Yeah, we are looking within her community and I have hope. I just can't see how he could've worked there, it's not like the 1950s where maybe he could've swept the floor, made tea, humped boxes around.
If she can get on a free level 1 maths course it would really help with learning numbers and English. Lots of well educated but non-native speakers do it round here.

He completely ignored Angela (who carried him through his degree) on the way to the 15.08 to Clapham Junction at which time Angela left to get a different irrelevant train to somewhere irrelevant and he got on a tube to Morden, because he was newly fixated on a SPITE PhD even tho he didn’t know what one was.

In ‘the world according to Jase’, it’s clear (justifiably) everyone else thought she was a right insufferable bleep, so you can’t feel too badly for her that she got saddled with him. View attachment 4095106
'The receiving end of her serrated tongue...' I know I am repeating myself, but if a kid at second level wrote such banal tripe in an essay, they would be told to rewrite it. Did an editor even look at this crap?

How could you do that job if you were illiterate? You couldn’t. you need to read shoe boxes and process receipts. It’s all balls
Don’t worry- he has it covered. He was put on footwear, but luckily that job is where he met Debs whose “uniform caressed her slender frame”, who giggled and “laughed endearingly” and she did it all for him, while keeping his secret from the boss. And selflessly and so stealthily he didn’t even realize it himself, taught him to read.

(And then he gets mugged at the bus stop by the 4 muggers, half of whom later become his students cos they turned their lives around because of him and he becomes the godfather to one of their kids. And gets lifelong severe epilepsy with grand mal seizures and TIA due to being mugged.)

@Valiofthedolls as keeper of the big book of WTF,can you confirm or deny the existence of any undergrads/pupils/mentee?
Just his salt of the earth Liverpool John Moores students, who he never would have left a mere 13 months after taking the job, had he not been forced to. Because it wasn’t just about them.

Oh and this pair of reformed reprobates in the next paragraph of course. That’s it.

We have tried various things, none have helped. It's less stressful for her at this point to just accept it.

Wow, in this day and age of restorative justice they weren’t allowed to contact him. He might be able to name three facts about eachcleaner pupil but they are the usual NPC in the Jason show aren't they.

His "life story" reminds me very strongly of Jack Monroe.

I watched that video of him being interviewed by Krishnan Guru-Murthy and his speech reminded me of someone, but I couldn't think who. I've got it now, it's David Brent. He even veers into a West Country accent in places.

So much of it is so unbelievably Jack Monroe coded it’s ridiculous.

Jack
who during THE POVERTY had sold all her worldly possessions so had to caveat she watched the news not in her dark, damp empty hovel, but “on someone else’s tv you understand

combines with Jack popping up here pretending to be her own reindeer taxi driver bestowing gifts unto the needy

To give:
Teenage schoolboy truant Jase who selflessly gave his 6 hours a day during the schoolday snooker shark habit winnings to his brothers, but as he was still unable to read or write at all, he couldn’t understand the numbers, so just gave his brothers the biggest notes, hoping they were the most valuable.

She allegedly taught him to read by tricking him into thinking he was helping her learn how to teach phonics to others?

And like Jenny to his Forrest Gump she's so enamoured by an illiterate adult male who doesn't realise he's being tricked into learning to read that she invites him up to her bedroom to see her giant industrial sized tub of hair gel?

His voice still hadn’t broken at 18? 🤔
Have only just remembered that he claims when he was ‘about five’ that doctors discovered he was ‘profoundly deaf’ in one ear too
IMG_2785.jpeg
(and this didn’t magically resolve, because he mentions his ‘good ear’ as an adult many years later in the book, in relation to yet another unbelievable ailment- the brain tumor that caused the memory loss right before his viva)

Just like Forrest Gump.

Luckily for Debs, immediately before they got to Forest Gump, Giff taught her sons other important life lessons via the medium of her big tv. And he never forgot it.

Forrest Gump is the story of the turbulent American 60s and 70s, through the lens of a simple man. It's not meant to be a story of hope for people with low IQs. Not surprised that Arday focuses on the wrong thing entirely.

Meanwhile, Jolyon appears to be losing the plot and is making a holy show of himself over on X (what a surprise, he is normally so level-headed 😂):

He first met Debs at the Sports World job. So how were his wages at Sports World being paid if he didn't have a bank account before she helped him set one up? In the 2000s it seems unlikely that businesses employing a number of staff would be paying cash in hand.
Wrong! In the 2000s chain sports shops* with multiple branches and multiple employees per branch all seemingly paid their employees a crisp £5 note cash in hand.

His Ma did it all for him. She’d gone to the job center (in Clapham Old Town) and him and Giff ‘agreed’ he’d be AMAZING at it as long as he only had to do some parts of the job but not others, and only the days and hours that suited him and his full-time studies for the BTEC with Sandro he’d just started.

(The part-time job itself was in a shopping center a short tube ride away in Colliers Wood and sold the biggest sports brands ‘such as’ Nike, Reebok and Adidas.)View attachment 4095088 View attachment 4095089
Reminds me of Denzel from Only Fools and Horses when he goes on the doll after being made redundant:

“… the wages are lousy but the hours suit me fine.”

I had a couple of shop jobs and a bar job in the 00s (not all at once, I’m not Jason) that all paid cash weekly. Still remember the little brown envelope it came in.

Reading the extracts, I do believe he was neurodivergent. There’s something about his inability to see beyond himself and the inexplicable extraneous details which all reads as selfish and self centred but is part of his make up.

And I know I’ve said before about confabulation and neurodivergence and therefore his grandiose lies genuinely not being a malicious lies in his own mind, but having a daughter with potential FASD, of which confabulation can be an element, it’s what I see, rather than narcissism.

I do also wonder if his neurodivergence is actually how he managed to get so far- he always had someone supporting him through everything, be it Sandro, Giff, Deb, support assistants. Rather than a lowering of standards and expectations because of his race, it was because of his additional needs.
