I’ve saved £1000 into a savings account so far... that’s crazy for me considering I was only managing to save £150-£200 a month pre lockdown!!! I am addicted to shopping and I am struggling trying not to buy stuff online... but most places don’t have a lot of stock of stuff now as it’s sold out so that’s helped me.

Saving alot on hubby's work lunches. Used to buy breakfast, dinner and drinks every day! (Upto £15 a day) We used go out for tea a couple of times a week.
Our food shops probably at 200ish a week (including personal care and cleaning products).
Were a family of 4 so normally go one once a week for the day, easily spend £100.
Daughters clubs cost about £100 a month.
Hubby's hobbies another £100 a month.
HOWEVER I've just started getting full pay after being on maternity. So I've been abit like TREAT YO SELF. So I've been treating everyone in the house and even the house and garden its self 😂
Me and kids needed summer clothes. Hubby wanted some so why not.
Spent abit on the garden to on toys, a new petrol mower and a leaf blower 🙄.
Still managed to save 1k from my pay. Hubby gets paid in a few days. He currently furloughed so 80% of his basic wage. But he normaly earns double his wage in bonuses.

I have saved a LOT on food. I still live at home and so the food I eat there I contribute to under my "rent" and so most of the other stuff was rubbish or lunch for work. So working from home has helped and not having to go the shop has much as saved my food bill from going up. It has also meant I feel healthier as it was usually crap I bought. Really going to try and keep this up.

My other thing I have saved mostly on was getting to work. It usually costs me about £300 a month? and that has gone straight into savings.

While I have spent money on things I maybe wouldn't have bought this month otherwise I have still definitely saved more! How long it lasts after lockdown is difficult though as some of it is obviously needed like lunches and getting to work and I already try and save as much as possible. 🤷‍♀️

It is very interesting reading what everyone is saving on!

If you are under 40 and don't need access to the money you have saved, it might be worth opening a LISA. I think they still do them?

I opened one as I don't have a very good private pension.

You can pay in £4,000 each tax year and the Gov put in 25% for what you put in, so if you put in the full £4,000, they put in £1,000.

You can't touch the money without penalty until you are 60. You can pay in till you are 50 then it earns interest only between 50 and 6p and then you can either take it as a lump sum or withdraw as and when while it gains interest or you can continue to pay into it.

I normally live month by month and can only save a couple of hundred pound a month if I work overtime.
I started working from home 16th March .... I've spent 3 times the amount on food that I normally would but I've also saved 3 times what I normally would too !
Luckily I've still been able to work overtime whilst being out the office (I'm actually loving it !)
The money I've saved is from the following .... Coffee Shops - love them ! No hairdresser appointments and no lash appointments 🙄 No social events, spend alot going out with friends for drinks/lunch/dinner. Petrol ... I filled up on 18th March (had to collect prescription up) and haven't used the car since. Toiletries , apart from the nights I have Zoom parties with friends, I'm using no makeup, hair products (or electric) perfume and I'm doing laundry washing less as I'm not wearing work clothes, social clothes, party clothes etc. It's actually not that bad y'know.
Apart from the being alone and not seeing family or friends irl.

I think I must be one of the few that’s spending more! I’m still working so still spend on fuel but the rest of the family are at home and eating me out of house and home.
food shop is up to 3 times as much as normal. As usually shop in Aldi and Costco. Finally got to Costco this week and stocked up on a few bits but not got to Aldi except for once during lockdown.the queue is just too big and as I’m working full time. Actually work 6 days a week as have a full time job and I work on a Saturday on Waitrose, so last thing I want to do is spend an evening or Sunday queuing to shop.
It shows how much ds2 (18) ate out of the house as now he’s eating three meals a day at home it costs a lot more. He used to work in a pub so would be fed there three nights a week plus at the canteen when at college for lunch. He’s 6’5 and usually very active. My garden and garage now look like a gym and assault course.
plus dh used to eat breakfast and lunch out of the house as he’s leave to work in London at 6am.
I’ve cut back on coffee as no coffee during my break on Saturday or meeting friends after work on the way home. No meeting friends for lunch on a weekend either.
But I’ve needed new clothes and desperately needed new underwear. I’ve had to buy new work shoes today. Dh who is furloughed has annoyed me by spending any money that we might have saved on a new tv! Arriving Sunday. Apparently it was a bargain.

I’m buying a lot of tit. Loungewear, wax melts, baking ingredients (NOT for banana bread mind), books, random tit off eBay.
I could spend money in the Sahara desert if I’m honest 🤪

I would say so far mine is about the same.

I am a saver generally though and only really buy things if I have saved up for them - never used to be that way but my dream wedding and honeymoon changed me. 🤣 I didn’t want any debt so changed my habits about 4 years ago - and it was worth every penny saved and lunchtime treat/candle/primark spree sacrificed!

I have noticed groceries are a bit more expensive as we are not shopping in different shops to get the best deals and I also think there are a lot fewer special offers atm as well.

