I’m not a parent or TTC or anything so please don’t take this the wrong way, but isn’t the heavy emphasis on “when I get pregnant”, “I just want to get pregnant so the decision is made for me” a bit of an unhealthy way of looking at things? Surely you can’t live your life like that…?

Feel a bit bad for her when she acts like a data analysis girl boss with her year 6 homework graphs. Doing a fake presentation about thumbnails in her living room and pretending it’s deeply interesting. Even her Subscribers are commenting on this vid to gently suggest these numbers are massively warped and meaningless due to early sub clicks.

I’m not a data person by any means but I have to demonstrate outcomes for work occasionally so I’ve skimmed a couple of books on data presentation. And like… the only real rules are 1. use meaningful data and 2. don’t use pie charts. Meanwhile Hannah’s whole shtick is putting useless stats into the same useless visual.

BTW I can’t emphasise enough, it’s not that deep to me - I work in the arts lol so explicitly not a science wizz. But Hannah’s whole thing is that she looooves the numbers and audience analysis. It’s soooo nerdy!! She’s such a type A girly!!

The social media career path has obviously paid off financially but I think there’s been a massive opportunity cost of a more typical, more dignified career where she could have used her brain more (assume she was academic as a kid).

I think this is apparent in her constant over-emphasis on any aspect of content creation which legitimises it, usually by proximity to other professional areas - Eg stats, business management, academia, training courses. The same reason she makes networking events, branding, Patreon, statistics etc. into her public ‘’work identity’’.

She pretends those things are the substance of her career, when the real substance is what gets her views - talking about sex, exploiting her child and medical history, then to a lesser extent reading shit books and buying ugly charity shop clothes. That’s the dichotomy of her content…. super organised, high achieving personality but the videos are mostly mind numbing or sheer exploitation of her intimate life.

She genuinely seems highly unsatisfied with this line of work so dresses it up as best she can. IMO it’s also the same reason for the half arsed career change and all the stalling about decisions until she has another baby.
Yes, this! I always used to think Hannah was just about the only YouTuber/influencer out there who had any kind of work ethic, back when she used to put out one main channel and one side channel video a week plus a new podcast, and she'd pre-film so if she went on holiday or took Christmas off, you couldn't really tell. Ever since she had a baby, she's just making whatever she can scrape out of the bottom of the barrel for the side channel (ham sandwiches, come on), changes her "I'm Hannah and I make videos about..." every single time because she has no actual idea what she makes videos about anymore and is living off her reputation as someone who puts thoughtful effort in when she hasn't done that for years. It's like when you look up bullet journals and discover the only people maximising their productivity with specialist journals and tools etc are people who don't actually seem to produce anything. "Get up 5am for exercise and acid water and soggy uncooked porridge. 9am colour in my reading tracker. 11am draw some boxes to colour in my mood every day. 10pm so tired after a long day of not doing anything, write down bedtime in journal".

The lady doth protest too much 😂

Yeah - it is a super odd choice, they could easily stop at one (especially living in a small 2bed flat) … but she’s hell bent on a second.

It’s going to knock her sideways when it happens. My brother put it well when he said ‘one kid is one kid, two is like ten’.
I saw a tiktok from a dad that said that one-child parenting is hobby parenting and that the shit hits the fan at two kids lol. I don't think she necessarily finds motherhood unfulfilling, more like she is struggling with how she would like things to be and the reality of her situation (re: housing, career, parenting). I don't agree with all her parenting choices (no sleep training?) but she obviously loves her kid and I see why she would want a second despite the difficulties, especially because she has a clock literally ticking due to her medical stuff.

Also I would assume she feels quite lonely and she's been vocal about that and the fact that not many of her OG friends have kids or they don't live in close proximity. In some ways it sounds like she'd be much happier in Manchester and I don't understand the obsession with staying in London apart from maybe Dan's work.

Very mixed feelings about her 'I tried being vegetarian for a month' video. As a vegan, I think it's great when people give veganism/vegetarian a go! But there was just something so childish about the whole video. She is fussier than a child! And she is also SO lazy...yes, we get that you have a kid, but that doesn't mean that the only meals that you cook have to take 10 mins! Especially as she doesn't have a real job and is at home all the time anyway.

Sorry if this is rude, but just feel like her video was particularly immature and pathetic today!

I think she was like a lot of YouTube sex ed people in that she just had normal boyfriends and maybe an occasional casual thing but she saw herself as a promiscuous sex kitten like Samantha Jones or something.

I've just been watching her (tedious) TTC Q&A, which is mostly just background noise but it got to the question "How do you bring up the subject to your friends when you want to talk about it to someone?" and Hannah said two things that blew my mind.

Number one was: do your friends not already just naturally talk about babies and pregnancy? Why do you need to bring it up, doesn't it just come up by itself? (no, Hannah. Not all of everyone's friends are at exactly the same stage of life as them and even if they were, most people's approach wasn't "we're ttc", it was "I'm pregnant" when that bit was over. I mean, it's very much up to you but my friends didn't give us the details)

Number two was: instead of bringing it up, "you can always just ask someone else first". Why don't you just casually say "Oh, are you and so-and-so thinking about having kids?" Hasn't the internet - and Hannah herself - spent the last decade being very vocal about how you don't ask people questions like that?? At that point, I screeched "Hannah, what the fuck??" and turned the video off. She'd be the first person to throw a tantrum if anyone, even a friend, asked her such a sensitive question and here she is recommending it!

