I’m also finding this series flat. The designers just don’t seem as good as previous years. The mess rooms were so underwhelming. Usually whether you love or hate the design they manage to create something with real impact. These ones were just bland.
It's Michelle.
She has zero charisma and can't carry a BBC-level show.
It would be totally unwatchable without Alan adding his bits of silliness.
I wish she'd be replaced with somebody with more personality who can connect with the viewers.

This is what really frustrates me. They were saying that if you can’t afford it, don’t do it. And we shouldn’t be expecting the Danny Wellbeck to eat his food off an MDF table like other povos. How can you expect premium standard when you give them 24 hours and £4,000 over two rooms. It’s really ridiculous.
Michelle saying in her opinion brown furniture will never have its moment even though wooden furniture has been a staple since the dawn of time and brown furniture is massive in mid centre design???
In the video with her friend to me I felt that Emmerly looked a bit sad. Maybe it was just me as usually they have their family around them and you see their homes whereas Emmely jusr had her small design studio and a friend. I actually began to like her as the series went on. I think her corporate box was really well done. I don’t get why Sophie got in.
Does anyone know who the corporations were? Sophie’s is magenta pink with lots of flowers in their photography?
I know - it made me laugh how horrified Michelle was at the idea of Danny Welbeck eating off a substandard table. The horror!!!

Michelle speaks to the contestants like they're lower sixth students who are full of enthusiasm but need a lot of knowledge and skill imparted, I appreciate all the contestants develop over the series but I think Michelle would prefer a group that's a little more accomplished and need less of her guidance. I bet she's in the equivalent of the teachers lounge cracking open a gin before the bells' even gone when filming

Yes in that article Michelle (whatever anyone's thoughts about her) said the sofa conversations before her decision last about an hour. So no doubt Domnall's full character showed itself. I presume complete inability to take criticism would be terrible in their line of work.
Looking back Michelle was quite charitable when she said the reason he went was he wouldn't take any responsibility for the challenge - a nicer way of framing the truth.

Watched the first episode of the new series tonight, forgot how random Michelle's comments can be. Stapling plastic leaves to the ceiling should have been a red flag for her sustainability brief if Taos was too much new stuff. Even my kids said Emily's kitchen island at the front was a bad idea, not sure how she didn't see that.

I loved Craig and John's shop - though my OH hated it.
I said the same as Mary Portas about the clothes shop re the black curtains. Such a missed opportunity for a lovely bold colour or design.

Its a small thing but it's annoying me immensely - last week we had zebra print at the beach and a woman using slate as a homage to the beach(something usually associated with mountains) and this week we have a man doing a homage to medieval hunting with zebra skins. Yes, cos there were just loads of zebras running around Britain back then. Why are these people so clueless about the world. 🤔😐 Maid Marion also felt odd for the location. Alice in wonderland also a stretch as it wasn't something the hotel associated itself with.

The sustainablity schtick feels so inauthentic and arbitary 🙄

The furniture the castle already had was so beautiful it was painful to see it painted.

I do think ajeet is underrated. His rolling bench last time was clever, and I love that he researched the castle and brought in the octagons. I don't think his design completely worked but I like his thought process and how calm his designs are.

I agree with other posters that most of these rooms looked a nightmare to clean. 😬 I was thinking about that with that hideous leaf ceiling last week too - such a dust/spider magnet!

This show has often been about style over practicality though. Feeling like something produced for a one time showing than anything else.

Also like other posters was a bit surprised by who went this week. There were def worse choices imo

I really disagree. Craig's was awful, and yet again focused on what he likes rather than the brief.

Johns was stunning. I also think he is the stronger/more diverse designer. He's just awful at time keeping, especially in the limits of the competition.

But let's face it, it's pretty obvious, with the prize and after this weeks feedback, that Rita is going to win

Michelle is always infuriatingly random and inconsistent. The plastic leaves would be a nightmare to keep clean and would harbour bugs and flies.
That idiot putting wooden cladding on.... wood should've been out first. She reduced the space by quite a lot.
Yeah the wood cladding was a complete waste of time and resources. Would have been better used in a space that needed texture or to hide a crumbly wall that they wouldn't have time to replaster!

The ultimate prize isn't even a design job like it used to be. A step on the ladder for interior design on a real world space. It's a product line which is a lesser thing and as we see with celebrities is just driven by others behind the scene with the celebrity name attached. They need to rethink this show.

Did anyone notice when John did his bit where the family speak about him etc and he’s at his school writing on the white board and talking to his class there was no one actually in the class? The reflection shows he was talking to an empty room.

I'd have really loved to see what the girl who did 70s designs did for some of these tasks, I find John's stuff isn't very memorable, the only thing I do remember is those stupid dog steps, for the wrong reasons.

Glad he won, I loved his cottage. The orange gloss hallway/stairs put me right off Rita’s. I was a fan of hers up to that point and had hoped she’d win. The right person won in the end.
