I feel for his wife and children. She had the guts to stand up and name him while he hid behind her skirts and called depression. As a wife that alone would have killed me, never mind all the other things that came later. She has 5 kids and yes they are grown , her instinct would be to protect them no matter how old they are. I hope they can all recover from this.
Including without question the poor kids in those pictures and videos. I wish the judge would have made more reference to the children that were abused. Seems their suffering has been forgotten in amongst HE pension and salary.

I mentioned on here/put up briefly the LinkedIn messages we exchanged; the guy's self pity was on another level. I can entirely understand why he is trying to launch himself again: he has absolutely zero self awareness and thinks he has been hard done by, and that anyone who criticises him is scum. I can now see very clearly what he was like to work with and live with. Hideous human.

If judges can punish civil unrest people harshly to send a message, surely the same should apply to celebs?

It sends a clear message when a judge speaks about accepting some of the shite that Huw said to get off.

He'll re-offend again, but won't do it on something as identifiable as whatsapp.

What he got convicted of was no doubt only the tip of the iceberg as he wiped his phone and this was due to the stuff found on someone else's phone. I know most people here know this, but the reporting I've read doesn't say this important point so some might think his phone was searched and this was isolated.

I also don't understand the sentencing. A man local to me got 3 years for images on his hard drive, some also cat A. He was a married man with young children. His poor wife was in bits worried about revenge attacks on her house even though he was now in prison. They have since moved away.
Money. Huw had all the money to spend to get the best legal advice and make sure he said and did all the right things to carry favour with the judge.

I don’t take issue with celebs paying for private healthcare. I have issue with the BBC doing it on taxpayers money for someone who was suspended due to allegations of inappropriate, possibly illegal, sexual behaviour (that they knew of at the time.) Do they pay private healthcare for all their employees? I expect not.

The state of the NHS is not the responsibility of the BBC. If Huw Edwards felt nhs services weren’t going to respond quick enough then he should have funded private himself.

Am watching live on BBC News and they are reporting he is saying he had 'No memory' of viewing the under age pix because of his mental health at the time!! No feckin' memory!?!!
This is madness to me. I've got depression, autism and ADHD - my brain is not in the most functional shape, but I am still scarred, 25 years on from some things I saw online (gory, not sexual) that I've never been able to forget. If I'd ever come across CSA material there is just no way I'd be able just to set it aside and never remember it again. I would be haunted, no matter what my mental state.

He was a huge celebrity in Wales especially in west wales where his mother lives. I’d imagine nobody asking for his photo or selfie anymore is like a punch in the gut for this narcissistic pweirdo.
The village he's from is only a few miles from me. It was so proud of him that they had a mural of him on a wall. It's been removed.

Really happy that we’ve managed to find a woman to blame for all this. I was feeling very distressed that there hadn’t been any opportunity for misogyny in this case.
Absolutely this 100% How can we blame his wife for what he has done. There’s no evidence anywhere suggesting she has supported him. Walk a day in this woman’s shoes then come back.

A convicted child sex offender, being given an interview to tell 'his side of things'. Jesus wept.

I really hope that Channel 4 are careful to point out that he's a convicted criminal who went guilty. He should not be given any sort of platform, it is going to be a slap in the face to his multiple victims and their families. This has made me so angry.

I haven't owned a TV in 25 years. I threw a vase at the last one. Well at Tony Blair saying he & George Bush had prayed about killing a million Iraqis & god said "Good luck to you, son!".

But all these TV people get away with murder. Michael Barrymore did quite literally. Feelup Scrotefield got away with it & they tried to give him a comeback on that island idiocy. How many Coronation St actors have been wronguns? Len Fairclough, that twat with the Prince Valiant hairdo who played Tracey's bio father, the old creep who plays Ken Barlow & Kevin the mechanic. Now I am sorry & I know it's been on for a good while but that is an awful lot of wrongcocks to have trod the boards on the same studio floor if it isn't an accepted part of the production's culture. Not to mention good old Rolf Harris, Savile & Gary Glitter. And do not get me started on Sir Cliff.

I think you need to be careful before spreading malicious gossip. Michael Le Vell (Kevin from Corrie) was cleared of all charges and whilst William Roache (Ken Barlow) has some odd views and is a bit of a tosser, he has never had any allegations of wrongdoing against him. Sir Cliff also managed to sue the BBC for allegations of wrongdoing. Personally, he needs to be charged for crimes against music but I digress....