She talks a lot about career transition and behind the scenes of content creation, but does anybody actually cares about this... like who thinks "I really want to watch a video on how a stranger switched career from content creation to slightly different content creation"

Hannah claims that her tiny flat is big enough for 2 kids

Meanwhile, I'm in my (bigger than her) flat saying no to getting a second cat because I'm worried there isn't enough space for two lol

Aargh, it's my favourite day of the year already and I'd misplaced the document!

Right. Patreon has become vague at 1.7k paid members and Hannah whinges that the vast majority are on the lowest tier, so we're looking at somewhere in the vicinity of £61,200 coming in from Patreon which is 33.6% of her income, so £180k+ a year, which is so much more than I earn that I can't even begin to imagine what my life would look like if I was her, filming myself eating shit meal deal sandwiches. Still working on the minimum Patreon tier, she's gone from minimum £98k last year to minimum £182k this year which is very much not what I would call "plateau" - I'd call that "my income has doubled".

She also complains that her creator consultancy percentage is lower than last year but the income has gone up so much that the actual number in pounds sterling has gone up from £6900-9170 last year to £8200 upwards this year (the upper tier is now £20 and that just takes the maximum numbers vanish beyond my mental horizons - even bearing in mind the massive amounts of money, I don't believe there's any chance she's getting anywhere near £1.2m a year from all this crap). And she complains that she's not getting anything from one of her podcasts or her second book but I reckon she's doing alright without them.

I just watched her vegetarian video and the gusto section was infuriating. I’m not a picky eater so I don’t fully get where she is coming from tbh, but I understand hating mushrooms, disliking chunky veg. But then it also had to be under 30mins, and half the ones that fit all her criteria she called “too boring”? Like c’mon now. If you hate the majority of vegetables and don’t want to spend any time cooking, you CANNOT complain that the remaining recipes are boring.
I'm a SUPER picky eater, even in adulthood, but I feel like at a certain point you hit an age where you realize you need to start cooking + eating veggies. Maybe it's just me because i'm not rich, but I almost eat exclusively home cooked meals now, and I hate cooking. It's just healthier for people who have dietary restrictions (like me) and who are picky!
I always find it a little surprising when people who create content online don't cook -- like, how much money are you making? Lol

Leadton? Witley?

So many influencers think they're protecting their children by not putting their full face on the internet and don't seem to have any concept that it's not keeping them safe to put every other detail of their life out there - what they wear, what toys they like, when they're ill, what school/clubs they go to. The trouble is that kid content gets ten times the attention anything else does, whether from fellow "mummas" (god, I hate that word) or mummas-to-be or from the weirdos or just from their adoring fans. I know people criticise Anna for often making it seem like her child doesn't exist but that's exactly what they should all be doing - Jane in Accounts doesn't bring her newborn to work and make her job all about him, why should influencers?

It made sense when she was making two videos and a podcast every week. Now she's scraping the barrel to monetise her hobbies, it really doesn't require three people anymore.

In which Lucy would never have read the book!

Leena is definitely the best of those three. Lucy does nothing and whines in shades of beige about burnout and lack of inspiration and the bad light in her flat. Hannah doesn't seem to do much at all ever since she dropped her sex ed videos, podcast and book-writing and now makes videos scraping the bottom of the barrel. Leena at least is still reading, sewing, upgrading her skills and using her brain, if I don't always agree with her taste in books and her vague sense of superiority.

I started the new video and as soon as she said "post baby impact on my income" I rolled my eyes. I won't deny that the effects of a drop in income will linger, and there is a wealth or wage gap that stems from having a family, but is this really still a "post baby impact" and less of a "my income changed and I refuse to adapt" type of deal? Especially when compounded by the career change?

Found her ad for Headspace really jarring on insta stories yesterday. Second time this week I've seen an influencer "be open" about their mental health and then start shilling for a company. idk, it just feels like it really cheapens what should be an important conversation about struggling with your mental health, trying to not let it consume you when you're having issues conceiving etc

It is unhealthy but unfortunately unavoidable if you’re trying over any length of time. I do think voicing it online so much is probably making it worse. For all that she’s about raising awareness and normalising etc. this is one of those things that’s going to be difficult for her family no matter what, so why make it a bigger deal by telling the whole internet and have them along for the ride?

Glad she got what she wanted, but time to unfollow her again for me. I can't be doing with more baby content.

One of the things that drives me INSANE about how she constantly blames the income difference on her having a baby, when in reality... she is a content creator so it will ALWAYS vary... but she also had a baby then shortly after switched her niche AND stopped regularly uploading on one of her channels and switched to uploading on a channel that doesn't have many subscribers (compared to her other one). Realistically, she's still making a good 1.5-2.5K from each channel, so she's fine lmao, especially when factoring in sponsorships and the level of work she DOES do.
