Sorry I meant the people getting called middle aged women, are middle aged women.
And yes I agree that age is irrelevant but if a factual analysis is irrelevant why is “middle aged woman” irrelevant but “trans woman” isn’t. There just seems to be a bit of...not hypocrisy but maybe a bit of a double standard in terminology?
Because the term middle aged woman is being made into a term of abuse ( and even more sadly by other women) It is meant to be a form of ridicule and a justification for dismissing that person's right to an opinion because they are 'middle aged'. The TRa' s have a set view of women and attractiveness ( because they were brought up as men). They, like some misogynistic men funnily enough, see women as visible when they are young, sexual and compliant brings but not when they are middle aged.

Full support for JK all the way here.

seeing all the women in the public eye shaming her for her comments is disgusting. Why are women (famous or not) so willingly helping the downfall of their own gender, and I mean actual born females.

women before us worked so hard and sacrificed so much to be able to get us what we have today and we deserve a say in topics relating to gender issues that will undermine our Needs.

Those in the public eye are absolute cowards. They’re swimming along with the stream because THEY don’t want to face the backlash, they want to be seen as inclusive and woke individuals, preserve their £££ and their status. Media and social media is ruled by progressives. Half of them won’t even have read her essay and make moves to hear both sides of the argument. The only reason JKR can speak out is because she can afford to. She’s right, modern times have never seen such bigoted misogyny that’s actually encouraged.

EDIT: and the women in social media (YouTube, insta influencers etc) actually boil my piss with their I DENOUNCE JKR AND HER TRANSPHOBIC VIEWS TEE HEE / TRANS WOMEN ARE WOMEN without even discussing why she’s apparently transphobic and both sides of the argument/whythere are objections the the “trans women are women“ rhetoric. If it’s the obvious ethical conclusion, you should have no problems in explaining it, should you.

What’s happened to Germaine Greer? Has she been deplatformed for saying similar things years ago?

I bet gay men arent being called transphobic for not wanting to sleep with them either.
We are (but not half of the abuse women get though).

I think I read somewhere she was and she tried to say sorry but at that point she was outcasted

Hang on though, why is middle aged woman (which is exactly what these people are) a term of abuse but “trans woman” as we discussed earlier isn’t?
I agree with everyone who says you’re being obtuse here. Context is everything.

“Middle aged woman” is almost always used as an insult (and not a mere descriptor as you’re suggesting) and is the perfect juxtaposition of ageism and sexism. It’s a double insult.

Ahh Karen, just another insulting nugget in the big pile of misogynistic slurs that only women seem to attract including harpy, biddy, spinster, witch, crone, hag, witch, fishwife, nag, cow, mare etc etc etc.

The younger ladies of today will be the hags and spinsters of tomorrow, and will undoubtably have a couple more new insults de jour added as well.

I want JK Rowling to keep writing as she’s bringing so much attention and scrutiny to the taliban-in-spirit mob that seems intent on erasing women, girls and Karens alike from public life. The crazy thing is, you really can’t absurdum ad reductio the mob’s arguments, the absurd is their argument such as gender-based blasphemy laws, erasure of female anatomy from science and so on.

I don't object to being called a middle aged woman because I accept that I am a middle aged woman. Of course it generally means that you are then seen as 'past your sell by date' and young people like to think that it makes you irrelevant, BUT I laugh to myself knowing that one day they will be middle aged and will face the same discrimination.😁

I do object to being called a Karen which is a nasty term of abuse and see no reason why I should refer to myself as CIS.

Mainly I just see myself as a woman who is appalled at the current lack of tolerance for anyone who doesn't fall in line with the mob.
But again I laugh because I know that this toxic cancel culture will bite these people on the a in the future 😁

I’ve been called a middle aged woman online before. The funny thing is I’m not even close to middle age! They couldn’t have possibly known my age so it was definitely used as an insult In this particular context, “Oh you have such and such views, you’re just a middle aged woman anyway so sit down and shut up”. It is as if being middle aged somehow makes your views less valid, so they throw it out there in the hopes they are correct and it shuts you up. It’s a bit like how the word ‘cow‘ on its own isn’t an insult, ‘witch‘ is also a term for a female dog but these terms are certainly used as insults towards women.

It's also ridiculous to suggest that someone's views are not worthwhile because they've been longer on this earth. Erm, surely life experience counts? JK has said that this is the most misogynistic era she has lived through, so instead of using "middle age" as a stick to beat her with, I wish her detractors, especially the younger woke women, would think "okay, maybe I should listen to what she's saying"

@Doc you're fully correct that half of them won't even have read her essay. In fact, I remember around the time it was published TRAs were actively encouraging people not to read it. The equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears "la la I can't hear you". They don't want any debate in this

There seems to have been a shift in the waters with the media, maybe they are sick of the trans lobby bullying. I hope she wins!

I know it’s not JKR related, but I’m glad to see the outrage in the comments on this. I’m not a fan of this third rate band, but to bring racism (and the death of George Floyd in particular) into it is bleeping low.

It is a strawman and it comes up again and again.

Again, this idea that we’re going to have to enforce “genital checks” in order to admit people to the correct bathroom is a strawman. It assumes that it isn’t possible to tell someone’s sex without it. People like Blaire White are outliers because Blaire has had a ton of facial feminisation surgery (still has 🍆 though). I don’t believe Blaire’s voice sounds female either.

For the 99.9% of trans women who are unable to change their features in that way, there’s no ambiguity and certainly no need for genital checks.
Blaire White doesn’t pass, the mannerisms and language are that of a camp gay man, and in real life has wide shoulders and other manly features. (This is shown in unposed photos that other people have taken from a distance). Not to mention the obvious plastic surgery.
The only comfort I would get from sharing a loo with Blair is that at least she’s trying, and is obviously not sexually interested in women.

Sadly I doubt she will win. This is rife in academia at the moment. If interested, would recommend looking up Dr Kathleen Stock at Sussex and Dr Louise Moody, previously at York as an honorary researcher...I say ‘previously’ as her ~ TERF views resulted in a complaint to the university. The university response was to then abolish the category of honorary researcher seemingly just to get rid of her entirely.

I would hate my kid to go to university. It’s not about learning critical thinking and expanding knowledge and expertise any more. They’re literally training camps for an identity-political, Marxist hive mind.
