How can we ever trust the Guardian when they’ve bankrolled her for ten years? They’ve never printed a retraction for their article saying she was suing Lee.

The belief that left = good; right = bad has become a total nonsense in British mainstream media.

And I’ve never voted for any party but Labour my whole life.

I’m pissed off about the whole bad mentals thing too. You don’t become immune to criticism because you’ve got poor mental health.

But will Sharron still be regurgitating this story in ten years' time? Somehow I doubt it. People who are actually living the circumstances Jack claims to have been aren't given a continuing paid platform by national media outlets.
Precisely so. Sharron writes about getting back into work and yet still worrying about the after-effects of being on benefits. From what she's written for the Graun, she's a grafter, not a grifter.

There's much to criticise the Guardian for, not least their platforming of one J.Monroe, but they are doing something, however little or inadequate, to tell the stories behind poverty in the UK.

Frauen und herren, it appears that we now have proof from questioning squig that Ninja have confirmed that pouring hot water into their appliance as recommended by guest is not good a good idea.

Is there any formal guidance on how the media should manage valid criticism of or reporting on people with mental health issues? The current situation seems to be that everyone just steers clear in case they’re accused of triggering the individual involved. The evidence for investigating and reporting seems overwhelming yet no one is grasping the nettle.

The "bad mentals" thing is tricky for the press, more so since there've been deaths related to being hounded by the tabloids and we're in the post-Levinson, phone hacking era.

However, you're completely correct to say that it shouldn't be a convenient get-out for people facing scrutiny for wrongdoing. (Even David Walliams is claiming bad mentals after being booted off the talent show and they were paying him ££££££.)

Ultimately, reporters and editors need to be careful about how they engage with people and tabloid tactics are problematic on all sorts of levels but they shouldn't avoid covering people who've done something illegal. There are ways to strike a balance between hounding somebody and not doing the story at all.

The air fryer she put the rice in was a tefal one, not a ninja #forensic. I’m sure the same general principle applies though

Yes.

Contacting said person and/or their representatives (agents etc) and putting questions to them about crimes and bad behaviour is fine. If they refuse to reply, just state this in the piece. For a story to stand up, there should be confirmation of misdeeds from a variety of sources so reporters need to do investigative digging using research techniques, interviews, documents etc etc. Right of reply should be offered but can also be declined by the subject (whether or not they have bad mentals).

Hounding people physically or online, phone-tappping, honey trapping etc not okay.

A Monroe-esquely garbled sentence there, but it differs from her output in that the meaning is actually clear- don’t try to air fry water, it will most likely duck up your air fryer, which really isn’t designed to fry bleeping water, DUUUUUURRRRRRRRRR

Re BiB: IMO the same applies to gender and the politicisation of that. more recently I've moved off the fence and in some ways become what some might call GC, but i think i'd easier accept being called a TERF than being called right wing for refusing to believe a man should have access to women's services and support because he identifies as a woman. i appreciate there are many on here who would disagree with my views, and that's fine too.

What is perhaps most perplexing is she uses the Foodi 11-in-1 to bake the "whirlybuns" when that device actually has modes to cook rice (steam or pressure cook). Make it make sense.

I think I am enjoying this cancellation more than a big expose. She was never famous enough for the National press. Instead every single time she tries to think she’s gotten away with it and everyone’s forgotten she will put her head above the parapet and get knocked back down again.
The best thing she can hope for now is to ride the patreon gravy train for as long as she can. A normal person might use that money to start trying to find another job and get some qualifications….
