hang on- didn’t she do some work experience a while back in the cancer field??? And didn’t she say it wasn’t for her???
Do you remember where she said it? Just out of curiosity, I remember her being quite good at pathology at uni so thought it might have been up her street

I don’t know if she ever actually gave her opinion on whether she really enjoyed the work experience or not- which I find strange! I feel like back then she was just going through the motions of what she felt she had to do!

Essentially she got rejected from one application and then she decided against persuing medicine. I think it was good that she was rejected because she never had a passion for persuing medicine. I think she thought that academically excellent = doctor material. I also remember her saying that she'd want to go into holistic medicine rather than working for the NHS which is a big yikes
this post is from a few pages ago, i don't remember if there's a specific video about holly talking about alternative medicine (please, post it if you find it!) but i think that's why she was rejected for medicine at cambridge (along with the fact that she has no other hobbies, interests, voluntary work or work experience that boosted her application)
she believes that veganism and yoga can cure most illnesses and that's a very problematic point of view for a doctor...one can see that she preaches that veganism is what cured her (still on-going) ED, so i'm curious about what will she pursue with her master in oncology, holistic remedies for cancer and stuff like that? will she be taken seriously by her colleagues at UCL?

EDIT: i found in her own website that she defines herself as "lover of all things holistic health and fitness"

Found it! She talks about wanting to go into holistic medicine at 10:51 (also note the comments telling her not to waste a medicine degree spot if she's not going to be an actual doctor)

Feels like she's hopping from career to career, and the only thing in common is they'll give her qualifications to try and defend her problematic traits? (Bar teaching of course, but I wouldn't want her swaying the minds of teenagers)

That reminds me of how she always chews on a clove of garlic to 'cure' a tooth abscess she has/had. For goodness sake, go to a dentist! I know scores of people have a phobia of dentists, but come on!

God she's so irritating when she's with her sister. I actually thought that Emily came off quite well in this one, but Holly just seems like she's 4 again.

Okay it's kind of interesting that she mentions that she was asked why she doesn't just study Nutrition during her Cambridge medicine application interview - cause honestly that's what I've been thinking too? Like, I agree with you guys that focusing even more on food would probably bad for her given her ed issues, but still - she was talking about wanting to study nutrition for years and now she just doesn't? Idk it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Emily seems very mature in that video with Holly. Maybe it’s because Holly is acting like a 5 year old but Emily really seemed like she was trying to make Holly calm down a bit.

I wonder if she was so set on going to TUM that she decided to give up on nutrition all together when she was rejected from there. I think she knew that Wageningen would be best for her after that, but didn't want to go abroad becuase covid and also becuase she was worried about the reputation of Wageningen (anyone else get this impression?)

Also want to know when she'll hear back from UCL, surely the course must be starting very soon!

If I’m looking at the right MSc there is this note at their page :
“Due to the large number of applications received, this programme is no longer accepting applications for 2020/21 entry. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Applications for 2021/22 entry will open later in the year.“

If I remember right Holly applied close to the deadline. Maybe they haven’t even seen her application.
The program is supposed to start in a few weeks...

Just went on UCL's website and it says they received a high number of applications for this year which could be why they're taking a while to get back to Holly.

Ergh, why does holly regress so much around Emily? If I didn’t know she was a graduate I’d think she was a 13 year old going through her ‘rawr Im so random xD’ phase

That's what I thought. After graduating first of her cohort in Cambridge, I feel as if the rejection from TUM crumbled her idea of studying Nutrition. She couldn't conceive why she wasn't accepted with her impeccable CV. Remember when she was rejected for doing Medicine in Cambridge, instead of applying to other unis, just switched to Nutrition, like "if I'm not chosen for this course at the best uni I don't want to do it". (Which is similar to Ruby Granger's situation, who, after being rejected from Oxford, switched to RS because she thought English Lit wasn't for her).
I don't believe in the whole idea of "Rejection is Redirection", if you want to do something, just pursue it! But Holly thinks that if she doesn't get something at the first opportunity or at the best uni, it's an excuse for switching career's path without making her mind up.

Yeah that's what I don't get! Like if you're really set on something take a year out, get more experience, take the time to grow as a person and reapply. Don't just change your lifeplan because you got rejected and you don't like that.

I highly highly doubt she would be accepted into UCL now. The course would start in only a few weeks! I know some other people doing MSc’s at UCL and they’re currently doing enrolment and picking modules etc. I just don’t understand why she would make her applications etc so public when there’s always a chance of not being accepted

It's a very superficial way of thinking: to chop and change fields based purely on the prestige of the one university you apply to. Most people would apply to university A for course X, then if they got rejected, would look into studying X elsewhere. Few people would jump to the conclusion that both the university and the course were the problem.

I think this was during the gap between her second and third year. I can't remember if she did 1 or 2 internships but one was definitely in a lab and based around cancer research. I may be making this up but I'm pretty sure what's why she went the med application/ dissertation route in her third year because she confirmed she didn't enjoy lab work.

And yet she’s applied to do a masters in cancer... where she’ll have to do... cancer RESEARCH.... erm...

Honestly I've got no clue - she needs a dose of the real world. I've got a sister who's studying a pre-med track at the moment but isn't convinced she wants to do post-grad medicine. I've told her to take a few years off and work, mature a bit and figure it out. We don't have to know exactly what we want to do at the age of 18/20/23. She's set on doing med because of some preconceived notion that taking time off between degrees is bad.

I wonder if this is influencing Holly's decision to rush into something rather than actually going out into the world for a bit. I wish she'd take a leaf out of Paige's book and get a job, even if it's a random secretarial role miles away from her parents where the pay is so bad she's forced to live in a sharehouse. I'd watch that content 😂😂😂

I think if UCL were going to accept her they would’ve done it by now. She shouldn’t have posted a video telling everyone. Especially how in the video she was talking like it was guaranteed she’d be accepted.

If the course has loads of labs (which I assume it will?) and not lots of reading/studying, she’s going to hate it
