This gets me too. They have thrown her under the bus. Even if they didn't agree with what she was saying, why even speak up it all? Why did they need to set the matter straight? A chance to try keeping themselves relevant, I guess? And Radcliffe, the word woman isn't yours to give away
More like trying to distance themselves from her since their fan base is largely woke millennials. They don’t want any negativity from JK’s tweets affecting their precious careers. The only sensible one was Rupert Grint, he’s kept out of everything really.

I'm a bit late to the thread, but if have to say I've found it very informative and interesting and apart from some name calling, at least there is debate.

I was appalled at the abuse JK got on Twitter. There's no debate, no dialogue, just she's a homophobic TERF!!!

That's the thing that's really bothering me - there's no debate - it's just shut up and f*** off.

I think we all agree that everybody should live how they wish, dress how they wish and be addressed how they wish. That doesn't mean I'm comfortable with the erosion of female only spaces and would like some discussion about this issue.

I'm particularly worried about kids and the fact that nobody nowadays seems to be allowed to be 'odd'. As a child, I wasn't particular feminine, was a bit of tomboy and because of family dynamics always felt like an outsider. Now, 40 years on, I love pink and glitter but also love my football team and am rarely out of jeans/trousers. In terms of gender stereotypes, I'm still odd. Or unique!!!

I found the interview with Rachel Doelzal really interesting and thought provoking. I do wonder if her idea that race is a social concept will pick up followers. Because I can see the parallels between this and gender concepts.

As i said, I've found this a really interesting thread and even if I don't agree with people, they have the right to state their point of view. Just wish they would also let JK express her point of view.

Exactly. Well if they were that worried about their careers, I'd suggest acting lessons seeing as they've proven to have a limited scope outside of children's films. Sorry, witchy I know but I'm so furious

discussion = transphobic which is so weird. I'm 100% pro choice for example but I'm open to discussing opposing points of view with reasonable, non name calling people.

I feel quite neutral about her. Like several Tattlers, I live in Edinburgh, and work in the centre of the Old Town, "where it all began".. It's unbelievably busy in the summer, and the Harry Potter effect is everywhere... tours, shops, hordes of tourists visiting The Cafe. It's good and bad...money coming in to the city but stifling. I know that having such a massive profile and number of followers means that she has a platform for her opinions and should be able to say exactly what she wants, and open debate, but it seems like a really odd thing to say.

Also late to the debate but as somebody else mentioned I don't really understand why she got so much hate. I really think the left has completely lost the plot (no, I'm not right. My politics is very middle of the road)

I have no issues with transpeople or whatever any human being out there want to identify as. BUT, yes there is a but. I am wholeheartedly behind JK in this. I am also not comfortable with a transwomen in certain sensitive spaces if they stil have male genitalia. I'm not even always comfortable sharing those spaces with other women, never mind somebody who still has these bits.

Now I understand the vast majority will be genuine transwomen with absolutely NO interest in me and my saggy bits but how do I know who i genuine and who is not. All this gender politics just means that there is no safe spaces for women or girls. We're being seen as transphobic when we question them in our private spaces or on the sports fields.

This is such a difficult subject because I feel sorry for them being excluded sometimes but then on the other hand why should I feel unsafe so they can feel safe. I just don't know the answer to all these modern (and very much first world) problems.

It might be a case where there will be inidividual toilets and changing areas instead of shares spaces.

I honestly think most forward thinking trans people will understand the concerns women have. It's the sinister ones that want to force themselves into womens spaces and shout us down that worries me. And those are the ones that shout the loudest and are drowning out the debate. I'm sure there's a lot of trans people that just want to get on with their lives and go about their business as we all do

There have always been trans people. The aggressive trans activists and their Twitter lynchmobs are a new particularly nasty new development. Most violence against anyone, male/ female/ trans is committed by men. Yet the trans activists will always attack women. Why dont they highlight the actual physical violence against trans and gay people by men instead of attacking women? Why are they not asking for their own spaces? Single cubicle toilets and changing rooms or trans grape crisis centres and refuges? Why do they try to shut down women's concerns? Why don't they demand men are called prostate havens or sperm producers? Do trans men not get offended? I'm glad I have sons because I would hate my daughter grow up in such a misogynistic world.