I have saved about £300 per month commuting but spent it on some things for a bit of DIY to keep busy at the weekends 😊

I am so missing my take out coffees! Saving a fortune on them, I have been buying almond milk lattes from amazon (£12 for 30!! They are yum and what a saving!), also saving on my daughters travel to/from school and meals at school (approx £120 saving), my own travel as now walking the odd day I need to pop into the office. I have treated myself to some new and very needed clothes though and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty as I have zero spring/summer clothes. My daughter needs new clothes too
Do you have a link to said almond milk lattes please? I'm absolutely desperate for a Starbucks 😉🙏

It’s been great not spending money on petrol, lunches and coffees etc at work. However I feel like we’ve spent an awful lot of money on food since lockdown and deliveries from local independent butchers. Also guilty of a couple of online orders here and there but definitely been able to save a decent amount instead of struggling to get by at the end of every month.

I've saved so much money. I'm only spending on food and bills, no online shopping. I usually eat out at least a couple of times a week, spend way too much at the shops weekly, online shop mainly on ASOS, lots of days out, nights away, holidays, all sorts. I've saved thousands.

I spent a lot of money on socialising - dinners out, tickets to things, holidays, drinks, new outfits for said drinks. Plus husband’s commute has stopped.
I’m on 80% pay and husband is working from home so even with my reduced income we are still saving more than ever. Which is lucky because we are both in at risk industries.

Food shopping has gone up though, lots of baking ingredients to pass the time, a lot more at home beer and wine.
This is me too. Apart from food and petrol most of my money goes on socialising. My husband pays the regular bills and I pay for all the treats like nights out/theme parks/shows/panto etc for us and our five year old. We usually do quite a lot. We have a date night at least once a month. Always book Alton Towers/Center Parcs and holidays etc so we have fun family things to look forward to.
Our food shopping has gone up ( my child is eating us out of house and home 😂 ) but overall that’s about it.
Despite ‘saving money’ I’d still prefer my old life back. Don’t get me wrong we are still making memories - we’ve done school work, crafts, baking, kite flying, made a bug hotel, he’s learnt to ride a bike finally etc - and it’s been lovely spending extra time as a family but I cant help still feeling trapped.
I’ve managed to not spend on any non-essentials but have bought a couple of baby things before they go out of stock for our new arrival in August.

I’m only spending on food and petrol (although I haven’t needed to yet) so everything else is going into my savings. Even with my take home pay being 60% last month, I still managed to save £500 - I usually save about £800-£1000 depending on the month.

As others have said I’ve been spending a lot more on food! I’ve had to shop for my mum and grandma who are both vulnerable which hasn’t helped (my mum has expensive taste! 😂) but I’ve swapped from mainly shopping in Aldi to Tesco, just so I can get everything I need in one go.

I think ours has probably stayed about even.

the cost of my groceries is eye watering but then I realised that that extra money will be accounted for by what I’d usually spend on 2 lots of school dinners probably.

we’ve had more takeaways (just out of boredom and as a way of celebrating things that we’d usually go out for) but again it’ll be balanced out by the not spending on days out and diesel.

I’m feeling too bleh to want to buy clothes or make up at the moment.

but instead I’ve signed up to all sorts of things like Readly and exercise subscriptions to again its odds and evens really.

Our food shopping has gone up. I think it's for lots of reasons, including supermarkets upping their prices.
I've bought new pots and pans, loads of flour, loads of stuff from sous chef for more experimental cooking. Bought lots to keep my daughter entertained (paints, record player, drawing tablet, disney plus). Buying more booze.
Going to reign it in from now on. Don't really need anything else. We are wasting much less though. It's all swings and roundabouts. I can't go out, so spending the money on staying in. I don't work. My husband is working still and is 50/50 home or site. Daughters has online school. So to quell the boredom I am making horrifically elaborate meals. I done a mexican night. I was cooking for five hours, made everything from the corn tacos to the crema from scratch.

I feel like everyone is spending more on the weekly shop, the lack of offers, plus the feel to buy extra ‘incase’ as you can’t just pop to the shops means you’re subconsciously buying a little bit extra?

My husband is doing the shop as I need to isolate as much as poss due to being in work with my vulnerable mum, and he honestly lacks any kind of foresight of deals (bought 4 cans of soup on a 3 can deal 😬) and just follows the list, which is great but he doesn’t look at other options whereas I’d have a quick scan around and I’m way more frugal.

I’m probably the worlds most boring person - the only big thing we are saving is pre-school fees, I’ve not filled up in weeks as I only work down the road. I never buy take out coffee, and we would usually have lunch out on the weekend so that’s about it!

We are spending near double on our shop atm and we’ve spent a bit with b&q as we’ve had the time and weather to crack on with our garden but we’d have done that anyway

I’m not in the U.K. and lockdown is strict here and we don’t have many shops on island and online shopping (coming from the states) is expensive. I saved $400 more last month and only spending money on groceries after bills are covered. Groceries are expensive here. Travel is my big passion but given the airport is closed for months, I don’t think I’ll be doing that for a while.

We’re definitely saving overall:
- neither of us are commuting, and we’re not visiting our families at the other end of the country (not seen my mum for almost three months!), so can’t remember the last time I filled up;
- we’re only paying 30% nursery fees;
- no lunchtime trips to Tesco for me, and my husband isn’t buying his office’s entire stock of snacks every day;
- no meals out;
- no clothes for the baby;
- I’m not wearing make up (so is lasting longer)

On the other hand, our food spend has probably tripled as we’re only going to one shop (Tesco), very few special offers, we’re bulk buying more and stocking the freezer, and we’re buying more treats.
