From when I had my first in 2015 to my second in 2019, breastfeeding definitely wasn’t pushed as much. It was really pushed on me in 2015. It’s more the subtlety in the language that drs/midwives/ health visitors would use back then. The first question would always be ‘are you breastfeeding?’ compared to when I had my second and they would ask ‘how are you feeding?’. It’s such a small change but with my first I would have to say no I’m formula feeding and whether they did or whether I was imagining it there would always be a look of disappointment from them.
Having said that, I’m so sick of every instamum always going through this breast vs formula saga. If you want to breastfeed, fine. If you want to formula feed, fine! It’s YOUR baby and YOUR decision. You couldn’t line up 10 children and point out which ones were breastfed and which ones were formula anyway.
I expect she will switch to formula feeding or combination feeding and I’ll wait with baited breath for the ads for the #gifted tommee tippee perfect prep machine and bottles and sterilisers!
