Feel like all I do on this thread is bring up Ibz Mo BUT in his latest vid he said people need to stop using the words "state school" to mean "disadvantaged" bc he rightly points out going to a state school in a rich area is a whole different game - I don't know if he's thinking of Jack when he says it but it def reflects some things that have been said here about Jack clinging to his state education as being his last bastion of disadvantage when in fact his particular school was amazing and thus doesn't make the point he wants it to (and why act like you didn't have a great education? Just acknowledge it and say you were lucky!)

He wants to appear as if he's beaten all odds and risen above expectations. I don't know why he can't accept that he has had a good education, had privileges and still does because he has comfortably contemplated life in a free London flat without an immense and urgent obligation to make money. I do wish him well but most studytubers are dying to be The Exception one way or another and it's tiring to watch, which is a shame because I used to enjoy their content.

Weirdly, it goes against his wish to be relatable too. He really needs to pick a lane. You can't be both 'exceptional' and 'ordinary'.

I always get the feeling that Jack is running as fast as he can away from FOMO, by doing everything he can to make his life the one people envy.

I've noticed here and in Carrie Hope Fletchers thread people saying they used to watch but had stopped in recent months/years. I wonder if it's a case of the viewers growing up but the youtubers not

I think it is. Youtubers continuously do the thing that originally got them the following, and instead of growing and developing their content naturally with their audience they keep churning out the old content like beating a dead horse.

Don't know the deal with this Durham stuff and Jack specifically but as a fresher at Durham in one of the 'poshest' colleges I can say for sure that middle class people like Jack have a massive advantage, and find it far easier to fit in.

Also, first gen uni student really means nothing I imagine

He also went to a collegiate uni, accommodation and the experiences are much different, his head is so far up his own arse

I’d love to know how being first gen shaped his uni experience bc as a first gen who’s also from a middle class background I can honestly say my experience has been the same as my peers. It’s a diversity label posh unis use to try and look more inclusive but doesn’t mean a great deal

I didn’t even say anything about him personally, I pasted a comment from here that pointed out how he was incorrect to say x y and that being from the third best state school doesn’t make you disadvantaged as he implicitly implies yawn x bored

Thing is, I don't think anyone really feels comfortable about going to uni because it's such a huge change and everyone experiences it differently so being first gen or second gen or whatever makes little to no difference - the only value in it is really within the family circle. Additionally, I'm simply more likely to consult forums or YouTube videos over a book to see what an actual uni experience is like
