I think the focus of the injuries being “clearly visible” is pointed. It’s making it plain to the jury what we have surmised, that the abuse would be obvious to anyone living in the household because that’s needed to convict them both, especially if it’s unclear who did what. I don’t understand why there was so many scratches on Isabelle, has someone scratched her with their nails or has she been caught by something when she’s been ragged around? It’s so upsetting I don’t want to think about it.

I was at a camp site last week and there was a cockroach on its back in the shower room. I couldn't bear to see it struggle - it's legs were flailing frantically - so I got a brush and flipped it over. This was a cockroach - they have watched an actual human CHILD suffer, and not only that but inflict even more suffering on her, her grandparents turned a blind eye! Lock them all up, they are all culpable and the 'mother', and the monster she allowed into her home, should never be released!

Can’t remember whether it was mentioned on this thread or Preston Davey’s - but a poster showed a picture that was released of Star Hobson with her face covered in bruises, showing how obvious it would have been that she was being abused and beaten.

That’s all I can think of with poor Isabelle and the extent of her injuries from before the night she was killed - it would have been so obvious to the grandparents.

It’s not been mentioned that AW claimed Isabelle fell down the stairs afaik. Maybe she was going to claim that to her stepdad but it went out the window when he arrived to see her dead. I think AW just carried her down and put her there. It was reported that AW and the stepdad sat in the kitchen chatting and laughing while the paramedics were working, she didn’t even come through to check never mind be close to Isabelle.
I don't think the step-dad was in the kitchen laughing with AW. He was in the garden silent. She giggled when a paramedic asked who he was, and she said dad - not Isabelle's dad. This is what I think I read in the updates. He also cried when relaying what happened in the house in his police interview.

Where was Isabelle's actual dad during this time?

Did Star Hobson ever see her wider family ? If so did any of them report it if it was visible ? It is one of the terrible parts of the Arthur Labinjo Hughes case - some of the family did report their fears and got accused of harassment by the police.

Yeah Frankie's parents were very much in Stars life and adored her. She lived with them for months and was so loved. They were worried sick about her when Frankie took her back . I'm pretty sure they did ring social services at some point

If I remember right it was Frankie’s grandparents who looked after Star. Her mum’s behaviour was odd, rather like in this case.

Oh yeah that was me on the Preston Davey thread. I was trying to demonstrate the power of photo evidence that the jury see but the public don’t. Sometimes when we are reading evidence about bruises, I think we are imagining typical child accidental bruises as most of us won’t have seen bruises more severe from abuse.

Once the photo of Star Hobson was released after conviction it was easy to see why Frankie could not possibly have had no idea Star was being beaten by Brockhill.

Is there any reporting from today ? I wonder if some of the medical evidence will not be reported as too distressing.

My god. This evidence just gets worse and worse 💔 Our little one is starting school this year and as part of the introductory meeting we were given a talk on safeguarding procedures. They explained that luckily child abuse cases are rare but they do happen, so please say something if you notice anything untoward. And all I could think was, it’s happening EVERYWHERE. And people are scared to speak up in case they’re wrong. And then this happens and it’s so frustrating because a lot of the time it could be stopped before it gets to this point.

Yes they did. And also stars aunty. SB told social workers they were angry she was gay and a traveller.... Alfie Steeles neighbours rang police and sw over 40 times and that poor little boy was still not saved. It seems hopeless

Oh my good Lord. That is horrific bruising. The colour tells you how serious and deep that is. That would have been incredibly painful. The contrast of the baby looking so peaceful has made something inside me die. These poor poor children 😭

bleeping hell.

I can’t remember the last time I read anything as harrowing as the description of Isabelle’s injuries. Whoever mentioned Baby Brianna upthread isn’t wrong 😢. I just cannot comprehend beating a baby who is already so badly hurt (obviously I can’t comprehend beating a baby in the first place, but you know what I mean). What the duck is wrong with these people?

I‘m still unsure of the timeline from when HS came on the scene to when Isabelle started being abused. Was AW already doing it before she met him? Was it in fact all her?

As for AW’s parents, I don’t believe for a second they didn’t know what was going on. That child was covered in bruises and there’s no way they didn’t see them.
It definitely wasn’t all her because Isabelle had injuries to her genitals that could work only have been inflicted by a man. Poor baby.

Star Hobson’s family reported it a lot, imcluding a horrific photo of a bruised cheek, she’d vlearly been slapped very hard around the face. Social services wrote is off as malicious reports due to homophobia and swallowed the ridiculous excuse that the bruises in the photo were make up.

Thanks for the correction. I did read it at the time but it must have got mixed up in my memory. My impressions change all the time, I started out feeling very sorry for the grandparents (obviously still do for their terrible loss and the regrets they must have). I was very generously giving the benefit of the doubt to AW as well for her reaction there because nobody knows how they would be in such circumstances. The more that’s reported though the worse they all seem. I get the impression AW was a literal raging alcoholic and the grandparents must have known that. I don’t think we’ve heard much about Isabelle’s dad. It seems he’s been accused of DV against AW so kind of got a free pass as to why he hasn’t done anything to help Isabelle, (the cynic in me assumes he will say he tried everything to see her but wasn’t allowed). If that’s true it seems like AW another one of these women who lurches from one abusive man to the next dragging the poor kid(s) along for the journey. And yes I am aware of patterns of domestic abuse and that I could be accused of victim blaming but at some point people need to have self awareness and take accountability for their own bloody choices. Spoiler for merail. Having left an abusive man myself I didn’t think I would even bother getting another man because how could you trust someone around your kids when their own dad was dangerous. When I did find someone it was a very long time before he could even meet them let alone move in or spend any time with them without me present.

I think AW inflicted the majority of physical abuse, her Daughter was a block to her focusing on her drinking/drug habits and new boyfriend. Desperately trying to keep HS happy & content she allowed him to do whatever he wanted to that little girl sexually.

It’s a heartbreaking read & AW along with her Parents had zero ability to protect or care for her. They demonstrated this when they got defensive at the mention of safeguarding her after her injury. Parents with half a brain cell between them would know this would have been referred.

I just can’t comprehend how much this little one suffered 💔
