Just coming on to say that using an autism diagnosis as a defence is deplorable, he actually thinks he's done nothing wrong, the other day I recounted two incidents from my past that i would definitely report now, my husband was quite shocked but back then I just let it go, I was in the hospitality industry and I was ok with banter from chefs but twice I felt very nervous and scared by banter that went too far, using being a cheeky chappy greengrocer as another excuse is pathetic, I hope his poor young wife runs for the hills, he is nothing but a creep and a misogynistic pig

I’ve been in various uncomfortable, inappropriate situations in work environments, not only with men I might add, and didn’t make formal complaints about any of them. Do you want to know why? I was young, scared of rocking the boat, and didn’t want to make the situation worse. It would be different now I’m more senior and established in my job. But if I heard of one of the same people who made me uncomfortable at work had done something to someone else, rest assured I would speak out now, decades later, to support the other victims.

Making rape jokes, referring to professional women as derogatory or sexual names, making it known you aren’t wearing underwear, and walking about with only a sock over your genitals…AT WORK…is not ok.

Completely agree. When i was younger it was commonplace for men to make lewd comments and to do things like run their hands up and down your spine. They thought they were being funny. Now I’d report them. If I was still working and I heard someone more junior reporting them /having difficulties you bet I’d speak up with my “middle age middle class woman” persona. I think this Greg Wallace thing has resonated so much because all the woman HAVE been there in some way.

I think GW is very insecure and intimidated by women, especially middle class women of a certain age who aren't intimidated by him and are intelligent and confident enough speak out about his behaviour. I think he sees women as sexual targets and his only way of communicating is to say something boorish and sexual to see how they react. Over 50 years ago, I took a shortcut to work through Smithfield Market. Most mornings a guy with a barrow full of pigs’ ears would call out “Morning Rose, get em off” I just used to laugh and roll my eyes.
It wasn’t sexual harassment then, it was banter. Some women would accept it as such. If they didn’t they would sort it out themselves or get a male friend to give the offender a visit.
I think Gregg Wallace is possibly like that man, though obviously worse, he should have been dealt with.

What a surprise that financially secure celeb women in their 50s+ are the ones speaking up. The 20 odd year olds he speaks to like shit haven't yet built up the confidence. Or they've already learnt complaining leads to nothing...just like all the complaints that have been made about this odious twat until recently.

I've encountered many thousands of people in my working life and have had not one complaint about who I am, or my behaviour. 13/4000 isn't the trump card he thinks it is.

I used to live in a mining village where they didn't always leave justice up to the police and Crown Office. I suspect that Gregggggg would have been found with a few broken limbs round the back of the garages had he tried his 'patter' on local wives and mothers.

I wonder what it is about middle class women of a certain age? Hmmmmm. Is it because they finally have the "luxury/luck/privilege" of getting to a point in life where they have garnered a bit of the power and financial security that you have that they can afford to say "fuck this, I'm going to talk about this now!" and they can feel a bit more comfortable that there won't be terrible negative consequences?

The reason younger women and particularly women of colour (regardless of age) do not speak out is because it is so hard for them to have that level of power where they won't suffer consequences. Yes, Gregggg, it's not right, is it.

THIS is the reason that it is overwhelmingly this demographic that has made the formal complaints. I'd bet my life there's many more who would like to who couldn't for fear.

Hopefully they will now and have some protection.

There's a few reddit threads with plenty of people saying they've had bad experiences with him. I think it's likely because they're just 'ordinary' members of the public they either didn't feel they could complain to anyone or thought they wouldn't be listened to. The middle-aged women he's on about who reported him were more equal in terms of status. He's more or less thrown down the gauntlet and challenged
more people to come forward. His arrogance is doing him no favours, I get narcissist vibes from him, he's so entitled and thinks nothing he does should be criticised.

My adult daughter has always been ashamed of her autism diagnosis which she has had since the age of 2. Now "autism" is used as a flag to brandish when individuals are rightfully challenged re their unacceptable and repulsive behaviours.

I feel for autistic people who have to live and manage this highly complex and often distressing condition when they read about these oxygen thieves who just belittle and ridicule the diagnosis which they have no doubt bought or acquired after an online assessment from pop up "clinics".

I feel so sorry for his wife. I’d say she’s controlled to an inch of her life. She looks so sad and distant all the time. She worked helping her late Dad Max in a real grotty Chinese buffet takeaway dive. The whole family shut up shop and moved to Greggs massive country house in Kent after they got married. He stated the parents looked after the house and grounds and kept Anna company while he was away working. Anna and her mum are in a very vulnerable position now - living with a sex pest - with all the negative publicity that ensues- looking after a non verbal autistic child. I can only imagine how losing his second big contract will affect his mood, ego, pride
