She won’t have woken up and picked up her phone. She will have gradually been woken from her sedation, possibly even needed a tracheostomy to help. It could of taken days easily before she was strong enough to even hold her phone/read it. Our hospital is strictly no visitors unless end of life or special circumstances so I doubt she would have had visitors unless they feared the worst at a point.

I’d be surprised if she was home and not on a normal ward for at least some rehab/discharge planning. It was a long time to be ventilated for. Plus covid can cause some serious issues for our bodies even in a mild case, she won’t be how she was before no matter what she portrays online. She will be weak and sick for a while with probable long term issues with lungs or other organs.

Also as a HCP We don’t all hold the view that was written about ‘fatties’. That’s disgusting to talk about patients like that.

Imagine being put into a medically induced coma for months after having your premature baby delivered and cared for by countless staff and then thanking YOURSELF over those who saved both your lives lol. Grace is even more loathsome now than she was before.

ETA - I am fairly certain she has been awake alot longer than when she first announced it. By doing that she’s able to make it appear as though he recovery has been really quick and that is all down to her and now strong she is when in reality she’s probably begun the rehabilitation process some time ago.
Agree, there’s no way she’s just woken up and starting tweeting like that it adds to it as everyone’s like shes been in a coma for 3 months I’m guessing she’s maybe been in one a month or 2 but not 3

I thought this was fairly graceless - all about her, no mention of how much has been spent on her care, or saying she’ll put money to them or even gratitude.

so sorry to help peoples stories.

Idk I don’t even want to go in on her because she’s clearly mentally unwell still, but isn’t it worrying that she’s been commissioned to write a book on healing.

Ugh. I couldn't even fathom how awful it was that she was missing the first few weeks of her child's life - despite not having liked Grace for a very long time, every day I found myself thinking about her baby and the terrible situation they were in. I don't understand how she can have any sort of mental space for thinking about buying 'stuff' after all that's happened, let alone feel the need to tell the world that she deserves whatever she wants. There are so many things I'm having to stop myself from saying about this situation right now.

I am so sorry to everyone who has lost a loved one to Covid. Truly heartbreaking.

I agree with everyone, duck you grace. Look at poor Kate Garraways husband? He’s still so poorly! You don’t just wake up from a coma and everything is fine, how she is making up! Her and her sisters comments are insensitive.

I hope anyone who’s love ones are currently battling, that they pull through. ❤

Agreed, and again don’t want to go in because I’ve been lucky enough to spend every minute of my baby’s life with her but as cheesy as it sounds things really do change. I’ve barely bought myself anything since because I just don’t care about stuff anymore, I’m obsessed with sensory play and she’s got far too much stuff, but watching her learn brings me happiness not a new bag or a holiday 🤷🏻‍♀️ Hopefully Grace will get the chance to grow into motherhood like this but I won’t hold my breath.

Agree.

I mean, isn't that what babies are kind of meant to do? I'm not saying mum's should just put up with feeling rubbish and of course, it's exhausting, but this is literally how they grow. Also, it makes the baby seem like a little parasite or that it's just the baby that is having a negative effect on her health.

That said, I kind of take anything that Grace says with a pinch of salt. She has a history of exaggerating medical problems for attention and never gives anyone the full picture.
Wait till it grows up! Then she will really know what it means to suck the life out of you!

I got piled on earlier in the thread as I said not to trust their version of events. Deleted my account but I feel vindicated now. She's clearly been out of the coma for a while and waited until she was much better to announce she'd woken up to go with her I'm strong and invincible duck all the people that told me to lose weight. She's worse than trump. Sshe loves having this strong hero narrative.

I’ve emailed her gleam team as i’m so angry at that tweet, no doubt will not get a response or will get something crappy in return but they need to know their client is a major fool.

