Up until a year ago we had a combined income of £36k a year but we set up a new property business and have earned just over £100k in the last 11 months.
We used to be incredibly poor to the point we had no electric for the meter, so to now not have to worry about money and to be able to afford new shoes is a big deal.
I sympathise with anybody struggling with money, and if our business continues to grow I fully plan on helping another family grow a business. Money isn’t everything though but it definitely helps to have it.

In fact retail in general is grossly underpaid. It's such physically and mentally draining work. I could never go back to any form of retail and I always try to be extra kind and respectful to retail staff.
I think the main thing COVID has shown is how underpaid the “essential” workers are!

Haha, I think I'd be really good on a phone sex line as I have a filthy mind!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Defintely could not do this. I would be telling them off for phoning me :ROFLMAO: So maybe I should be a dominatrix

I don't really have a set amount I earn as we own a business but between us we take home between £150 - £200K . We do not have extravagant lifestyles so nobody would think we earn that BUT we both financially support our families, parents and siblings. So realistically we probably earn £80K for the year for us

I completely forgot about this thread - it’s been very interesting reading about what everyone does / earns for it! I’m quite shocked to be honest.

I’m 25, NHS nurse in an ICU, full time, £26,900. Average monthly income varies between £1500-1800. That’s working every Sunday (extra £) and 6-9 night shifts a month (contact is minimum 50% nights, but they’re also extra £).

I also make sure I do minimum 4 bank shifts a month, depending on my shift pattern. A long day gives me £190 and a night £280.

My partner is 31, he’s a helicopter pilot in the Army and is on £62,800. He works away Mon-Fri and is home at the weekends. Finishes “work” by midday most days... Hard life...

Mortgage, house bills, insurance, food shop, holidays, dog related stuff (no children), house renovations, blah blah is all split 50/50 from a joint account then we have a joint savings account for “future stuff”. He puts more into the savings account a month than I do because he earns a little bit more... 🙄 Then the rest of our money is ours to do what we like with. He is amazing at saving, whereas I waste my money on cushions and shoes.

It would be nice to earn more but COVID has taught me that I’m lucky to earn anything, that we are both employed in jobs / by organisations that are “stable”. However awful and tough ICU was and how much I wished for just one day of furlough during the worst of it, I was so lucky to not be laid off and to be able to pay my bills. Really feel for anyone whos business has been affected. 😔 (Sorry, tangent).

Oh wow yes that would be lovely thank you!! If he has any finance/investment tips I think it'd be a lovely learning opportunity for people on here ❤ I'd be forever gratefull (seriously got no one to get these tips from)
This was his reply! The last bit was a dig at me 😂😂 if you want to know anything else pm me so we don’t derail the thread and so I’m not annoying others haha 🙂

I am an Etsy seller & have a YouTube channel which I made to “run along beside” it, which grew much more than I ever expected. I earned 8K profit on Etsy this year and just shy of 50K via Adsense after taxes/YouTube cuts etc.

£0.
I lost my job in April last year, and I've only had Christmas temp work since.
Looking forward to finding a new job and start earning money.

What do you do and how much do you earn? My pay can vary over the year but it won't be less than £150K this year, hope to make more.
It blows my mind that there are people who earn that much (no jealousy, you have an amazing wage!)

When I think of our annual income £27000, I can only imagine what kind of life we could have with 5 times that amount 👍 we’d have so much ‘spare’ money!

I earn £73k per annum. I now have £3 left in my bank account. So living off my credit card for the rest of the month. This is due to paying a huge amount to my ex who does not work. Everyone has different circumstances.

I am about to be made redundant, so I guess his gravy train will now end and he will have to go and get a job.
This is a very good thing to remember. I know people brining home £1,000 a month who have lots in savings and I also have family who bring in £80K+ and have everything on credit.

I earn just over £49,000 as an operations manager and get a yearly bonus that's usually between 15-20% of my salary. Feel very lucky that I work in an industry that hasn't been affected by covid.

I've a skilled specialist role so my pay is a very healthy six figures a year.
For a thread that's for people to tell everyone how much they earn, you're being very coy! :ROFLMAO: ;)

I’m a trader, earn £230k basic plus a bonus of around £60-120k depending on how the year has gone. It’s a lot but after tax it’s basically halved. I work ridiculous hours and have a lot of stress. I aim to get out of the industry soon once I’ve paid off my mortgage.

If I could write a book, I would have done it. Anyway it made me laugh "also be as simple as writing a book".
... might knock out a couple of novels this afternoon, get them published and sell on Amazon. i'll see if i'm in the mood :)

I don’t think you SAHM should feel guilty at all! I get it, I probably would also struggle accepting money BUT you ladies do the most important job which is raising children and looking after the family.
I have a lot of respect for SAHM because I could never do it

Very interesting thread.

UK salaries generally seem pretty low compared to say, the US.

How did we get here? How are people expected to live and raise families on some of these salaries?

I'm shocked at some of the salaries of nurses, for example.
Keep in mind it is a different economic situation.

For example, in the UK we pay tax/NI but we (typically) don't pay for our healthcare. Don't underestimate the sheer amount of money and individual saves by not having to pay for things like a GP visit.
