So I happened to watch the halftime show. Don't get me wrong, I think she is a talented vocalist. The overall visuals were great.

But I just don't understand at all why some are calling her the 'undeniable Queen of pop' or 'the performer of a lifetime' etc etc. I think the costumes and huge amount of dancers made it look impressive, but Beyonce herself I found quite weak with the choreography. Blue was clearly very nervous and the time she was on screen I felt sorry for her, she looked terrified of messing up.

The music itself I also found catchy at best but cringeworthy at worst - I just can't wrap my head around the self-indulgent re-write of Jolene. I thought Jay-Z did cheat on her and admitted to it? So is the Jolene re-write a fantasy in which that doesn't happen?

I will say I know I am not Beyonce's target audience and maybe it just isn't 'for me'. But goodness, I just don't understand her and her music being put on some 'greatest of all time' pedestal.

Still out as a united force.

I thought wow, I had no idea Blue Ivy was an adult now. She's 12.

I can't believe she's only 12 that's insane. Why would you push your daughter to look even more grown up? It's all so weird

Beyonce grew up religious and middle class, big detached house etc. It was all pagents and talent shows. She's always loved Jays rough Bronx bad boy persona and getting to cosplay a gangsters moll in those duets and that joint album they did. It's all so far from the sheltered way she actually grew up.

I think she'll 100% dump him- not cos she'll believe it but cos she's too protective of her legacy and reputation to let this sully her. Blue is her big project now. Door will swing wide open for her whatever she does in the future and she'll orchestrate her career like her mum did with her. I can’t stand her mother. All this 'Miss Tina' stuff and thinking she's a star in her own right cos she gave birth to Beyonce. It's so cringe but I blame the super fans for blowing so much smoke up her arse.

I think Blues dress was beautiful- it's a red carpet premiere, she's hardly gonna wear a t-shirt dress. It was a princess gown not a sexy dress. It's just being read as inappropriate cos she looks older than she is and is clearly going through an early puberty. I feel creepy even writing that but I think the scrutiny is unfair. Having a visible bust shouldn't mean she has to skulk round in something baggy.

In that GQ interview Beyonce claimed being onstage with her was something Blue pushed for and I'm not suprised she's let her start so young cos she did herself. She won't have a reference frame for normality. Destiny's Child were a thing for her from 14. She was always gonna have an 'artist' child especially since she's been blessed with her mothers looks and not her dads.

I think she'll publicly dump him but continue to have a relationship with him secretly. It's that us against the world ethos their songs have always mythologised.

I get the impression they let Blue do whatever she wants. In Beyoncé’s film last year she said Blue asked if she could join her on stage and B said no but Blue persuaded her. A parent saying no should mean no, not no until you beg them to say yes

Blue’s obviously chosen this dress and heavy make up which imo isn’t age appropriate and they’ve agreed to it again. She’ll grow up to be a monster

and as for the Grammy win he paid for votes so beynoncey would win, that album was shit, bey doesn’t have the star power she once did!
I just struggle to understand what makes her stand out from any other 'star of the time'. I can't see anything she's done that could be considered revolutionary or that she spearheaded.

The 'Cultural Impact of Beyonce' Wikipedia page for instance... apparently she 'revived the music video as an art form' and 'is single handedly keeping the art of the music video alive'. Madonna and Michael Jackson were certainly making iconic ones far before her, and I'd argue Lady Gaga and Rihanna were producing them at Beyonce's heyday. They certainly haven't died since then. The idea that she's somehow revolutionary for combining/switching genres - she's not even the only contemporary star to do that, Taylor Swift does.

I understand people finding her music appealing, perhaps looking up to her as a beautiful black woman, etc. But I find her in all ways just an average popstar of our time.

I start from a position of #believeher so i believe the allegations about Jay but I'm a big fan of Beyonce so maybe this thread isn't for me. That doesn't mean I applaud every single decision she makes though, the criticism about Blue being pushed into the limelight to take up the baton when she retires is entirely valid. Its like the family firm now innit fame. All these nepo kids foisted on us.

To answer a question upthread about why she rewrote the lyrics to Jolene- it's a big iconic country song, you can't really think country without Jolene unless you're massively steeped in the genre so it's a modern take where the protagonist is warning her rival rather than begging. She also didn't claim any songwriting credits on it despite doing a whole new arrangement, new verse for the male voices at the end etc- Dolly is listed as the sole songwriter so all the royalties go only to Dolly which is a nice touch. Giving her her flowers.

And yeh the expectation that women over 40 who are at the peek of their careers and creativity should dial it down and start wearing slacks is a load of misogo guff that can get in the bin.

When ppl say her name is connected to being the unnamed celeb there at the rape, they mean gossip online. She hasn't been named in any statement. It's not clear if she was even dating Jay Z at that point. You don't have to be fan to reject a woman being tarred with the crimes of a man.

Stray pubes. I've always though he is so ugly. What on earth did she see in him.
I think there could be a psychological factor because he started grooming her when she was so young. Falling in love when you're 15 or thereabouts is so intense. Even without added factor of how he was able to make himself central to her work life, her money and who she hung around with, so it'd be easy for him to shape her mind.

She's an adult now and has the option to walk away, but she's meant to be seriously unintelligent, and personally I think she's too far down that road of murky celebrity to turn back. If she's the kind of person to know her husband is into drugs, rape, preying on children, and even being associated with the killings that went on around Diddy, but she stays with him and then has KIDS with him... she's very far gone.

How tedious a non-event does 'mama tinas' book look. That woman is stinking rich off collabs, advertising and now a big book deal purely on the basis of having a pop star daughter. Sick of seeing her frozen angry half asleep face. These fandoms who treat the mother as an extension of the music need to fuck off. If there was any actual tea spilt in that book Beyonce would never have allowed it to see the light of day.

Blue Ivy being all done up like that is giving JonBenet Ramsey vibes, I find it creepy and sad. Feel sorry for her as if Blue is wanting to be out there like this, good parents would try to protect by saying no. Clearly mum and dad have used all their connections for this hard launch of Blue to even happen and that's disgraceful.

Gone right off Beyonce now, not just this but also the dropping of Carter from her stage name when she's milked it for so long. Makes me think she's pretty duplicitous.

As far as I know Beyonce was 16 when she met Jay so the fact he, who is 12/13 yrs her elder, pursued her when she was a minor is sick anyway 🤢 he totally groomed her.
Blue is gorgeous but she’s so inappropriately dressed for her age.
This photo is supposed to be the first time they met, B being 16 and Jay 28, B told Oprah they were ‘friends’ for a year and half before they went on any dates but they kept in touch on the phone.
To me this just sound like he was waiting until she was legal which is creepy AF 🤢

Does anyone else find it weird how they seem to push Blue into the limelight at every opportunity but you never see their twins?
i’ve always thought this was strange tbh. i feel like we saw blue almost constantly (and she was attending awards shows with them from when she was quite young) but i don’t think i’ve ever even seen a photo of either twin. they’re 7 or 8 now aren’t they? it’s so weird to be so open to share your oldest child but then not the younger two (unless they regret doing that with blue).

Do we know when the rape of the young girl allegedly happened? Could it be that Solange heard about it and it's why she kicked the crap out of him in the lift, around 2014?
The rape allegedly took place in 2000

I think Solange likely beat him up because he cheated on Beyoncé
