There are some you tubers I've watched he'd now for years (not travel vloggers) even if there content hasn't changed all that much I still tune in because they have actual personality. I liked Katherine's old travel vlogs because she seemed just like a normal person. Now it's all aesthetic and no substance. She likes Japan but I couldn't tell you from her vlogs if she has a favourite anime or manga, just that she thinks the characters are cute and she likes going to the 'conveeny'
Same, there are some YouTubers that I’ve watched for years but they have lost the momentum of growth which is what I meant by “shelf life”. We all have a finite amount of time to spend on the content of these people and, when personality is the main factor, if they pivot, or you do, the connection and value is more often than not diminished. Plus there are new channels popping up all the time, it seems a super risky strategy to me.

And 100% agree with everything else. I really admired her a few years ago and thought she was authentic. Guess not. 😂

Presumably she started manufacturing some of her own stuff because she was fed up of paying other companies to do it for her. So she bought all the printers and other equipment for the studio to do it herself. Now she’s doing a complete flip and is farming it all out to some Print on Demand outfit. Her stuff was already expensive for what it is but customers will now have to pay even more so that the middle man can take their cut. Cutesy stickers and t-shirts with logos are ten a penny and her designs are so generic she risks people just going elsewhere.

Very telling when she dropped out in a recent vlog “My personal channel is actually doing better than Katnipp heehee”.
Shes under the impression that she’s now the product. Big mistake. Especially with Dead Wood Deano hanging off her pinny strings and eating half the profits whilst refusing to engage with her on camera. Good luck with that one!
the thing is, it's only doing well as a by-product of her main business, i.e. we see her business 'succeeding' and want to see her life now. With the business gone I can't see anyone giving a flying fig what's she's up to on the daily.

I really used to like Catherine, so it pains me to say but in her latest vlog she just comes across as spoilt and (like others have said) she just doesn’t want to work as much anymore and wants to swan off to Disney all the time for “inspiration”. She clearly thinks she’s going to be better off as a travel vlogger and “producing children books” (her characters aren’t that cute or interesting imo and it’s an insult when she compares herself to Beatrix Potter) also she has hardly any experience getting into such a saturated market - she illustrated like one children’s book years ago didn’t she?
I completely agree with whoever said that Catherine thinks she’s now “the brand”. The whole thing stinks to me and I don’t like the way she’s trying to pull the wool over her viewers eyes/either that or she believes her own bulls***. She comes across as genuinely delusional - why are they going to France for 6 weeks when they have a load of stock to shift?
She seems a completely different person to the girl I used to enjoy watching years ago.

Breaking her heart my a. It’s all about her, even in this comment! She couldn’t even say thank you.

This is sad.
She decided only last Thursday and told him. She couldn’t even give him a few months to sort himself out after working for her for 6-7 years! That is awful!
She is awful!
When he said he will focus on trying to be a fulltime online gamer now 😞

Hang on a minute… Ashleigh is the director of an equine equipment supplier that used to be in Mike’s name. They dissolved the company in his name and started the same business up again in her name under a different brand. There is stuff going on here, does he mention any of this in that vlog? If not then wool is being pulled over viewers eyes.

At the end around the hour mark he said they were speaking about it taking 6 months or up to Christmas to phase things and products out , but that Catherine wanted to do it in 2 months !! So he was pretty shocked understandably

He mentioned that Ashleigh was away working on some saddle business I think. I didn’t watch it all the way through though

Mike doing sad face about being unemployed when he has another family business on the side albeit being “run” by his wife is disingenuous to say the least. The few minutes of his vlog I watched made it sound like he was going to be jobless apart from the gaming thing. Virtually destitute. And lo and behold a $4.99 donation is in the comments.
I’m afraid I don’t believe a word that this lot say.

She did mention the tariffs in her announcement video
Could be a convenient excuse. She isn't Mercedes sending millions pounds worth of cars to America.

Tariffs on stickers etc would be minimal

I feel like this post from November was hinting at how she was unhappy doing Katnipp Studios.
Complains that you can’t just reach a point where you don’t have to do anything anymore, you have to keep working, that’s life Catherine.
Complains that she doesnt spend all her time drawing characters, grow up.

I think she just hates working. Maybe the tax bill came and that was the nail in the coffin, but honestly just think she’s lazy and unrealistic.

Who's that in that photo? Because it sure as hell isn't Catherine. That's Disney in Denial type of editing 🤣

I'm in the same business as her, though physical sales at conventions and such rather than online so far. A lot of UK artists are being hit by the tariff problems, she's not the first to announce closing up shop, recently, though I don't believe that's her reason at all.

Print on demand is pricy and doesn't give much return to the artist unless you're doing very well. That's why so many artists source out their own manus (or buy shirt presses etc.) and do it themselves.

But someone as consistently bad at quality checking her products should NOT be looking into persuing kickstarter or similar to crowd source her items, especially plushies and pins. That requires a LOT of back and forth between herself and whatever manu she decides to use, and a lot of trust in the creator (her) to not rip potentially hundreds of people off with shoddy items that have the wrong patterns or colours or anything. I've also witnessed small businesses go under because they launched hugely successful kickstarters and then had to refund everyone because the products came and weren't what they wanted at all.

This is all such a strange move for her to be making - if it weren't for the tact that print on demand allows you to swan around the world. Which is exactly why she's doing this, I feel. She obviously doesn't NEED katnip to do as well as she pretended it did, as they have other income to play with. Now she can throw her designs on Redbubble, make a pittance (by comparison) while charging her loyal customers double, and live in France or Spain or wherever she fancies being at the time.

Nobody closes a business this fast….something is definitely up. I do feel for Mike though as he’s the main earner in his household and Catherine should have given him plenty more warning than this!
No doubt he’ll find another job to tide him over financially until his own channel takes off though as he seems a nice guy & hardworker.
