For the past half hour I’ve gone down a Kate King wormhole and stumbled across this video on her YouTube channel

She’s explaining how she got into radio via a Zoom meeting to a gaggling horde of OAPs. I have to say her ability to talk and fill those awkward pauses between each statement that she makes is quite remarkable. She didn’t stop talking for the entire duration of a nearly twenty minute Zoom meeting. I’m unaware if she was reading from a script she’s drafted but nevertheless, she’s got good communication skills which would look good on any CV. It was actually quite interesting to listen to. I had no idea that she originally was going to go on a radio course with the BBC before lockdown happened. She’s also met Ken Bruce and Tony Blackburn due to her presence on hospital radio.

I agree completely. I've watched a similar talk by her and she's a natural public speaker. You can really tell she was raised by a different generation from the rest of us with how comfortably she can address an audience (or at least an audience of pensioners). She definitely has some skills and I'm sure if she reached out for careers support then some kind of job, placement, or training could be found.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the radio apprenticeship programme ended up going ahead but Kate and Val didn't like the idea of her having to travel. I can't remember where she would've had to go but I know it wasn't unreasonable for a commute.

As odd as she is, I think she's a good egg and seems to thrives in things related to old people. As other people have said, care homes would be great for her but if that's too depressing (which I imagine it would be) I could see her being a receptionist at lawyers office that deals with wills and other things related to older people. I think she'd love it cause she's nosey but also because she seems like she'd be good at helping older people relax. That said, if she couldn't even count coins properly for muggins at the bowls club, I think a lawyers office is probably too much for her (I've also been binge watching better call saul and the way Jimmy is kind to older people reminds me of are Kate)

Christ no. I couldn’t think of anything worse than Kate working in a lawyers office. How many people would end up getting arrested for bigamy because shes forgotten to file their divorce papers properly?

but it would be the perfect grandad hunting ground for her. Think of all the widows Kate!

I remember as a kid there was someone with cerebral palsy who worked on the checkouts in Sainsbury's. Kate would be good at that since it involves a lot of small talk and dealing mostly with older customers since everyone else uses self-service. Even though she's terrible at maths she would just need to enter how much money a cash-paying customer has given her on the till and it will tell her how much change to give.

Is it weird that whenever I see a post like this, referring to someone's grandad, my brain now automatically goes...

"Kate King? Is that you?"

😆

Unfortunate for ar Kate to promise freedom is coming just two months before the first lockdown. I hope she doesn't turn her hands to clairvoyance

Ahhhhh I’m desperate for Kate updates. I wanna know how she celebrated the coronation sooo badly. I just know Val and Mick/Mike are die hard royalists.

Coronation concert would be significantly less rit if they let the "Costa Coffee Song" hitmaker grace the stage
