enough to fully convince me.
Along these lines, if she is Guilty, wouldn't she have covered her tracks better? thrown away the hand written confessions? shredded all those handover notes? it's kind of Serial Killer 101! or is it sheer arrogance that made her think she didn't need to bother?
she seems a bit harmless to me, rather than a cold-blooded killer. But who knows, maybe it's all an act.

I'm genuinely interested in all the different views on here whether people think she is guilty or not some good points have been raised for both sides that have really made me think things through more.

Our opinion though in the scheme of it means jack tit because we are not the ones that are going to make the decision on whether she is guilty or not so until the verdict is in I am just going to continue to listen to both sides of the argument and hope and pray the jury make the right unanimous decision because a hung jury and retrial would be horrendous for all involved.

I think the hospital being so rit allowed her to go unnoticed for so long!
I agree on the insulin poisoning…. How was that not highlighted and investigated at the time! Could of saved the other babies 😞

Because they were recording them not trying to interpret them and they didn’t notice the significance of the c-peptides being low. How come every tiny mistake the hospital makes is usually a sign of Letby’s innocence and yet here we can’t believe that they’re chaotic and rubbish all of a sudden? Again, there’s countless times this has happened with medical poisoning cases. It’s not that shocking and changes nothing about the actual categorical fact that they were poisoned with synthetic insulin by somebody.

Absolutely, something we agree on! Whether the deaths were the fault of the hospital or the fault of Lucy, the senior staff turned a blind eye and the hospital failed to safeguard those babies from either further poor care or from a murderer. I think everyone agrees there was something seriously wrong with that hosptial. It doesn’t mean those babies must have all died from poor care though. Other failing hospitals have not resulted in a nurse being accused of murder.

Maybe Lucy saw a failing hospital and a perfect opportunity to try and get away with attacks. And it potentially worked for 12 months.

It's crazy isn't it?

I think getting away with the insulin spurred her on. She must've felt invincible.

The hospital director or management team definitely have those babies blood on their hands too.

Perfect setting for a killing spree 😨

It can be both; a badly run hospital and a serial killer on the loose. The serial killer was able to go undetected for so long because of the badly run hospital. The head honchos like Karen Rees’ failure to take Dr SB’s concerns seriously honestly makes me feel sick and heads should roll for it. What a grave mistake.

the jury also only have knowledge of what’s been said in court. Unless Ben brings it up they won’t know about the number of other deaths or the poor inspection etc. I enjoy the speculation and debate on here but all of us have had access to stuff the jury don’t have. In addition to them hearing far more detailed evidence than us. I remember Dan saying once they had 400 slides to go through!

They won’t even be allowed to discuss with each other yet I don’t think? They will have been entirely alone with their thoughts for 7 months and counting…

Sorry folks I’ve had to skip many pages on here purely for time management. So missed more discussions etc. It’s been a whirl and these have been some truly intelligent insights all throughout these 28 threads.

My god if Lucifer is perhaps going to be questioned and then obviously x-examined for longer than we thought then we’re definitely going way past May altogether. That jury deserve a holiday and a half after all of this, what unprecedented civic duty being plucked out of their lives for seven months and more to date. I do think this is (sadly) one for the history books of most heinous crimes of modern times tbh.

With all due respect. Serial killers do this. A lot. It’s not serial killer 101 at all. For example..
without going into too much detail- a case that’s quite famous, serial grape and murder. One person was caught but while in prison, after many years, finally admitted he had not only had an accomplice but that the other man was the ring leader. This person had been free for a long time. Every time they offended, on the way back, they would listen to a certain song on cassette in the car. That cassette was found under the other man’s floorboards in his home when they searched. Despite almost getting away with such heinous crimes, he couldn’t part with it.
Almost every medical serial killer I’ve read about has kept things. Many of them still kept them despite knowing eyes were on them and even police had begun investigating. One of my faves is a book of poisons with all the corners turned down in the pages of the poisons she used 😅 clever woman, graduated early from college, mum, socially skilled. Killed lots of patients for kicks.

Why the rit have you got a crown and I haven't?

I'm gonna kick right off in a minute!

this is what I think needs a major change because it sounds like if you know what to look for with insulin and c-peptides results that it should be relatively simple to flag? You’d think it would even be easy to make it computer generated with a threshold for flagging up to investigate but that’s probably too advanced for the nhs haha.

I’d be furious this was missed but it doesn’t surprise me it was missed either.
