Anyone peeved at all the home schooling chronic flexers out there at the moment. The ones who’ve completed google classroom by 9am, written a journal by mid morning, baked a cake by noon, designed a poster for their window to motivate their community by mid afternoon and so on. My sons being looked after by you tube and Disney+ whilst myself and husband are working at 150%, gotta keep the essential services going (we work in sex health and social housing) although let me tell you people are not happy that we can’t provide full services.... probably the same people who are flexing all over social media about the home Ed they’re doing with their kids...... also they’ve probably got spare rooms full of pasta and bog roll too #justsaying sorry I’m on a rant now. by the way I e got time to write this today because I’m technically on annual leave today, however leave during COVID means checking your emails 4 times an hour

OH I'M HERE FOR THIS 👀 🍿

They're always "so proud" and doing daily social media updates of how wonderful it all is.

None of them seem to have proper jobs.

My 11 year old's school have sent for the week just gone:
24 maths workbooks with 120 questions/problems each. (Left the pissing protractor at school. Lets go unnecessarily round Wilko shall we? That's a no.)
5 science tasks including making a boomerang, (it fell on the floor and the dog licked it. Uploaded it anyway post licking. Soz, no re-do)
4 geography tasks, 2 RE, a PE schedule. (Fuck off, we've got a trampoline and Just Dance)
A request to build a prototype of a product to make a developing country safer. I think that's still Geography? (Our country might be a start at the moment mate. 🙄)
4 Recipes to cook for home ec involving copious amounts of flour and pasta (WHERE? Have you walked round Tesco with your eyes painted on?)
6 English workbooks. Including analysing Shakespeare.
1 Drama project on Comedy. (I'm not feeling my inner Sarah Millican right now)
4 Art Projects.
Some DT shit that I can't understand (wtf, I am not giving this kid a saw. This is a child who was sent home from Y3 and Y4 three times for trapping their hand in the toilet door and requiring a check of just how mangled the tendons were. There will be NO SAW)
There are warnings attached about how they will be tested on return to school on all subjects and sanctioned if the correct efforts aren't made.
I have to work from home. I have to. It's not optional.
The child in question is dyscalculic and dyslexic.
I have sat on my self so as not to email something unbecoming because we all know the teachers have sweet FA to do with it, it's an academy so it's pressure from above.
These kids are 11 FFS and I am not a qualified teacher.
Thank you for allowing this drivel to permeate the site. It has helped.
Can I drink now? 😉

As long as mine reads & writes a bit each day I don’t mind. I’m working f/t from home & husband away working. Our 10 year old has so far watched most of little Britain, come fly with me, stranger things & every shark film going 🙈

Oh my god, I could be friends with all of you! I reckon all our kids will be fine and not precocious little feckers with laminators.

I can say....all this staying at home malarky is making me fat. Home baking ... Cos that's one of the lessons . Living in house clothes because my buttons are also socially distancing....

I think a lot of parents meant well but I’ve seen loads of pictures of mini classrooms and full on time tables and it’s mad, realistically how long will you keep it up for? I made a loose plan that went out the window on day 2. You’re not teachers and you don’t need to recreate school at home. Bit of reading bit of maths here and there is all that’s needed. Every child in the country is in the exact same position, no one’s going to be left behind.

I think some are putting pressure on themselves to suddenly become home educators and the ones showing off don’t help. Everyone needs to chill out. What kids need most right now is love, stability and fun, not parents who are trying to be something they’re not for social media. Do what works for your children whether that’s a routine, no routine or somewhere in the middle (Probably most of us?), not what keeps you up with the Joneses on Facebook.

My child’s been fed and had a bath today .... I’m winning!! Anything else is a bonus, we’ve just played board games, done jigsaws, bit of YouTube, she’s got autism so clothes aren’t on the agenda either, pjs all the way, and no real meltdowns

Well done for keeping sane ladies. As a teacher, *whispers* we don’t care how much work children get done, we just provide it for the SAME FUCKING MOANY 3 PARENTS WE ALL HAVE IN EACH CLASS SO THEY DONT COMPLAIN AS THEY ALWAYS WANT MORE FOR THEIR CLEVER PRECIOUS DARLING

keep going and do what you can ✌🏼

I'm a special needs teaching assistant but not working as I'm in my third trimester. Home schooling is a nightmare. My son has autism, and despite it being my job, I cannot get him to do anything. We managed 1 piece of English work but only because I bribed him with doritos. He literally had his right hand in the crisp bag and left hand writing 😂 I made them a scavenger hunt for our dog walk so they had to read that 😂 my 6 year old is slightly easier but honestly they just play or watch TV. I thought we'd manage more than we have so far but it's hard to get them motivated to do school work when they arent physically in school.

We have a group chat for the parents , just to communicate lost pe kits or I’ve got little johnnys jumper. There’s a few on there , just make it fun guys ! We have done all the assigned work by 12 . Afternoon is fun educational crafts , baking and secluded walks .
Me over where 12 pm still out pjs arguing with my six year old , that’s it’s not homework and we have to do it . While my 4 year old runs riot and I catch my 2 year old drawing on my wall.
The group watsapps are bad at the best of times but good grief it's in overdrive right now. We have one mum who keeps popping up apologising for not being chatty lately. Literally nobody noticed you dozy clown. We are all far to busy in our own burning worlds of hell.

Ahhh sorry. Better out than in. I'll feel bad for this in the morning.

Is 'homeschooling' the new Hinching? Are we going to get cupboards full of crafting supplies and stationery?
I'm just finding, like with Hinching, these parents seem to have all the tick lists and equipment but doing the equivalent of wiping over with Zoflora to make it look good!
5 children, most of us have been ill. I have been so driven by the learning through play...the children were just getting bored, sometimes playing with Lego doesn't need to be about counting and just letting them play Fortnite is easier all round. One week down and I am just focusing on getting better over being a week behind.

Hello everyone, hope people don’t mind me posting this...but I was drawn to this thread as I am a teacher and I have friends who are going completely crazy with the homeschooling. I have a 2 year old so my home schooling is literally play but the advice I gave to my parents and to my friends is not to go mad with it all. A little bit of reading every day and maths/writing alternative days is more than enough. Most people are trying to work from home, keep their children fed and watered and then most importantly...safe! I don’t know how anyone can find the time to do intense home schooling all day. Keep doing what you are doing guys, whatever that may be will be enough 😊

I’m a teacher and I’m doing a rubbish job!!!! We’re lucky if we get anything done! I attempt to do something each day but to be honest if they even get clean pyjamas on and brush their teeth we’ve done well 😂😂 they don’t like clothes so I make sure at least it’s clean pyjamas. We’re getting out for our daily walk and I try to have “educating” conversations with them but I’m not doing a great job. I’ve just had a baby And my eldest has adhd and you know what I aim to survive this period with my mental health in tact and with their mental health in tact. That’s it!!!! Oh and I might bake a cake and get them to work out ingredients and call that maths and English in one 😂 I’m resourceful

I've printed a schedule but only because of the teenager! Lots of breaks, I'm not a teacher , I'm a parent losing my shit big time . I'm also quite relaxed about it all despite the school bombarding us with stuff ! They'll do what they can & that's it .
