Yes, I’ve read more about it now and realise my initial impression was wrong. You sweet summer child.
a) He wasn't deployed in lingerie - he should have been in a different department - in fact, on a different FLOOR.
b) It is NEVER appropriate for a man to approach a girl or woman in this way
c) M&S have a policy of the staff not hustling customers, but waiting for the customer to approach a staff member - they know that people don't like what they feel is a "hard sell", in any department.
I suspect that this was predatory - or at least validating - behaviour rather than a collision of unfortunate events. And even the kindest gloss on it (ie he was seeking validation) reveals this as entirely inappropriate behaviour because it isn't up to women and girls to help men feel better about themselves.
No problem.Yes, I’ve read more about it now and realise my initial impression was wrong.
I do just want to say though, I‘m not even slightly condoning men approaching women in that way or excusing it. Based on what I’d seen at that point, I genuinely thought it was as I said unfortunate rather than dodgy. Sorry if what I said sounded like I was being an apologist - not the case at all!
Thank youFor those people on Reddit - there has been a 5-min excerpt posted for THM on Apple Audiobooks, it's the very first few pages of the book and some amazing people were kind enough to transcribe them.
I won't link directly as you can see some spoilers more or less immediately when you open the page (at least i did and i was) so proceed at your own caution.
Reading that blurb hasn't cured my itch, I want the book even more now. 23 days to go!
Ooh you have enough time to do The Running Grave in time for release day!I'm currently working my way through the Strike books for the first time. I just finished The Ink Black Heart and I loved it.
I think it's my favourite so far.
An added bonus to me was that I walked past/between the Ship & Shovell split pub that's mentioned in the book a couple of weeks ago.
They, of course, were subject to the whims of the then prime minister Boris Johnson, who could have been replaced with three ferrets in a sack and the only change would have been a slight increase in decisiveness and gravitas
That was my favourite too - I reread it several timesJesus what an unbelievable takedown. JK is so so bleeping funny. I have to admit this line is the one that did me in, although it wasn't about Sturgeon
I’d willingly pay a horrendous amount of money for having a drink or two with her, I bet she can make you laugh about any topic if she wants to. She is very funny. The Boris Johnson gag was my favourite part tooJK’s humour is so underrated.
Yes! Some people have dream dinner party guests, but I wouldn’t want to have a dinner party with Jo - that’s too formal - I’d want to just sit around with a glass or three of wine putting the world to rights and having a laugh.I’d willingly pay a horrendous amount of money for having a drink or two with her, I bet she can make you laugh about any topic if she wants to. She is very funny.
