it was Gaynor’s time to go but there was bias for sure. If they want art students they should recruit from that pool only (and i’ll be away).

And yes they can be very literal about the challenges - if they just wanted gore they should have outlined that. mats.

I really struggle to watch now that ghastly Sara Pascoe presents. She is so infuriatingly irritating, and never ever funny.

Kit is so insufferably smug, I'm sick of him winning everything but the calibre of the contestants is weaker each year, so he is probably the strongest overall.

Kit is very talented but I find myself rolling my eyes every time he wins a challenge. Orla’s was miles better and should have been sole garment of the week.

It was definitely Gaynor’s time to go as I felt she should have gone weeks ago but she’s so lovely and Esme’s dislike for her was really obvious this episode.

Gaynor got ripped to bits by the judges a couple of weeks ago for her "too simple" dance costume, even though it was really well-fitted and made of really challenging fabric. Kit does something simple and gets garment of the week.

I’d really like someone other than Kit to win but he is a good sewer and I think the others are all more likely to panic and mess up. I didn’t realise how young he was, when he was talking about watching GBSB since he was 12, that must make him about 23.

Also, I might have just zoned out for a moment, but I felt like they introduced the made to measure, went over to fashion historian talking at length about horror film costumes and then back to Sara Pascoe telling them they were halfway through. I didn’t feel like I saw much of the sewing at all. The history bits are quite interesting, but not enough that I want them to take away from sewing screen time, especially since , as others have mentioned, the editing already isn’t very focused on the sewing.

I also hate when others are behind and someone will loudly talk about how happy they are to have finished and that they have time to do this that and the other. There’s usually one in every season and it’s definitely Kit this time. I can see why people see him as smug.

Amber Butchart is a goddamn fright.

For someone who is allegedly a 'fashion historian' - she clearly takes no notes of reference from her work - she always looks shockingly badly put together.

Her constantly waving hands almost a panicked plea for help:

"save me save me from this ghastly velour turban, it is attempting to eat my brains!!!!"

I feel like they talked more about the different properties of fabrics in earlier series too which was interesting and more useful to people who might be inspired to start sewing. Now every challenge it's "this is difficult" and maybe a comment on fabric weight.

Like others here, I found Orla’s doll genuinely scary. She also came up with a good back story for the character.
Kit just did a simple copy of a scarecrow from Dr Who.
There is no way those two costumes were equal winners.
This is my first year watching the show, and I’m enjoying it. But it sounds like I should go back and watch the earlier series too.

I think a lot of editing goes on vis a vis someone happily speeding along and someone else having a ‘mare.

I love Amber’s look, but very much not he turbans. Her Margate sea front flat is if you like maximalist mid century (70s specifically) decorating.

I think the history bits are a mandate of the show - there used to be way more didn’t there. And also yes, I often feel I haven’t seen much actual sewing.

I don't get all the Kit hate. He is a brilliant sewer and very creative with his designs. They often show him helping other contestants figure out their patterns or help them with their stitches. You can see he is very popular with the other contestants as well. It is unfair to hate him just because he is good at sewing.

I don't agree that he looks smug either, obviously he's delighted when he wins he's put a lot of work in.

I agree that the costume was quite simple but what he did with the headgear was absolutely amazing I can't even figure out how he did it.

I would be happy if either he or Orla won.

Has Caz gone off the boil a bit? She was my favourite to win not long ago.
The judges both seemed a bit luke warm over her horror costume though it looked amazing and extremely well made. It just wasn't as fancy dress or theatrical as some.

She fecked up the pattern challenge quite badly didn’t she. I think she had a big aul wobble because of that.

I think Caz's costume was good and wouldn't have looked out of place in a film or tv show under the right lighting if the actor had been appropriately made up. That was the major issue with the task as already noted, some of the most famous character costumes they cited for the challenge are totally reliant on the make up design completing the look.
