I doubt it was because they "couldn't be arsed". It's clear from the documentary that Jay's friends did care about him - Lucy's messages became more and more frantic, and she rang the police to try and get help for him. I suspect it was more because of the hassle they got online.

Just watched the documentary. At the moment, there's a lot of rhetoric about mainstream media becoming less relevant and dying off as it is outpaced by social media. These sorts of documentaries clap back at that idea by showing that it can get access to authority - the eminent pathologist, the coroner, the police etc. Showing some of the brutal detail of the autopsy was part of that - 'look we were THERE. Not like you internet numpties'.

Just my Saturday evening thoughts 🍷It was touching to see his mum packed after sun for him - made me think of all the thousands of little acts of care we do for our kids to try to keep them safe.

Saw a video with someone raising how the “Listen, I’m not going to make it” last Snapchat message to Brad was completely different in grammar, language and punctuation to all previous messages.
They have a point.

That's why I wonder if it was something he was trying to dictate, like when you get Google to type out what you say. I don't know if you can do that with Snapchat.

I didn't think the text we saw on TV was the original one. He wouldn't have used a comma for starters.

Apparently, you can according to Google.
Yes, you can dictate messages on Snapchat by using your phone's built-in dictation feature for text, or by sending voice notes by holding the record button. You can also use dictation to reply to messages on your Apple Watch if you have the Snapchat app installed

Thank you. I'm doing more voice notes on WhatsApp now as it's just easier and quicker especially when I'm walking. I guess Jay did the same thing and didn't finish the message because he fell.. That's horribly sad.

I've got to say, mocking Debbie after watching that documentary is quite something.

I don't think anybody on this thread watched the documentary then 'mocked' her. Yeah some people have said they still can't take to her, some people still don't particularly like her, but nobody is mocking her. It was a sad watch, and the family are understandably heartbroken.

Saying the fundraiser served her well is a bit, IMO. I don't think anyone needs to like her, but I'm sure she'd much rather have her child back than all that money. I have no idea what it all went on but I can't find myself caring as it isn't like the family were pleading poverty a la Jack Monroe.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why would Jay send that 'I'm not gonna make it' message? Why not ask for help, say where he was or that he was trapped and couldn't get down or whatever?
The message must have been sent before he fell as the x-ray of his head injury was horrific, there was no way the message was sent after he fell.

Just started watching this, only about 15 minutes in but his family come across quite well and Jay just reminds me of my little brother who is a similar age, a bit silly but just a young lad living his life and wanting to have a good time. I feel for them.

I was one of the people who watched the silly tik tok armchair detectives, I was genuinely just intrigued and really hoped he would show up safe and well, just took himself away on some mad bender. I wonder do any of those people who did make conspiracy videos actually watch their stuff back and cringe with the stuff they came out with at the time? Nicola Bulley was another one.

They could have had plans and he was saying "I'm not going to make it ... In time for breakfast? The boat trip?" Or "... Back by myself, can you please call me a taxi" as he didn't have sufficient battery to do so himself perhaps.

I don't think the armchair detectives have enough self awareness to feel embarrassed.

I think it was said in the documentary, he left the villa saying he was leaving because he had plans with his mates. I dont believe the narrative of he sent that message because he thought he was in trouble, more he thought it journey back was going to take too long/he'll need to sleep when he got back so he won't be able to meet them for whatever was planned.

That makes sense. And makes it even more sad. Although I am glad that he had no idea what was going to happen to him, and hopefully had little, if any, time to be frightened.

He had the misfortune to go missing shortly after Dr Michael Moseley as well, which is like going missing after Jesus really: nobody is going to match up.
This made me chuckle alot! which in essence is what the threads were mostly about, finding humour in the ridiculous nonsense that was circulating at the time. Obviously a live Jay would've been preferable to what was ultimately a very sad outcome.

Also I followed the John George thread & it too involved absolutely insane levels of crazy behaviour.

That was one insane thread :ROFLMAO: it was highly disappointing that it was closed down.
The characters that were amusing in this thread, DTR, Darren and the postings on the FB group were of a more nutty but lighthearted nature...haribo anyone ...
Some of the stuff in the JG thread from that cast were sinister.

Yeah a lad his age wouldn't word it like "I'm not going to make it", it would be more like "mate, I'm lost, I'm going to bleeping die up here".

Its some comfort that at least he didn't have that thought.

Oh they're still sticking to their theories. I've seen one guy saying that the body wasn't Jay's, and his dad knows that. He's saying the clothes that the dad has in the box conveniently don't have blood on them. And goes into a 3 minute analysis of why it wasn't Jay 🙄
