Lavender Brown is absolutely terrible. And I’m really disappointed with Professor Trelawney.
It’s jarring when you have a scene where everyone is taking it seriously only for it to be interrupted by a pantomime performance that would be more suitable in an audiobook for toddlers.
My the same token I feel like Petunia was a real let down in GoF, it doesn’t feel right to hear an adult Harry at the same time as Petunia gives the same performance she did in the first book. I hope she ages it up appropriately for OotP.
I think I agree with everyone else about Snape and Dumbledore being a poor fit. I am sympathetic to Riz Ahmed because you really can’t follow a performance like Alan Rickman’s. But his performance is neither pathetic enough nor intimidating enough. I had hoped he would improve but he hasn’t so far. I think Hugh Laurie sounds too much like himself and seems to have only one layer. I’m hoping it improves and he becomes less patronising.
And Rebecca Root can get in the bin. This is the first time I’ve realised just how much Pompfrey is in the books.
I have always found the first half of Goblet of Fire to be a bit of a slog, and that’s been the same with the audiobook version. But Winky is fantastic and this is the first time I’ve realised just how dark it is when they are levitating the muggles at the World Cup. I hope the rest of the books will also be a revelation in this regard - I haven’t read the books for many years and I can’t stand the films, so I’ve forgotten most of the finer details.

Ahh, thanks! I was thinking of the cover reveal and not the title. Looks like a long wait still. THM title reveal was March 15, 2024, cover was May 28, 2025, and it was released on September 2, 2025! Likely to be September 2027 which is what I was originally expecting.
