Well that’s all well and good. BUT! would you be able to talk with people instead of talking at peoplepeople by using your special head-clock to wrap up your talks after no more than 20 minutes tho?

It sounds as if it took a ridiculously long time to get to publishable standard with the assistance of a ghostwriter - and we’ve all seen the utter claptrap that was actually published. A tiny part of me wonders if he tried to drag it out as long as he could to get out of it, but then the rest of me thinks he was such a narcissist who adored talking about himself and actually believed most of his own bull that he didn’t think the book would be an issue. The full gushing Acknowledgements section and that stupid bleeping “playlist” are evidence enough of that.

I wonder if the book deal will be mentioned at the inquest? I imagine that type of contract would have been a lot harder to cancel/get out of, particularly if he'd already spent whatever advance he received and was then out of a job.

Thousands of books would already be printed ready to be sold. Granted books can be pulped but that's embarrassing for all concerned. I wonder why they released it in the US first? Testing the waters??

But before he even knew about that (and seemingly starting right after the THE contacted him and he set the police and Carter Ruck on Jack Grove), Arday was desperately trying to get evidence of his own lies removed from the internet.

This dude from Greenbelt literally documents it happening- and that he did what Arday asked. Looks like this timeline might tie into the Guardian researching their article that was published on Aug 1?

He was a public figure, but he was hardly up there with say, Idris Elba, who would possibly command that much for an autobiography. He never actually specified the currency, just that he got a “1.4 million advance”. If he’d got a quid for every time he said this he’d have first and foremost been a multimillionaire tho

ETA: When he was a lecturer at Roehampton, he had…an Ohio State tshirt. You can see how someone could very easily confuse that with being a Visiting Professor in their Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

There is no chance whatsoever that it’s true. He wasn’t especially well known until the tit hit the fan.
For comparison, Boris Johnson allegedly got £1-1.5 million advance for his autobiography in 2023; no publishers would give a relatively unknown professor £1.4 million for a book that would likely see only modest sales figures at best (obviously, interest in the book has skyrocketed since then!)

Can't have the House of Cards falling down and exposing how dumbed down the entire education system has become, especially with the huge amount of money in the industry now. I'd bet my life savings that the Cambridge 'investigation' will be a whitewash, with a token 'lesson to be learnt'. Years ago I was told by an old-ish science lab tech that some of the stuff they did at A-level wasn't even done for BSc any more. One of our science exam papers was actually identical to the mock, just with the numbers changed! I've also seen O-level papers from the '70s that were harder than A-levels from 2000.

House of Cards also goes for all the narc grifters who are shouting loudest - same thing as the attacks against Tattle. It's like dodgy tradesmen complaining that Watchdog is bullying them...



I think he could have had some success with a podcast. He could word salad* for long enough, and there's no end of other grifters available for guests.


*He probably could have claimed a language degree too, because I have no idea what half of what he said in his talks actually meant. (Or maybe it's just because I'm not a sociologist...)

Have you seen science papers recently? I did A Level Maths, Chem and Bio (in the 90s) and so did my DD (last year). Whoa there the current papers are much much harder! Yes, in some subjects they now get the formula given to them whereas we had to learn them aside from that they are challenging! DD has found they’ve re-covered much of the material in first year at uni so I would definitely have to disagree with some of your statement based on our experience.

The best support they can give is to tell all academics to not be lying liars and if you court fame be aware it always bites you in the a.

This is a good article. It points out there can be many motives for a suicide - in contrast to the news that Cambridge will look at 'excessive' journalism about the story but what about the rest of it?

Just like Joey from friends to make you look clever.

*Maybe have a little look at the meanings of the words while you’re at it. That way, you’ll also avoid being the sort of Cambridge Professorial Chair who goes on national TV news in the to tell the nation all about the vista that you’re on.
