I’ve always stood by I think Jay would have been howling at the carry on

Bloody hell R Debs has had me in bits watching this. I’m not a cryer at all and I was sobbing. Being a mum it hits different. My heart broke for them all. I did think they came across well. Still think Ayub and Rocky are guilty as sin of something.
I think they are too.

I think if this was my son, and all the social media conspiracy theorists were saying we hadn't buried him, that he was still out there somewhere and the body in the ground was a random person - I think i would want to clear it up too. Maybe this was the best way they knew how? It's clearly still an issue, Debbie has her MP involved. I dunno, they seem like decent parents.

I think they went through something no parents should ever go through, and they probably did make big mistakes throughout the search. It was a frenzy, absolute wild times!! The documentary seemed to just try and put the conspiracies to bed, nothing new came out of it. I don't think it will stop it though, it's just started the speculation all over again 🫣

I wish they'd interviewed Lucy and Brad for the programme, so we could have heard why Lucy immediately started the GoFundme when Jay went missing

How Channel 4 thought this was worth 1hr 20 mins is a mystery. There was no new information, nothing was explained and the only interesting part about the case was the social media frenzy, not the case itself. There was no analysis of the evidence and it was all so badly presented, it was not possible for someone to come to a measured and reasonable conclusion. Perhaps that was not the point. Who made this? A bunch of first year media studies students with no experience, following a YouTube video on how to make a video.

There was no comment at all regarding the "I am not going to make it" text. To me, it sounded like Jay was telling his mate he wasn't going to make their lunchtime planned meet up, not that he wasn't going to make it on planet earth. Would a 19 year old kid describe his imminent death as "not making it"? If he was lost, dehydrated and thought he was close to death with some battery remaining, he would have still asked for help. IMO, of course.

I thought the dad and brother came across as genuine. If you didn't know the parents were separated before the programme, you wouldn't know afterwards (unless I missed that bit)?

The mortuary scenes were a bit unnecessary but we only saw a specimen jar waved about, not slices of human liver. The body bag wasn't the shape of an intact body (IMO). Of course the pathologist could not tell if Jay fell or was pushed. Science can only reveal so much. In the absence of evidence his upper arms where grabbed or signs of a scuffle at the top (both of which would be long gone by the time he was found), I am not sure what else could give a clear indication of a second party at the scene after all that time.

Keeping the items that your son had decayed in, in a box in your garage was odd. I dare say someone gave them a bit of a clean up before they were handed over. The dad seemed annoyed that he wasn't allowed to bury Jay in the items; that idea seemed to have been blocked, presumably by the mother.

I cannot make up my mind about the mother. Her comments along the lines of "kids will be kids" (I am paraphrasing) when told of the toxicology results showing c etc. did not seem as though she was shocked. That portion played out as a reconstruction for the camera so I am not sure if her real reaction was thus.

Really it was a pointless time filler of a programme that added nothing to the story.

RIP Jay - poor kid.

Excellent post.

The c part would come as no surprise considering there were empty drugs bags left on people's graves surrounding Jay's after his spectacle of a funeral. His swanky mates couldn't even wait till he was in the ground before sniffing the gear.

I’ve just finished watching it and despite everything that went on at the time I couldn’t help but get emosh. Regardless of it all he was 19 years old and his parents lost their young son.

I think the autopsy was maybe to put the rumours to bed about it not being him? But I agree I felt it was a bit much and didn’t feel I needed to see it.

It did make me change my opinion of Lucy slightly, you could see on the last text messages she was telling him it was a bad idea to go back with those lads; she obviously cared about it him. Not keen on the fact she didn’t attend the inquest but maybe it was too difficult for her to relive or she was worried because of all the back lash she had.

I agree though we didn’t find out much more

So is everyone now liking dayglo-nails Debbie 😱
I feel for her losing her son but I still don’t like her. Whilst it can’t be very nice hearing/seeing all the conspiracy theories. I do think their behaviour in the beginning added fuel to the fire. First of all the GFM was nothing to do with them, then it was for accommodation & food. All his ‘friends’ came out to ‘search for him’ but sadly they all seem to get waylaid by the local bars showing the Euros.

I have a couple of mates where I could see this issue occurring...set off with good intentions then 'oh, England are just kicking off, lets nip in for one'...several pints later...'who are we looking for' :ROFLMAO:

I was a wreck head when I was late teens. Now I’m in bed for 9 most nights, and go to a pub about twice a year. Can see how he’s been on one and it’s ended badly. How the hell i didn’t get in more trouble I’ll never know. Lucky I guess. And didn’t go abroad 😂BUT still think there’s tit loads more to this sort saga than we will ever know 🤦🏽‍♀️

When it was all going on it seemed that Debbie overruled Warren, he made a comment about it when asked a question on camera, but I can't remember his exact words.

Jay seemed very much to be Debbie's golden child. I thought Debbie's current husband went to Tenerife with her initially, but in the documentary, she said her brother (Uncle Glen?) flew out with her.

Unfortunately I know people who have 2 kids and one is clearly the favourite and it seemed like that with Jay.

I watched this yesterday, with Mr Staple who hadn’t a clue about most of it and then I spent some time trying to explain to someone who can barely function their phone about my pals on the internet and salad, cacti, Rolexes, DARREN ADMIN etc whilst he was looking confused and very much “are you ok” and also “please can you stop pausing the program to tell me about Forever Young and #spon funeral outfits”

Anyway. My thoughts.

I do think showing his outfit was a good idea as it confirmed that it was him for the weirdo conspiracists, however he could have just been sat on a sofa and showing it, pulling it out a dusty box in the garage, that seemed weird.

Autopsy stuff was unnecessary. We didn’t need any of the content in the room, could have just had some talking heads stuff from the pathologist.

There was a lot of brushing off things with the GFM and machete stuff that didn’t make sense, and also the drugs being brushed off too. The latter two aren’t just “things that the young ones do”, he clearly fell in right at the top of the wrongun pile.
