I'm applying for other jobs. Our head office is in London and the cleaners get paid more than we do. The job is easy enough, it's the constant monitoring that annoys me. You can't be too long typing up notes about why somebody had called in as there are calls queuing. My husband could work every Sunday and earn more than me, with his overtime rate.

That’s disgusting. No one deserves to work under those conditions! I hope you find a new job soon. It’s unnecessary to be monitored so heavily, you’re a human being, not a robot x

I’m a stay at home mum.
I get £1400 a month paid into my account. I’m responsible for my own car, insurance and debt from this. I always felt like I had to ask permission for money. This way I don’t. Suits us.

I earn nothing - I’m a student. My father however started from nothing and built up a student accommodation business, specialising in luxury living. There are a few franchises across England so I don’t want to say too much, but he earns tens of millions.

I’m privileged but it comes with its downfalls. My mother did everything for us as children, I didn’t see my father much. He just throws money at us, he never taught me business acumen or how to get into business or any life skills really...I don’t want to sound all “woe is me”, but sometimes I just want a conversation with him about a business idea I have or how to start up a business

I've really found this thread interesting, I've just accepted a new job in the New Year and have been really interested in wages ever since, but most people don't like to discuss it!

I'm an Accountant in the Civil Service, currently earn £40k pa, will be £52k after promotion. I'm 39 and live in the West Midlands. Paying off debts from a shitty ex so really chuffed that can be done sooner now

£22,000 full time accounts assistant, I'm 29. I did a law degree but I didn't have the confidence to take it any further, so fell into this job. It's very laid back and it doesn't cause me any problems, something I value more than a higher salary.

I’m a SAHM so no earnings (but I do have some of my own savings). I am very fortunate that my husband often earns up to 7 figures per year with bonus and we have a joint account. I have however sacrificed my career and resigned from several jobs to a) follow his jobs around the country and b) have children. I miss working but it’s not really feasible for me at the moment.

I earn around 25k as a secretary (in a primary school, school hours but all year round although I can work from home mostly in the holidays). I took a 15k pay cut for this job, before I worked as a legal PA much longer hours and worked for really stressy people. My boss and colleagues are lovely and I like being around the kids, I’m involved in all the school trips, assemblies etc. But there’s no way up in the job in terms of promotion or significant pay rise etc... However I never get that Sunday night feeling of dread that I used to get so that alone is worth the pay cut!

I earn around £16,000 part time in hospitality. Husband earns £50,000 but almost has a military pension (he’s 36). We paid off our Morgage in January. I used to earn 70/80k running a business with my mum, she passed away and I didn’t carry on. Some days regret not, but her death hit me very hard and I decided to have a complete change of pace in life. She died at 67 of a heart attack, she took on the worlds stress & I didn’t want that for me.
Anyway, when we are able to conceive, I plan to be a Sahm, and enjoy it.

Some of the salaries are blowing my mindddd. The differences in industries is crazy. Here's hoping for a day when carers and nurses etc are also that blessed! (This is no shade, I know people work hard and it's just how the world is).

Wow fair play with the 5 year progress. I'm a HC worker but one of my brothers is in HR. How did you get the increase? Masters ?

I was headhunted because of the weird and specific combination of language that I speak, which my company needed (we're an international consultancy). I wasn't looking to switch jobs and was quite happy at the company that I worked for at the time. My company was so persistent in trying to persuade me to join them, I smelled their desperation and was cheeky about about my requirements to join them. They agreed to everything that I asked for on the spot, with no counter offer.

I do have a Masters degree, speak a few languages, and have good experience in a niche field - but honestly, I really think that I just had a lucky break. There are lots of hard-working-class and talented people struggling in life, who just haven't been given a chance.

£20,000 a year, deputy manager of a private day nursery in the north east. Would whinge about my pay but they've paid the £8000 for me to do a Foundation Degree so not all bad

Oh and my husband has just introduced me to Matched Betting... Made £150 this week on that. Intend to keep it up as I'm in for an operation next month and will need something to supplement SSP!!!
