OT question, sorry, but your mention of chocolate reminded me. I normally add a load of advent calendars to my foodbank donation around this time of year. Just because I still get a thrill from an advent calendar so I figure who wouldn't, but is chocolate/that sort of thing not so helpful. I thought it was a nice thing, but am worried I am being a patronising dick now.

ETA: ah, sorry, seen asked and answered already.

Can you imagine returning home from a long and stressful day at work?

L "What's for dinner hun?"

J "Spaghetti bolognese."

L "Oh, lovely. Freshly made spaghetti?"

J "Nah. I rinsed a tin of hoops, with a tin of mince on top. I added herbs and ketchup to zing it up a bit"

L "I'm just off for a bike ride, back in a bit" under her breath "chippy on the way home"

I still think it weird that she named a dish for Allegra, Come to Bed Carbonara and for Louisa, Come To Bed Parmigiana you’d think Jack with her mAvErIcK brain would be a little more imaginative
If id eaten all those carbs I would want to go to bed, to sleep it off! Not for any sexual purposes

I took this as a sign of narcissism/BPD. Meghan Markle had a cat called Archie. Mrs. Jack is whoever Jack's current victim is. To a narcissist, they are not individuals - just an adjunct.

We've always given advent calendars and selection boxes for the children, our local food bank have stressed that they want lots of treat foods this xmas. Family sharing biscuit boxes are a good option too. I always include some free from products too because they are often in very short supply/quite pricey and a lot of children have dairy or gluten intolerances. I think it's just best to ask what they need as they can run short of certain items but be over stocked on others.

I feel really lazy but I just donate money to the local food bank. I never have any time to do food shopping so do that online as well.

Did Megan Markle name her child after her cat? I read that it's an anagram of her real name Rachel.

I agree with your Mrs J theory. I also think it's a bit disturbing that it took Louisa a month to say she didn't like pasta. That makes Jack sound like the controlling bully we know she is.

I'm so glad we are on a bit of Foodbank chat. Popped into my local this morning with loo rolls in amongst it and some body washes and stuff. Mainly because they are often neglected items on the Foodbank list as we've all talked about before.

Don't know if you Fraus remember that Foodbank I visited in Cornwall for a TV project that didn't make it past development (the story I was told about the lady would couldn't afford sanitary towels so was stealing loo roll). But they just appeared on the Simon Reeve Cornwall show. It's on iPlayer now. Donations have started to flood in. Honestly stuff like this makes my heart burst out of my chest.

The irony of her going on and on (and on) about soap, when she has the grimiest nails in Southend.

Honestly, this is the best option and foodbanks really appreciate it. Getting chocolate is great and people love it but last Christmas we were bundling clients out of the door with like three selection boxes each plus all of their food. Getting money donations allows them to buy crates of stuff which people don’t generally think to give - pet food, UHT milk, nappies, etc etc.

I’m currently working with a charity who, outside of their usual remit, are distributing food parcels at the mo and some of the stuff they have donated is wild: whole wheels of cheese, literal buckets of mozzarella, kombucha, McDonalds sauces, mad seafood, veg like celeriac which a lot of people simply don’t know what to do with. It makes for some super fancy (and also oddly matched) boxes, but honestly people just want simple, filling food and it’s important it can be heated in a microwave IMO as so many people struggle with keeping their meter topped up.

Pissing myself at the commenters to Jack berating her for using toiletries with palm oil: this is the problem that she’s created for herself - she’s spent so long pandering to the middle class Guardianista brigade who can afford to be conscientious in their purchasing habits and worked so hard (for once!) to position herself as one of them that she’s simultaneously expected to Feed The Poors (Let Them Know It’s Christmas Time) and be an ethical buyer. In reality she’s doing neither and I’m enjoying seeing her between a rock and a hard place.

I think it just about sums the nonsense up when you can't decipher whether they are discussing making their own soap, or sharing recipe ideas.

Louisa probably loves pasta. Just not rinsed spaghetti hoops passed off as pasta.
Bet she's not a fussy eater, she just hates Jack's food. It reminds me of Pam in Gavin & Stacey having to pretend to be a vegetarian.

It's a little more subtle than 'Fancy a Fuck Fusilli"..
