Yes you're right and i certainly wasn't saying that eating disorders aren't real. Sadly kids do succumb easily to peer group pressure so if they see other kids starving themselves to be thin it can start them off on the slippery slope to developing an eating disorder.

I believe that is what's going on now with the gender identity crisis. Some (not all of course) are being influenced by seeing others do it and if they are confused, they think that perhaps they should change sex too.

How right you are, thank goodness your daughter has a sensible mother.
Agreed I wasn’t disagreeing just adding to your point🙏
This was actually a thing online a few years back when I was late teens/early 20s, where people would make accounts on Tumblr and other SM sites promoting eating disorders and malnourished bodies. They would post “progress” pictures of their weight loss, akin to the ones people on diets like SW and WW would do. They called it “thinspiration.”
Now that you mention it I do remember hearing about ‘ana’ and ‘Mia’ (anorexia and bulimia) forums that were exactly how you described. Actually forgot that was a thing I remember them talking about it on newsround about the dangers or something when I was in my early teens.
My favourite JK take so far is that she is racist against Irish people because the character Seamus blows up stuff in the film, and this is a reference to an IRA. People genuinely believe this.
The only ‘explosion’ I can think of involving Seamus (been a while since I’ve read/watched hp) is that scene where Seamus is trying to turn water into rum and obviously it goes wrong because he’s a clumsy/ballsy first year trying to turn water into rum before he’s even learnt the basics not because he’s Irish🤷🏻‍♀️😂

There are far, far more problematic people on twitter than JKR. Like the ones threatening to grape and beat her, or the ones posting porn in replies to Children’s drawings that have been submitted to JKR for the Ickabog.

literally why I can’t add anything to this thread or conversation. Because I’ve read nothing about what she’s saying, I keep seeing retweets and people I follow calling her out, I don’t see anyone supporting her on my time line, and I dislike her so soooooo much myself I immediately think she’s wrong in everything she says because she has a history of just being a bit of a witch 😐

makes me think with everything on line, does it make a difference if the person who’s started the conversation is liked or disliked 😐 like if it was Katie Hopkins she’s immediately “wrong” (when she had a platform that is)
JK has always been problematic on twitter, in my opinion. She comes across like someone who enjoys being controversial.

I really am adding nothing here 🤣😂
I should at least know what’s going on before commenting.

but I will add.
JK as a celebrity, exhausting 😐
What is happening here is actually a pretty big deal to many women, and has been for a while. This situation is much, much bigger than JK - she’s just speaking out very loudly because she’s in a position to do so without losing much, unlike the many “normal” women who have spoken up and lost their jobs, been doxxed, had their children threatened (what was said to Posie Parker about wishing her kids got Coronavirus and suffered the same fate as James Bulger - how ANYONE can excuse that is baffling and deplorable).

If you’re only getting information from people calling her out on Twitter then you’re definitely not getting the facts.

Fair enough if you don’t like her - I didn’t like her until recently, although not for the same reasons as you - I don’t think she’s “problematic” at all, I just thought Harry Potter is the most overrated pile of crap in the universe and can’t stand anyone who defines their personality by being obsessed with which house they’re in or banging on about it.
Her being the creator of it all somewhat attracted my ire.

I’d suggest you go and read her essay but I’m guessing that’s probably pointless as you seem to dislike her so much 😬

I’ll admit, I’ve always been a fan of the Harry Potter series, but even I have to admit that it’s overkill. So many fans are obsessed beyond reason, I don’t think it’s healthy tbh.

Oh god, I remember the thinspiration trend. And calling anorexia and bulimia ‘ana’ and ‘mia’ because it sounded cute. Also remember the bisexual emo phase, and the cutting/self harm phase too. But like someone else said these were never promoted or encouraged and certainly didn’t have so-called intelligent people nodding dumbly along.

no need to angry face my comments 😬
I’ve been very open about the fact I know next to nothing about her narrative on this topic.
I dislike her as a person ,
thats ok you know, we don’t all need to like the same people ☺

I'm very glad you are inspired by her. 👍 everyone needs an inspiration.

She is iconic. I didn’t think it was possible I would love her more than I did, but the stance she is taking even with all the tit, grape threats, violent and murderous threats flung at her and she still manages to remain calm and classy - she is an absolute legend.

no need to angry face my comments 😬

Right, but we’re knee-deep in the middle of a serious discussion about an issue that you said you know nothing about and have interrupted it by saying you don’t like her. Of course it’s okay that you don’t like her and it’s also okay that you’re getting angry faces on your comments because it’s the nearest reaction to show disagreement with what you’re saying!

According to mumsnet, Twitter likes of JKR’s tweets are disappearing.

They keep reliking her tweets and they keep disappearing. Twitter is also hiding the popular hashtag “IStandWithJKRowling”.

2+2=5

JK Rowling had some nasty pre-social media backlash back in the nineties. Ironically for pushing Satanism and witchcraft onto children, so book burnings and revisionism is not new. Twitter, as unpleasant as it is, is so full of bots, sock puppets and algorithms designed to limit the content people view, cannot be taken as reflective of the real world.

Anecdata warning: The real life contempt I find people, even youngsters who haven’t migrated to a cooler platform elsewhere already, hold it in reminds me of similar feelings towards the 4chan and infowars sites back in the day.

I noticed that Jacqueline Wilson was trending for a bit by the Twitter woke crowd as an alternative to JK Rowling, and then that had a backlash when it was pointed out that she too, but had less than 100% unquestioning support for the transgender movement.

Hamilton is on the block too, so quickly after being held up as woke icons.

The travails of student politics. So easily manipulated and hijacked by cynical professional agitators.

At least Mme Guillotine was retired centuries ago.

Yes,I had to re-do mine three times today alone. They’ve capped the likes at about 208K. Also, #peaktrans has been hidden too.

Holy tit, I've just checked this thread for kicks, to see what is being said. All the transphobes are here! This is the most disgusting thread I've ever read, I'll be honest. I know you are all very proud of your hatred and are inspired by your chief Karen, but holy moly, none of you are ok. Not in the slightest. I'm out of here. Have a good life. *shudders*

Oh, and spreading hatred against a vulnerable group in society does not fall under freedom of speech. That is the same rhetoric racists use. But I guess you knew that.
