You know what I just realized… she talks about joyfulness the same way the crackpot fundie types like the Duggars and Bates do. Wonder if she’s a cult escapee 🤔

I think she fancies herself as some sort of Martha Stewart type. However the only thing she has in common with Martha is a lack of morals when it comes to the accumulation of $$$. Martha did it with the IRS and went to jail for her trouble. This one does it by grifting. And Martha has more style in her little fingernail than this hag bag lady.

Lady, you’ve been in France for *maybe* a week. You’re not basically anything except an annoying tourist who thinks they’re a know it all after a few excursions with Viking.

Im having second hand embarrassment at her post with this woman. I clicked on the link to her IG thinking she was some luxury vlogger. Nope, she’s an award winning travel journalist who appears to have written about a number of interesting and varied destinations just in 2024 alone without going back further on her grid. But yes Jen, make her sound like some rich vapid housewife shopping in Paris on vacation.

That's her M.O. and brand.
Most definitely! I just hate when a kick ass female who has honed her skills for decades is reduced to “oh she’s a fun shopper”. The same thing happens with female sports reporters. “Oh her outfit is cute.” Like these women are doing the things I dreamed of when I graduated from journalism school in the 90s and they’ve worked their asses off to get to this point in their career. I think that’s why influencers getting categorized as press on some of these trips pisses me right off. Give them a free trip if you want but don’t bleeping act like they have a degree or loads of writing experience.

None of them are getting assigned to cover Gaza, the Olympics in Paris or some off the beaten path destination.

Absolutely! Most of them couldn't put a sentence together properly if a free trip an cocktails depended on it.

Tbh that Tracey person looks like the person Jen wants to be (or thinks she is)

I don't really generally comment on people's looks, but it's interesting how they become a focus when someone is not a great person on the inside. You notice it more and its like the inside coming out.

So I am not defending JL in general, but I did discontinue my patron membership after this past month and caught some content before I was no longer able to access the page. Viking as it turns out did not require her to post anything because in Europe/based on European laws they would be required to pay her on top of the accommodations and inclusions in the trip if she provided specific reviews. Viking suggested hashtags etc. that were optional but really they just want her to post the content that she wants and go from there, from how the arrangement sounds. They were also originally supposed to go on the Christmas Market river cruise in December but her husband's work schedule conflicted with that so they were able to reroute her hosted trip to this trip

So she said she was returning to Paris as the guest of a major travel company. So the cruise was a gift and she’s promoting it. How is that not a paid ad? Is she getting round it by suggesting that Viking have no influence on the content? She’s using their hashtag #myvikingstory. She didn’t come up with that herself

I wouldn’t think it has anything to do with European law because US vloggers go on gifted trips outside the US all the time and UK vloggers like Vicky No Detail goes on the Disney ones in the US and they use the #ad or #gifted. I’d think it is based on where you the vlogger are based and paying taxes. But if that’s the case, the IRS might be interested in Jen’s free trip that she doesn’t plan to declare because it’s in Europe, 🍿👀

Also thinking of the cruise vloggers who go on press trips like Ben and David, EECC Travel and Cruise Tips TV and fully disclose it being a press trip in social media posts and vlogs and still give their own opinions on things.

This all sounds well fishy. Using some excuse of European law and not being paid on top of the actual cruise so you don't have to declare it properly yet you're posting to social media with their hashtag. What a load of BS.

Care to share why?
I would say I valued her videos back in 2020ish when I bought DVC and found her videos as I was doing DVC research before purchasing. And I never mind throwing a few bucks at a content creator that I actually value or that has provided me something of value. But lately especially after downsizing to one channel I'm just not finding value in the content being posted, even if the only Patreon tier is $5/month now. Everything just seems like a brag these days or just repetitive information, rather than informative content.

To clarify about the cruise, the way she described it was that it was quite literally a gift, and they actually would have to pay her if they wanted say, 5 YouTube videos, 10 instagram posts, 3 instagram stories every day, etc... Could be just a France thing since she was only in France. She also did say that Adam let her know that information and that's why Viking was being so casual...but maybe something to take with a grain of salt, lol.

But either way that's the logic behind it and she said she would still likely be posting while she was there and then was debating if she would release multiple videos or just 1 or 2 depending on the vibe when she got on the ship. I guess we'll see.

I was also on her Patreon a while back, I unsubscribed a few months ago for very similar reasons. There was just no value and I also feel that her content has become far too repetitive (packing videos, Disney, cruises, rinse and repeat). There's little effort from her to do anything new and she's just phoning it in.

There's been a very obvious shift over the past year into "luxury" but personally I don't find her authentic in that space. She's buying Burberry coats and Gucci bags and Scott's getting a Porsche. Which of course is fine, spend your money how you want. But she's flexing and bragging about it and it's kind of cringeworthy. Almost as if that's not where she sits comfortably but she's desperate to insert herself into this market for leverage and it just feels "off".

It's like she just wants to tell people she's better than them. I know a few folks who have a LOT of money, way more than Faux Jen. One buys Subarus because that's what suits her (and she doesn't care that much about cars, just that they work). For another, buying Mercedes is just buying a good car to him, he doesn't brag or show it off, it's just a car.

And if those people still carry a mortgage in their mid 50s it’s because they live in an obscenely expensive part of the country and/have a home that warrants it. Not carrying a mortgage on a McMansion cookie cutter house in the ATL burbs that would have cost $250-300k tops.

No gift from a company is just because they think you're swell if they've never interacted with you. They expect something out of it as it would come out of advertising budgets.
I watch stuff in the guitar space and I've seen some talk about getting payment etc. but many others saying, "PRS sent me this guitar in exchange for making this video about my thoughts on it". It's compensation.

I can guarantee these folks don't. They have way more advantageous financial positions than I'll ever even understand. But that said, they're really nice, and down to earth folks who happen to have been born into wealth but do give back generously.

I still don’t understand why she’s doing everything to NOT make money. After bragging about finally making 6 figures last year. She’s down to one $5 tier. She’s down to one channel. She’s phoning in the videos. She’s saying she won’t film another DVC video again, people should watch her old ones….Surely she’s going to take a big hit in income this year?

Interesting that she’s said this to her patrons. I think she’s in for a rude awakening if she’s taking business advice from Twattan.

First of all, I don’t think I’ve seen him take one gifted/press trip ever. Second of all, being gifted a trip is literally what 99% of the cruise vloggers get. No additional payment besides the actual free trip. It’s when they enter into additional payment and contracts about how many videos, posts, etc that things get tricky and the line gets blurred about being unbiased etc.

But even a free trip is supposed to be declared when this is your job. But knowing her and Twattan, they’re just delusional enough to think that a company like Viking just gives away free trips to Europe to vloggers they like and they could sit in their cabin for a week, post nothing, and vlog nothing and that would be totally OK. That’s not how marketing, public relations, advertising and promoting works.

This. We'd give you a free trip, but it might cause you to see Jen in the wild. 🤣

I think the Viking clientele isn't all rich folks, but folks who've made money and it's just where they are in life, the money's not WHO they are.