Exactly! I saw somewhere (not sure if here or elsewhere) that trans women should be welcomed in womens spaces because they're not welcome in mens, eg bathrooms. But again, trans activists are going after the easy target, ie women. It's now our fault that they are supposedly subject to attacks in male spaces

Are trans men allowed in men's bathroom?

Trans men have a lifetime of female socialisation and as such, if they are offended, are less likely to speak up when compared to mtf. Similarly, they are less likely to force themselves into male spaces or make demands. Female socialisation basically teaches us we must be polite at the expense of our own well being and ftm will have had this drummed into them too. That’s why we only ever hear from the mtf.

I’ve always thought that. Ron was my favourite character. I was annoyed that a lot of his parts from the book were reduced to the odd “bloody hell!”, and felt that EW dominated the movies. She over-acts/is the same in everything and she wasn’t the right fit for Hermione. DR ... well, his choice of projects hasn’t been great, has it? He will never shed the HP image, and now he’s just thrown the author under the bus.

In hindsight I think that JK Rowling’s biggest mistake was being an outspoken SJW in the first place. Once you join the cult, you’re beholden to them and must agree with their every last thought, or they will literally try to ruin your life. SJWs are feeling an intense sense of disappointment and betrayal, along with their usual intense desire to ruin enemy lives.

If she had kept her personal opinions to herself in these past few years, she’d have faced a smaller and less sustained backlash.

The Harry Potter world was strong enough to have a devoted long-term following, without fans needing to be a fan of the author as an individual. But because she put her personal politics out there so much, a significant proportion of her fanbase felt that JKR herself and her politics were an integral part of their fandom.

Basically what I’m saying is I don’t think her SJW persona gained her any fans (or lost them for that matter), but I think it made her existing leftist fans worship her, and made them project their ideologies into the HP universe. This is now ruined for them, so now she has broke ranks it will lose her fans, but it wouldn’t have done if she had never got them intertwined in her personal politics in the first place.

It’s human intelligence going barmy. We have the intelligence to create new concepts for identities and so here we are. The animal kingdom don’t do this. I mean we have people identifying as cats or forest fairies etc now it’s getting out of hand.

As a child I was obsessed with Taz the Tasmanian Devil cartoon. Mum was always always buying my Taz clothes from the boys section, but you know what, it was no gruelling task for her to do so. It’s not like the shop assistants interrogated her about her choice nor was it a problem for me when I walked into school wearing it. This overthinking and overanalysing is coming from a nation where, I dare say, life is too easy for us. There are still countries where daily survival, making ends meet is paramount - they don’t have time to poke holes in every little thing someone says or think up new identity concepts.

Would you like me to put you in touch with a close friend who has turner syndrome and is very clearly and obviously a woman (she's given birth to a child, which she wouldn't have been able to do, were she a man). You can then explain to her why she actually isn't a woman. I'm sure she'd love to hear your thoughts on her biological sex.
My sister has turners syndrome - never knew I actually had a brother instead 🧐

Radciffe got the job because his mother was/is a casting director and EW definitely didnt get that part on merit. Even by the standards of stage school brats they were not good. They need to stfu. As does Eddie Redmayne. One of about 50 Brit posh boy old etonian actors who are where they are because they are old Etonian posh boys. Why do actors even think we care about their opinions? They are just doing a job like anyone else. Next time I'm in Tesco, I'll ask the cashier what she thinks and use her answer to justify my own opinion.

Is this real??? If so, shame on The Sun. Disgusting behaviour.
Oh my god, its real (just checked on the tomorrows papers today hashtag).

I know we don't expect much from The Sun but that is disgusting. How dare they put her abuser on the front page, it's horrendous.

Thoroughly disgusted by the Sun’s headline

“Exclusive: sick taunt of Rowling’s violent ex”

Oh, the sick taunt that they’ve plastered across their front page which is available across the nation and currently sweeping across the Internet like wildfire? The sick taunt that they not only sought out, but deemed appropriate to be headline material? That sick taunt?

How dare they give him a platform. Wankers