His mental health was only bad when he got caught, the world found out what scum he was and he lost his privileged life. Make no mistake, he would have spent the rest of his days doing this with no concerns for his 'mental health' otherwise. He's most likely been at this his whole adult life and of course there will be much more and much worse the police will never know about. People don't become like this randomly one day in their 60s. He's a clever man who knew how to cover his tracks, although obviously not clever enough to think about the fact the scum he was in contact with could be caught.

Perhaps it does not need saying but you are of previous good character, I accept positive exemplary character

I know that this is because of no prior offences, but it is impossible to know or now believe that he is of previous good character!

I don't doubt he had mental health issues that explain (to some extent) his adverse behaviour, or at least provided some push towards what he ended up doing. But that's just it, it might provide explanation, but it doesn't excuse it and it certainly doesn't absolve him of any responsibility.

Of all the people struggling with mental ill health, he had much more of an opportunity than most to get top notch support to address it. And he didn't. And he's a sick fuck for the stuff that involved children and teenagers.

The Owen Jones types that are so blinded by their hate that they don't care about the truth do so much damage.

Owen Jones is a massive idiot, with egg on his face over this.

He has been rightly called out, for which he tried to unsuccessfully backpedal yesterday.

Trying to make out he was talking about something else. Seriously? 🤦‍♂️

Needless to say, if the story had broke in The Mirror, Independent, or Guardian, he wouldn't have been so defensive and quick to dismiss the story as lies.

He is just another overtly partisan commentator, who is only inclined to believe the truth when it comes from sources he favours. From anyone else and it is 'lies' and 'smears'.

People can say what they want about The Sun. The fact is, had they not of run with the story, you can confidently bet the BBC would have done their utmost to of kept it quiet. They have clearly learned nothing since the Savile, Harris, Hall, Denning, et al scandals.

Rehabilitation is a waste of time for people like this, you can’t persuade a pedalo not to do it any more.

He’ll just find another way to get his jollies.

I messaged him last year when it came out he had been messaging men on Only Fans etc, when all I knew was he'd done something a bit dodgy but legal. Just said I hoped he was ok and that what happened between consenting adults was their business. I forgot all about it until someone said he was using his socials again. I went on LinkedIn and felt awful about the nice supportive message I'd sent so I retracted it for my own sake as it never occurred to me he'd be looking at it!

Anyway, I got this.

There was more conversation as I went back going "you wot?!?!" but I feel uncomfortable screenshotting the lot as ultimately this was a private conversation so this is just to prove to you I'm not lying. Also because a bit of me is taken aback that he would respond thus and stupid as it sounds I began doubting myself.

In short, the conversation reminded me of the statement given where he was 'disappointed" in his family not being supportive enough with his mental health. I can easily imagine what it was like living, and working, with him. It would be terrible. It's upsetting just thinking about.
---
I'm sorry, I've taken it down as I feel uncomfortable having it up there. I feel it exposes me even though I removed my name.

But for reference I had written:
"obviously I know now what you did - or rather didn't do. Shame on you for not reporting images of child sexual abuse."

He wrote back: "Bread - when you understand the gravity of severe mental disorder, prolonged hospital stays, suicide attempts, complete loss of sanity, you might - just might - be able to pass judgement. Until that time please steer clear. I was deeply grateful for your supportive comment last year."

I feel sickened by it because he has no idea what I've gone through and there's no shame in his response.
---
Also, no mention of the children. Not one!
He is full of self pity and thinks the world revolves around him. No consideration for the impact his actions have had on the mental health in the children in those images or the teenager he was taking advantage. You can see in the interactions with 17 year old boy and young men he was texting what a bully he is.

The sentencing remarks are quite clear though. HE asked several times not to be sent anything illegal. He also deleted the images and did not send them on to anyone else. That's different from being found in possession of images on a hard drive.
You seem determined to minimise his crimes.

Any idea how many times he enjoyed these images and videos before he disposed of them?

ETA and if I’ve understood this correctly, the judge actually didn’t accept the request not to be sent anything illegal as mitigation due to the late stage it was said.
