Good thing all the kids are being replaced next book!

I think they went with an adult for Lavender because that whinny voice would be great for book 6 and she doesn't talk so much to need a kid actor and an adult actor

Book 4 is out in a couple of weeks and I’m really looking forward to it, especially to hear how the new actors do. Goblet and PoA are my favourites in th series. And lots of new characters to be introduced to so I’m interested to see how Crouch/Crouch Jr, Ludo Bagman et al come across - and of course a proper amount of Matthew Macfadyen this time round!

I forgot they are changing the trio for the next books, makes sense because 11 year old voices don't work for 14+ voices, I guess.

I was wondering if they’ll change Fred and George too. They are great but are full adults by book 7 and the current actors sound too much like teenagers!

Fred and George are one actor!

I actually think the voices are OK for the whole series. I think the exuberance the actor uses makes them sound young, but I expect as the plot gets darker their tone will change.

Ooh I didn’t know it was one actor - he does a great job of distinguishing them! My daughter laughed out loud at some of their parts today.

I loved it when I read it go JK go glad they haven’t managed to cancel her, probably her taxes helping them get their treatment and ops maybe they haven’t thought that.

Haven't made it to the PoA audiobook yet, but looking forward to it. I'm also glad they're switching to more mature actors for the later books, the brief interview I saw with the older trio looked and sounded great!

I did have time to re-read/listen to The Hallmarked Man and I caught a lot more the second time around. Yet, there are still so many questions. Someone on Reddit posted this breakdown of all the characters and subplots for THM. I only read through it once and will definitely be consulting it again--the characters are broken down into lists by subplot/what group they are related to within the story. 150+ characters to keep track of!!! Hopefully someone else here finds it as helpful as I did.

The Goblet of Fire audiobook is now out. 20 hours this time 😅

Imagine how long The Order of the Phoenix will be.

I had to laugh recently at the prominent Harry Potter book display at Blackwell's Bookshop, in Oxford.

Oxford being known for its hysterical levels of WOKE and Trans madness.

Surprised that someone hasn't complained that they are 'triggered' by the Harry Potter book display. Which makes them feel 'uncomfortable' with the 'bigotry' and 'transphobia' on open display. 🤦‍♂️

I'm still on The Chamber of Secrets and I'm loving Lockheart ❤

It's a long time since I read the book and in the intervening years have seen the film many times. It's been good going back to the source material and remembering how they changed things in the films e.g. Prof McGonagall telling them about the chamber rather than Prof Binns.
Ron is also a much better character in the books.

I'm really enjoying the audio book so far, I'm just at the quidditch world cup.
Notes

Matthew Macfadyen does sound superb as Voldemort. Very chilling and he really does revel in the "playful cruelty" type dialogue. Maybe thats why @emmer_moans is so mad about him !!

It will all be better in later books, and there is not much you can do about it, but I think the the new actors for Harry, Ron and Hermione all sound a bit old. They are meant to be 14 in this book, but all three sound like they are in college.

Neil from the Inbetweeners is inspired as Wormtail.

Did anyone notice Matt Berry doing the voices for the ads at the Quidditch world cup?!

Other brief note, it looks like the Irish Quidditch team must be an all-island one, because when they win you can hear faint strains of "Ireland's Call" in the background. I bet Phil Coulter never realised his composition would end up in a Harry Potter book. I'm a bit sad that it wasn't Amhrán na bhFiann, but I guess Ireland's Call is more inclusive . . .

Just to clarify, I imagine Matthew MacFayden in his recording booth doing his Voldemort voice and that is a bit hot. Just to confirm I don't condone Lord Voldemort's evilness 🤪

Matthew is doing the voice well I think, and the 'playful cruelty' works 🤣

I agree about the trio's voices but I guess they only wanted to recast the trio once rather than again after say Book 5.
