Oof, snarky, provoke-y vibe on here today or what!!!! I read yesterday that on average in the UK people use their smartphones for 4.5 hours a day, most of that scrolling the internet and sm. That's average, so for some it's much more (or, equivalently, less). Time for this Owl to ditch the phone and head for calmer panoramas xx

Owl you pointed out to me yesterday that people had already discussed in detail when I posted about painter and couple that was a bit confusing why did you feel the need to do that?

Neither would I. But it’s so arrogant to travel to a country knowing it’s rules and then flaunting them regardless (and mostly seems to always be from a western tilt).



Not from me. Go to a country, abide by and respect its rules, as far as I’m concerned. Which equally applies to a Muslim family visiting Brighton from Morocco during pride month.

Well, he claims he wasn't aware when he was invited. Though it was arguably up to him to research that before going.

But eh, I can't get worked up about it. Some of these countries need it calling out.

I did a Google to see if it was a full moon it’s not. (Although the next full moon is the 31st and today is the 13th make of that what you will…)

So what? I can’t believe someone would be so rude to publicly trash a countries government and rules live on stage. It’s just so arrogant, and as ppl have pointed out, western arrogance thinking they can talk about stuff like this without consequence - meanwhile, it’s had very real consequences for LGB ppl living there, which will affect the next few decades at the very least, but at least a washed up brit got to kiss his same sex band member on stage and then flew home

Just wondering, do you apply the same fairness to people who travel from other countries to the UK who come to give the UK a “calling out” about the UK’s liberal stance on gay rights?

I mean, some of our homegrown do it. At pretty much any gay pride parade, you'll get a cohort of religious people with placards telling those present that they need to repent, etc.

I don't like it, but I have to accept that they have the right to give their views. Just as long as they don't moan when I give them what for - after all, they've invited it.

Why should they be above criticism? They deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Equal rights weren't won by being quiet and meek.

No need to apologise. I don't think your post is rambling; it makes perfect sense. Religious people who are homophobic do sometimes act as though their view is 100% right and therefore that it's not to be challenged. They can also use it to absolve themselves of any responsibility, with lines such as: "Hey, it's not my view, but you can't argue with the word of God".

I was raised in a religious household, but my parents never openly expressed homophobic views. They also didn't really express any positive views about gay people; it was just never a subject we ever discussed. That said, deep down I knew they didn't harbour any homophobic opinions as they were always able to take the 'good' parts of religion (eg caring for one's neighbour) and realising some of the more judgemental aspects were old-fashioned.

Thank you for saying that, I appreciate it. That’s it, the way they can “legitimise“ their views and distance themselves from it. It’s really chilling when you think about it.

I’m glad to hear that was your experience. Well, that at least you knew there was no implied prejudice with their views.

I know the thread’s taken a different tangent today, but I do appreciate being able to talk about our experiences here.

It’s helped me think things through. I always just thought I had a “complicated“ relationship with religion, and dismissed any negative affects it’s had on me, because other people have it worse. But it’s really helped give me some peace of mind to acknowledge that actually, it‘s caused me a lot of feelings of upset and loneliness over the years, especially when I was younger.
