I’m surprised she hasn’t got a thread already.
Prior to 2008, Katie Piper was a promo girl and appeared on some shopping channels. In March 2008, she was the victim of an awful acid attacking following an abusive relationship. She waived her right to anonymity in 2009 to relay her story in a Channel 4 documentary (although I can definitely remember reading about what had happened to her on the Digital Spy forums before this, as that website had a community that was quite obsessed with late night digital TV). Since 2009, she has appeared on numerous TV shows (including Strictly) and is now a Loose Woman. Her career is now in a vastly different place post-attack (she didn’t even have a Wikipedia page until around the time of the Channel 4 doc).
Hopefully I can share this in the safe space that is Tattle but I honestly am flabbergasted that she continues to get booked for things. She seems pleasant enough but has absolutely no charisma and could you talk to paint off a wall. She’s been on Loose Women for over a year now and I can’t recall a single interesting anecdote or funny moments that she has provided.
Obviously, what happened to her was horrific and extremely sad. It’s quite weird that this even needs to be said but her public persona is so wrapped up in the crime that was committed against her that it is almost necessary to clarify this when you are even slightly critical of her in other areas. It seems almost sacrilegious to not like her.
This might be a bizarre comparison but the hype around her makes her seem like the forefather of Captain Tom. An inspirational story that never went away.
