Sorry if it’s been answered - In the UK, does someone have to plead not guilty in order to have a jury trial? I don’t know a great deal about the UK judicial system.

Seems so odd if that’s the case because then her lawyers have advised her to plead not guilty, which means they think she isn’t guilty… surely a better option would have been to enter a plea deal and admit guilt & remorse??
I wouldn't expect much of a plea deal when we are talking of 22 charges. LL has nothing to lose by taking it to trial...but alot to gain.

Yes and even Lucy’s own notes show the feed was due at 9pm, except she wrote it was to be omitted, which neither the SHO or mother remember. Mum would remember being told this.

Letby's notes also show: "prior to 21:00 feed, 16ml mucky slightly bile-stained aspirate obtained and discarded, abdo soft, not distended. SHO [Senior House Officer] informed, to omit feed." The prosecution say the nursing notes made are false, and fail to mention that Child E was bleeding at 9pm. They mention a meeting that neither the registrar or the mother remember.
The fact that it’s from here on in really that she starts falsifying notes, to me shows this is her maybe realising people are getting suss (especially after the “something odd text” etc). And this is her starting to become far more calculating and devious, and is falsifying notes and conversations in a bid to cover her tracks, there are so many more note falsifying incidents after this 😩

I just can’t get my head round why no PM was done. I don’t blame the parents at all because they took the advice from the hospital, even the coroner said it wasn’t needed. I know this was a premature baby but he had unexplained bleeding. The doctor said 13mls and never seen that much before in a tiny baby - 25% of blood volume . Do poorly babies sometimes just bleed with no known cause? Or would it just be presumed to be something?
I'm struggling with this too..not from parent's perspective....but the hospital?

How could she be in cahoots with the SHO who will also say no meeting took place between them and Letby, no order to omit the 9pm feed was given. The mum would invent blood and her being told it was from the feeding tube? And the father would stick to that story too? Nope nope nope. I cannot be expected to believe all of that all at once.
theres too many people you’d need to rely on not to slip up. 7 years is a long time for everyone to stick to a same made up story.

The father has confirmed the time of the phonecall and the conversation about the bleeding, I notice Ben hasn’t questioned him much after he confirmed it.

I think the hospital just ducked up there. Doesn’t mean Lucy is innocent but someone/something whatever after this trial should be held accountable for some monumental mistakes.

did anyone watcg the coroner program on chan 5? I’m sure the bald man on there said all suspicious deaths have to be referred for a post mortem. So I am guessing it wasn’t down as suspicious first?

See I think the duck ups in the hospital created the perfect opportunity for this sort of crime. I am not saying the hospital is acceptable in any way but there has also been so many came forward and said the care they received was excellent and just the same as any old hospital.

This is absolutely horrific, the poor mam of those twins. Lucy letby is an evil bleep. Just change ya plea witch and spare the other parents having to go through giving evidence - except she’s probably getting off on listening to all this!!!!!!

Wow wow wow the way Judith has reported what BM said is even worse!!!

This isn’t just querying if she made a mistake with timings.

So it wasn’t horrendous but was at 9 or it didn’t happen at 9 or at all? Make up your mind Benny (N.A.N) Fella.

Wait was this not her designated baby???

It doesn’t matter what her lawyer thinks she is, they can advise her to plead guilty if they think they don’t have much of a case, but it is ultimately up to her and as someone else said, she’s better going NG on the off chance she gets off. I assume if you plead guilty that it bypasses the need for a jury, as their only job is to decide g or ng, and it would just be up to the judge to pass a sentence.

So if she pleads NG, there’s always a chance (however small) that she could get off. If she pleads guilty, she’s off to prison no doubt.

As a relative of adult patients I do challenge their treatment if I have concerns. But I've always complied when I've been asked to leave the room / ward because I understand that having extra people can hinder emergency care, especially if space is limited. In the mother's situation I would have left too.

My heart goes out to all these families, but especially to this mother who will probably spend the rest of her life thinking "if only".

This is so sad:

She had been expected to give birth in Liverpool Women's Hospital, but due to capacity reasons she was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Sadly I agree..my own local hospital was in special measures for a short time (and chief executive left during the " clean up")
Not sure what my point is..my head's gone this morning!! Basically...I agree with you and will say again..she's one evil witch!
I was prepared to be persuaded otherwise but can't see that happening now!!

Sorry.. it was too quiet? They’ve just had as many deaths in a month or so as they normally do in a bleeping year and work is too quiet? Shut the front bleeping door. Guess suboptimal care because the unit was so busy ain’t going to cut it with this one Letterz you floppy hatted bleep.

Yeah I’d like to hear an explanation for this one. Quiet as in nothing to do? Too many staff and not enough babies? (Not believable)

Or quiet as in nothing exciting happening.(very unfortunate wording for someone supposedly ‘innocent’ but on trial for murder just hours before one of her babies dies)

I’m just sort of dipping in and out as the thread moves so quick. I thought she was guilty straight away, just as I thought there were so many charges and the investigation had gone on for so long that they just have the evidence to prove her guilt. I know there were a few at the start who thought she was not guilty so just generally interested to see if they still think she is not guilty xx

Not just suspicious, all unexpected deaths should receive a post-mortem.
