Long time lurker here. Have been following JALB for many years and frankly find the account pointless for the last year or so. A new project will at lease provide some interest! I am quite interested in peoples’ views and assumptions on her husband’s salary vs lifestyle. I would never share this info IRL but my husband does earn 7figs (significant part goes to tax man). I don’t feel we live an extravagant lifestyle. Nice house, nice car, nice holidays and no money worries granted - but our kids go to local school, I often buy second hand items for the kids and myself. For those imagining 7 figures means a life of utter luxury this isn’t the case for anyone sensible and with a view to long term financial planning. Just my two cents!

On another note, she's packing her own stuff?! Is she mad? The biggest recommendation EVER for moving house is to use the packing service!

I stopped following once the work stopped and the adds began because her account no longer interested me. I was a regular follower when she was renovating and also followed some of the Cornwall stuff because we were on that path ourselves.
They have money and can afford many things others can’t. But her husband is clearly in a very good position work wise and she has used her platform to also earn money. They have what they have because they work for it. Can’t take that away from them.
She has what she has by exploiting her children, I’d rather pay for my own extractor fan then do that!!!
Equally I wouldn’t share this if wasn’t anonymous. But my husband earns £500k per year Pre tax and I think I live moderately “luxuriously” with swimming pool, private school but I’m not really into designer clothes. How you can say a 7 fig annual salary wouldn’t pay for a life of luxury is beyond me. It absolutely does unless you are stashing 90% away. As someone in my fortunate enough position I know if my husbands salary doubled to 7 figs we would be living the absolute dream and have more money than we’d possibly need and I live in the south east not somwhere cheap.
Yah and rich people don’t pack their own stuff. Heck when I was poor I worked extra shifts so I didn’t have to pack my own stuff.
She doesn’t use her platform to earn money, she uses her children. I don’t want to take their successes or money away from them I just wish brands would stop working with these sell outs and they could fade back into oblivion
We certainly do save but not 90%. It is true that the more you earn the more you spend, so monthly outgoings on housing, transport etc add up. To clarify it is not a salary but salary + bonus. This means we try to live within monthly income and bonus goes to holidays, home improvements etc.
Anyway, I am in no way denying my privilege (and am very grateful for the situation we are in) I suppose I’m trying to say that those sorts of earnings don’t get you a private jet lifestyle as some seem to imagine. Hoping this doesn’t sound entitled - I just found some of the observations on here quite interesting.
P.s we are South in one of the most expensive cities so housing really is a big chunk.
Ummm I agree to a point but she was able to get her platform because of quite a lot of privilege and a lot of good timing. He is in his 40s so would’ve benefitted from a pre recession world and easily had the funds to get onto the property market. I work hard and so does my husband but it’s unlikely that we will ever achieve the lifestyle they have. Especially as we only managed to buy a small flat in London in our mid 30s after years of saving for a deposit. I had to unfollow a couple of years ago because I got just a little bit bored.
I don’t begrudge influencers doing ads - I run my own small business along side my “day job” and I know how much goes in to creating content and it obviously works otherwise big businesses wouldn’t keep throwing cash at the Insta Influenzas. Knowing your partner can easily bank roll you and your lifestyle, mortgage etc will still be paid even if your venture doesn’t work out is a very nice place to be. That’s not afforded to everyone who works hard.
This isn’t a dig at all - just my rambling thoughts.
I don't think his salary would afford private jets but it certainly could afford a comfortable/very comfortable lifestyle and home without selling your kids on Instagram. Also a few nice handbags or coats.
I’ve been reading this all with interest. I can’t stand JALB, she gets right on my nerves and I think she’s disgusting selling her children on Instagram to earn money.
I do however believe her husband’s career is a separate matter. She could have gone back to work doing another job to contribute to the household, regardless of his salary, and we wouldn’t have had a problem. There are plenty of couples who are both high earners. Or the mother gets a lower paid part time job after having children, despite her partner having an extremely well paid career. It’s the fact she’s an Instagram shiller, doing the dirty, that we’re here.
completely agree. I do work part time and my salary is almost not worth it but I enjoy it. Don’t understand why you would voluntarily do the Instagram thing (with kids especially) if you don’t need to. She’s definitely just a little bored with life. I can’t comprehend it, but then I find all instagrammers completely pointless and cringeworthy (yet can’t stop watching!)

Of course I do. As said above I don’t deny I am very privileged. This was mainly in response to someone further up who said “if my husband was earning 7 figures I’d be leading a much nicer lifestyle than SJ” (something along those lines). I am not looking to start a debate just providing a view point from another angle.

Exactly. I’m not expecting private jets and a Kylie Jenner wardrobe but there’s nothing that she shares at least that would suggest that kind of income.
Agree. I went part time in my minimum wage job because I like to get out into the world sometimes rather than being so bored I need to live through a lens
