Whaaaat! Catherine throws Ryan out? But all she does is try and protect that boy. Would be sad to see their relationship go that way 😢
Did you see how he said I love you when he came downstairs to get water and she never replied ...it was building to something!

I did…hope they don’t ruin the dynamic between Catherine & Ryan. Yes he’s got his problems but she’s always been there worrying and helping him. Might tip Ryan over the edge…

Do you think Rob's daughter always has her coat on as some sort of trauma response to the violence going on in the house? Curious to learn more about his wife and what her back story is.

I thought this too. It's like if she needed to leave the house quickly she could.

Possibly or maybe self comforting, wrapped up in her big coat like that. It was very poignant when she asked her mum, "why doesn't Daddy like you?".

That bit really got to me. I found it very sad.

Also thanks for the Conn O’Neill recs, found Dancing Thru The Dark on Apple TV & Cucumber is on All 4, will be watching both. I struggle to get into American dramas, not sure what it is, but much prefer gritty British tv shows x

Please tell me someone remembers him as the transvestite club owner in Uncle? And he’s just turned up as a pirate in Our Flag Means Death. He’s certainly a versatile actor 😂
I first saw him in a film called Dancing Thru The Dark, set in Liverpool. One of my favourite films. Depending on your age, there are so many people in that film that you will recognise.

He was also in Cucumber, and I just watched a Midsomer Murders where he played a cheese maker (he wasn't quite the full shilling).

I just finished listening to the latest Shrine episode and there were some interesting theories - someone pointed out that 'Rico's Newsagents' could be code for Richard Cawood (newsagent=journalist?)

And another point to add to the Neil is dodgy argument that I forgot - we already know he's been blackmailed and coerced in the past (by Vicky Fleming) so is susceptible to that sort of thing

Poor little Ryan in s1, all sat at Daniel’s and they act like he’s not there (apart from Catherine and Clare) and then to say ‘you’re going to be grandparents’ when he’s sat right there!

I always felt so bad for Ryan when he was little - all his mates at school probably had "normal" families whereas he has no idea who his mum and dad are because no one talks about his dad and he only knows his mum died. He's got no idea why there's no grandad or uncle regularly in his life and when he sees them, they can't wait to be away from him. When none of it's even his fault, he didn't ask to be born! It's astounding he didn't turn out to be a horrid teenager and seems relatively normal (I was worried he'd be psycho this series)

I think there have been some violent emotional outbursts from him this series and we still don't know how the prison visits have come about...plus he was sneaky sending the first letter to the prison..

The coat thing is quite common in traumatised children: it’s an attempt to add an extra, buffering layer between themselves and what is happening around them.