I’ve spent the last year working in the ICUs and HDUs of my hospital. It has been rough. Not least because of the size of many of our patients. A nurse commented in the staff room the other day about how much they’re looking forward to not having to care for so many fatties going forward.
Disgusting comment. I will never understand why people work in healthcare with an attitude like that.

My sister has had asthma all her life however, she also takes anti-psychotic medication which has led to a huge weight gain, she went from 8.5st to 18st. She went for an asthma review last year and the nurse told her her asthma would “likely disappear” if she “ate less crap” and “got back to how she used to be”, now my sister feels too embarrassed and ashamed to attend her next review, which could lead to her condition worsening. After the nurses’ comment she was considering going cold turkey to try and shift some weight, which would have left her in a dangerous position mentally.

Overweight/obese people are still human beings that require healthcare. Regardless of why they’re overweight/obese. Maybe the nurse in the staff room should consider this before making comments. And perhaps you should think about that before you post the comment online.

I actually think her tweet is so telling in terms of her psychology— like, she truly tells on herself there in a desperate attempt to assuage her ego.

In my opinion, it’s clear from her tweet that deep down, perhaps even subconsciously, she feels a shame over actually getting that sick, and to the point of being in a coma for months. This shame comes from the fact that her identity has been based on a mythology of her physical greatness, her absolute health, her defiance of popular expectation. Yet in the midst of proudly proving what a healthy and normal pregnant woman she is..... she actually becomes the opposite— she is a high risk patient, she catches COVID, and it does such damage to her that she is in the ICU in a coma and unable to be near her newborn baby, causing untold mental and physical trauma to her and her son.

So instead of reckoning with that, she has to publicly declare that in fact the whole thing was even MORE proof of how great, wondrous, defiant and, almost, healthy she truly is and always was! Getting sick isn’t the point, the point is that it is her and especially her that was able to beat the sickness, because that is who she is. The whole thing shows a girl who is desperately clinging to her identity that she needs to feel worthy, somehow. And also it reveals a problem with the HAES mentality, which is— is it okay if you’re not healthy? If you admit that you are sick... is there weakness in that?
Absolutely spot on. It won’t be lost on Grace that this whole situation does nothing for her HAES narrative - it undermines everything she has built her brand around. This is a woman who refused to acknowledge pregnancy at her size came with higher risk, scoffed at being consultant-led, and prior to pregnancy had described medical professionals as fatphobic. As much as I don’t want to follow her I am definitely interested to see how she will spin this when she does no doubt cash in on it.

“But because I’m me” OK..
I really can’t believe she said that! No one in ICU dies because of lack of determination or character. It’s a lottery and the brilliant efforts of healthcare professionals and modern medicine.

I completely agree, the attitude of that nurse does not belong in healthcare. Judgemental attitudes of healthcare staff towards groups of people creates a barrier to those people accessing healthcare, which is a complete antithesis to the aims of our profession.

Social media is just so bizarre.
If that was me I would be feeling bleeping lucky and grateful at what a near miss I had. I would be so upset at the fact I missed the first precious months of my child’s life. That I now need to build a relationship with him as he won’t know who I am. That my family and partner have been through so much worry l and upset. That I have a long battle ahead of me but thank god, i am alive.
And this is before we even get into the fact she most probably caught Covid from not taking it seriously and also spread it about when she had symptoms.
but yeah... let me update Twitter that I am going to buy tit and have people tell me I am gods chosen child. That sure seems important.

I cannot imagine thinking about what I’m going to buy or treat myself too so soon after coming out of a three month coma. Jesus. Her priorities are insane

I also want to chime in on the weight loss - as previous posters said, she’ll have lost a lot of muscle. The last thing I’d be thinking about is losing my double chin if I were her - I’d be worried about the loss of strength in my muscles, especially ones we all use a lot and never think about (the muscles controlling our bladders, for example). I bet walking will be a challenge now, too. Good luck to her with that.

She struggled to walk far BEFORE she got COVID 🤷🏼‍♀️🤭🤭
