I am still so unsure but the last weeks trial sways me more towards guilty than not guilty for the first time.

Only thing I feel from reading transcripts to me it feels like people are answering to fit the narrative that she is guilty and lots of differing answers from what previous police statements were etc

I’m a paediatric nurse and for me a little baby who hadn’t opened his bowls ever, having bilious aspirates/1 vomit, air in tummy on X-ray, distended abdomen as per nurses notes and patient being unsettled etc would be major worrying signs for me as a nurse, but all the responses today about child C seem to indicate no one is worried about that and I don’t get it.

Quoting myself here but how can an abdomen be described as soft to firm to touch

It’s either soft OR firm it can’t be both

Respect her? I know she was in interview...but everything is about HER...or what I've seen and read😢
IF innocent sounds like she needed some sort of counselling (probably none available to her) or she was totally in the wrong job. Not everyone can do that kind of job-she was getting way too emotionally attached to the babies by the sounds of it.

But she didn't realise she was being suspected until a year later - how would she have reviewed the notes then to remember details for her arrest a year later? Especially when child A had died so his notes would hardly be lying around to access, and child C wasn't her designated patient to get her hand on the notes.

And if she was replaying the incident, surely she'd also replay what she was doing? So why didn't she remember she was in the room for child C's collapse, and need the police to remind her based on text messages she sent?

More importantly, if she was replaying the events, what happened to this? Why didn't she follow through - why didn't she ensure there was a record of her request?

"Child A - In an interview in June 2019, Letby said she had asked for all fluids to be kept from the bag at the end to be checked, but the prosecution said there was was no record of her having made such a request."
Suppose it depends on the unit but I know I'll often save the last assessment I did with a patient on a word document on my works computer if they die, so that I can go over it and make sure I did everything right. I'd also access patient notes for supervisions whether I was the supervisor or supervisee following a death so we would review. We'd also look at them in team debriefs/team reflections and as part of after action reviews which happen pretty quick.
I'm not saying all of those things happened in this particular hospital or trust but they're very common in mine so you'd get lots of opportunities to review notes.

Sorry, I just don’t buy it when in context with everything else she has repeatedly forgotten throughout multiple police interviews. Bearing in mind with child a it was her signature for administering the fluid on the records. So reading the notes to refresh her memory wouldn’t have pointed to the other nurse. if she spent so much time replaying the events why can’t she remember other details of those events?

Do you really not find it suspicious that the only detail she seems to remember is placing another member of staff with the baby just before they collapsed?

ETA: it’s like she knows that the collapse is linked to something occurring just beforehand. Funny (not funny) that.
Ah yeah forgot she signed for it. Of course I think its suspicious, I just don't think its good enough evidence of guilt and there could be another explanation 🤷‍♀️

Hi I don't know if I'm being thick but it sounded to me like LL wasn't near baby C before the collapse. Please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. X

I’ve just been updating the wiki and noticed Ben Myers has asked every single witness so far (six of them, and that’s only Thursday/Friday) about the dark bile. And they all say something along the lines of it’s something to keep an eye on but abdomen was soft and it didn’t worsen etc. but he seems to be sticking to his guns on that one of course.

I think he’s going down the obstruction route but even the original pathologist didn’t diagnose that. So it shows even they don’t agree with the original pathologist. So I wonder who he has got to back up the obstruction theory. I wish defence could present their case after each child while it’s all fresh in our minds.

The defence say pathology identified acute pneumonia in Child C.

The defence suggest a structural blockage could have caused distention.

Oh and he did say they accept someone injecting air is a possibility.

For Child C, the defence say it is accepted that someone had injected air as a "theoretical possibility", but that is "a very long way from proving what has taken place".

Mr Myers said the jury would have to look at the practicalities of that, and consider alternative explanations.
Why isn’t defence presenting their case after each child does anyone know?

‘Whoever is higher up’? Do you mean a manager without medical experience or a medical professional?
How would a manager convince a medical professional what their medical interpretation should be? I’m doubting that a manager has much medical knowledge so how would that happen?
The Consultant himself admitted that he did not understand what was happening medically with baby C. That’s why he referred him to the Coroner.
Laughing at myself for that term lol. I don’t know what else to call it 😂 I meant like, the people in charge… at the top… the people or person who would be responsible for handling negligence complaints against the hospital, the people that make all the top decisions there. I don’t know who they would be or if they would have medical knowledge. I have no understanding of how hospitals are run in that sense it’s just something which in my head seems plausible when you add it with everything else they consider evidence she’s guilty

Taken from the bbc write up today and Chester standard, also from today. Both clearly stating that Dr Evans works for neither the prosecution nor the defence, he only works independently for the court
So he's paid my the courts interesting.

Yeah I get that they don't stay with baby 24/7 but when you have been told more once to stick to the assigned baby and you haven't it's worrying to me
I'm not sure, I can't remember exactly but I think I might have seen nurses chatting and split up when they noticed a more senior nurse peering. In isolation I don't think it makes her guilty.

Would Baby C still be alive on that night he collapsed if Lucy hadn’t been in the room when it happened, that for me is a big question for the jury to consider. She had no reason to be there and she should have been looking after the baby she was assigned to in another room who was considered to be causing concern. When is too many coincidences not a coincidence?
And keep trying to go into the family room with the poor parents after being told to keep out, no matter if you think she’s guilty or not that is clearly very wrong.
I’m confused also as they say they would have been severely brain damaged 😢 or was that caused by the collapse 😢

I think MT said that LL was already in Room 1 at the time of collapse. It was on Fridays court session.
The notes from today's Chester chronicle don't make reference to her being there at the arrest, it was new nurse and miss Taylor I think. So, have they already mentioned that she went in room 1, left the room and then baby collapsed?? Are they saying it was air down Ng tube or in vein? Sorry for million questions. X

So is the only question the defence asked was if the mum was sure it was Lucy she saw at 7pm? Or will he ask her more than that. My live update is a bit delayed but can see they’ve moved onto the fathers statement?

Can anyone clarify about Dr Dewi Evans, he was brought into this by the NCA, so is he “just a witness” that the prosecution are calling (due to all that he has found in looking through these cases), rather than paid for by the prosecution?
